Questions for Prologue - Chapter 3 (Cersei)

1) This book is entitled 'A Feast For Crows'. Going in to this one what do you think the significance of the title could be?

2) Any ideas as to who the alchemist was and what he'd use the key for? I was trying to rack my brain about the description and was wondering if it might be Varys or the guy who killed for Arya?

3) So the Grejoys are undecided who should rule. Anyone else think this could get interesting?

4) What did you think of the way Greyjoy died? Death by fall? Could Melisandre have had a hand in this one?

5) Anyone notice the change in houses for the Starks listed in the back of the book? Now they're listed with the other houses and aren't listed as one of the dominant ones anymore.

6) I now get the expression Damphair - Damp hair. I kept thinking of dhampir. Why? I have no idea.

7) What do you think of the drowning? At first I thought it was like baptism. I'm not thinking that anymore.

8) Did I miss something? What is a Kingsmoot? Where is a glossary when you need one?

9) First thoughts of Prince Oberyn's daughters, Obara, Nymeria, Tyene?

10) Any predictions about what will happen to Prince Doran?

14) We now know Brienne is looking for Sansa and she isn't the only one. Why do you think she left her "friends"? To get away from her competition so to speak or for another reason?

15) Do you think the rumors of Brienne killing Renly will ultimately lead to her demise?

16) Interesting only Jaime's teasing bothered Brienne. Could she perhaps have feelings for him? Could you imagine Cersei's reaction if Jaime were to pick Brienne over her. :)

17) What did you think of the mouse transition between chapters 4 & 5? Wonder why Martin did that? Is there a hidden meaning? Could it represent spies or something?

18) Samwell is hunting for information about the Others. Not much new information to be had. Just a reaffirming of what is there. Do you think that Jon should have sent Samwell away? Do you think he resents being voted to his current position? Interesting how many Stark relatives seemed to have taken the position as Wall commander.

19) Had to chuckle at the nick name "Sam the Seducer". Why do you think Gilly fled the way she did from Samwell? Why did she not like him calling her Lady?

20) Dragonsteel = Valyrian steel? Could this be a lost reason as to why a weapon forged of valyrian steel is so cherished and prized?


21) What is so awful about becoming a maester?

28) Jaime is feeling guilty for letting Tyrion get away. He feels responsible for his father's death. What do you think Cersei would do if he confessed?

29) Do you think Varys is with Tyrion? Do you think he'll show his face at the castle again?

30) Is it just me or is it a bit morbid the way they keep talking about Tywin's corpse smiling? Can we not go there? Ewww!

31) Sound like Jaime will believe what Tyrion said about Cersei sleeping around. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. He also seems to be catching on to the fact she only seeks him out when she needs something.

32) What do you think of Cersei comparing herself to her father? Didn't she used to do this with Jaime?

33) Seems like the painting of the shield is a big deal. I'm not sure why. A tree with leaves and fallings stars. Wonder what it means?

34) Seems like Brienne is on the right track to finding Sansa and finding out what happened. She now knows a third person was probably involved in spiriting her away.

35) Are you worried for Sansa? So far it doesn't seem like Littlefinger is making any more advances on her. He is sharing enough information that she could probably get him hanged for treason.

35) Who is the real man Petyr or Littlefinger?

36) Is there still hope for little Robert? What do you think of Sansa taking care of him? I'm wondering if he has epilepsy?

37) What do you think of Asha's wish to rule? Not a big surprise, but can she pull it off? Do you think she and Cersei may be spun from the same cloth?

38) Do you think Theon's truly dead? Sounded like he was a goner, but he's not the first person we've thought that of.

39. I think Cersei is truly losing it. She’s going to be Nut Bunny 2. She has lost her son and father, and essentially she has lost the twin brother she was in love with. She is completely paranoid and (rightfully) trusts no one. She keeps flashing back to Maggy the Frog who told Cersei a more beautiful and younger queen would take her place and take all she holds dear. Cersei thinks this could be Margaery, but it could also be Myrcella. I hope it is Daenerys! Do you think Lady Merryweather is telling the truth about Senelle spying for the Tyrells? We know that Tyrion didn’t poison Joff, yet Lady Merryweather testified she saw Tyrion do it. Is someone paying her or is she just out to gain Cersei’s favor? (apologies if this is a rambling post.)

40. Do you think that the Tyrells were justified in wanting Tommen and Margaery to sleep together? I think it’s odd, given there’s no way they’re going to consummate the marriage. What purpose does this serve? Merely symbolic?


41. Oh, looks like we may have a Hound sighting. It’s definitely possible that he still lives. I think Cersei is right to fear his return.

42. The end of the chapter finds Cersei linking arms with Kettleblack and gleefully watching the tower burn. Do you think she intended this as a direct insult to Jaime? Also, does she seem crazy to you or is it just me?

43. In The Soiled Knight’s Chapter there appears to be the beginning of a war between those who want Myrcella as Queen and those who want Tommen. Which child do you believe has the greater claim to the throne? I was surprised Arys let his manhood rule his brain when he agreed to stand for Myrcella. His love for Arianne appears to be genuine, but I fear she is playing him like a Stradivarius. I don’t even want to try to speculate who in Westeros will stand for Tommen and who will stand for Myrcella.

44. OK, so it took a long time to sink in that Randyll Tarly is Sam’s father. I am a little slow. After witnessing how brutal he is when dispensing his justice, I have to say it must have been very difficult for Sam growing up, and also, how could Sam be related to this guy? Perhaps his mom had a honey on the side? Hey, it could happen!

45. Brienne has proven herself capable of taking on the role of knight. Why is Tarly so against it? Do you suppose he is threatened by her?

46. I was really getting tired of Sam’s puking and Gilly’s sobbing. Finally we are told the babies were switched (way to go, Lisa Kay!!). I can completely sympathize with her now and I felt bad for being annoyed at her. So, Jon switched them so that Melisandre would not kill sacrifice Mance Raydar’s baby, but how can he condone any baby being killed sacrificed? Not sure I follow the logic in this one.

47. Any speculation on how Randyll Tarly will receive Sam, Gilly and the baby? I hope Brienne befriends them somehow. (hide spoiler)]

48. Ser Kevan doesn’t appear to know of the discord between Cersei and Jaime; do you think knowing that would make a difference to him in his attitude toward Jaime? Is there a liaison in the making there?

49. Jaime doubts Tyrion’s words about Lancel and Cersei but not about his killing King Joffrey. Is that frustrating or what?

50. Why would Bronn, now Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, have Lollys’s child named Tyrion? Was this his smartest move, considering? Does he still have some loyalty toward Tyrion, or is he just thumbing his nose at Cersei?

51. What is with having the large skull of Ser Gregor cleaned by beetles before it is presented to Prince Doran in recompense for the murders of his sister, Elia (wife of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen), her child Prince Aegon, and Prince Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper? To obscure any dissimilarity? If the leeches that were put to Ser Gregor died, why were the beetles able to eat his flesh?

52. Which Queen will Taena Merryweather ultimately side with: Cersei or Margaery? Why would Cersei let her know about her scheming with Ser Osney Kettleblack after Jamie warned her she is Margaery’s spy?

53. What was Jaime trying to tell Loras in that history lesson?

54. Where do I begin with Cersei? I guess I’ll follow Sandy’s suit, and go with more rambling questions about her: Which of her decisions will bring her downfall? Selecting Lord Qyburn for (her) small council and thinking him oh so clever? Appointing Ser Harys Swyft as (her) “hostage” Hand? Overindulging in drink, especially at small council meetings? Underestimating Jaime’s ability and making fun of him? Ignoring the “sparrows” invading King’s Landing? Thinking one High Septon will serve as well as the other? Not becoming involved in the politics of the Vale? Believing House Bolton would settle for half of the north after being promised the whole? Not paying the Iron Bank or the Faith of the Seven their due? Giving command of the royal navy to Aurane Waters, a man of questionable background and not exactly known for his fidelity? Counting on Lord Walder Frey’s death before it happens, or that his family will fight among themselves once he is gone? Believing a White Harbor alliance can be so easily achieved? Planning to assassinate Jon Snow by way of Ser Osney Kettleblack? Or ignoring the rumor of dragons?

55. You impression of Victarion? Would he have made a good king? Was he justified in beating his wife to death? Should he have thrown his support behind his niece, Asha? Can he forgive his brother, the Crow’s Eye, Euron; accept and honor him as the king to sit in the Seastone Chair?

56. What did you think of the kingsmoot? I actually liked Asha’s speech and she almost swayed me to her side. Alas, her nuncle, the Crow’s Eye, Euron, won the day. Think there will be dissention in the ranks?

Questions for Chapters 20 (Brienne) -23 (Alayne)

57. Okay, I’ll admit confusion. Why did Dick Crabb (Nimble Dick) take Brienne to Whispers, the ruined castle on Crackclaw Point, if he knew that he had conned Shagwell, Timeon and Pyg by selling them a map to that local? Wouldn’t he have expected their wrath? Or did Dick really believe Shagwell was that much of a fool – and inept to boot? He couldn’t have expected them to actually have found smugglers in a cove that hasn’t been active for over 30 years. I don’t get it.

58. Were you proud of Podrick or what? Throwing stones at Shagwell – ha! I’m glad he is with Brienne. Oh, well. Might as well not get too attached. If I like him, he won’t last too much longer.

FYI – I had to get the characters for “The Queenmaker” chapter straight and admit I consulted Wiki Ice (I inserted some clarifying info):

• Arianne Martell (eldest daughter) expected a marriage match that befit her rank as a high lord's heiress.

• Instead, her father, Prince Doran, publicly entertained suits from various elderly lords such as Lord Walder Frey and forbade more attractive matches to high-ranking heirs such as Ser Edmure Tully and Willas Tyrell (crippled eldest son and heir of Lord Mace Tyrell).

• Prince Doran's apparently humble marriage plans for her, coupled with the vague misinformation put out by him regarding her brother's location, brought Arianne to the conclusion that her father intended for her dutiful younger brother, Quentyn, to succeed him, passing over Arianne entirely.

59. The BIG questions are:

a) What will happen to Arianne now? (Assuming Areo Hotah is in her father’s employ. As captain of Doran Martell's guards, he arrested the Sand Snakes on his orders…so it stands to reason he remains his loyal servant despite any fondness he has for the "little princess" – as he affectionately calls Arianne.)

b) Who was it that told of her plans? Was he/she present at the ambush?

c) Where is Arianne younger brother, Quentyn? (Not to be confused with disgraced former maester Qyburn, in Cersei’s employ.)

d) What is the extent of injury to Princess Myrcella? Is she really Princess Myrcella or is she Rosamund?

60. What do you think of the “kindly man”? Does he have Arya’s best interests at heart? He keeps asking who she is; when is she going to ask who he is?

61. Did you think for even a second that Arya would toss Needle into the canal’s water?

62. Okay, confused again. I didn’t understand the story about the firewyrms, nor the part about “Will I be like her?” “No,” he said, “not unless you wish it. It is the poisons that have made her as you see her.” What does emptying a stone flagon into the water of the black pool have to do with anything?

63. Arya, as Cat, is now to be more than just an acolyte. Will she learn not only how to detect lies, but change her face while in the House of Black and White in Braavos? Will she have to take poisons to do so? Pretty handy skills, those. Whatever will she do with them?

FYI – Something that stumped me – and I had a heck of a time finding it on Wiki Ice – is who is Bronze Yohn (the one who asked Alayne/Sansa “Do I know you, girl?”)? Besides being one of the signatories of the Lords Declarant he is:

• Lord Yohn Royce, better known as Bronze Yohn.

• Lord of Runestone and head of House Royce. He is sworn to House Arryn.

• He has a set of bronze armor, thousands of years old, that is inscribed with runes that ward him from harm.

• He has three sons, Andar, Robar and Waymar, all knights.

• He came north with his son, Waymar, when his son joined the Night's Watch.

• He was defeated by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen at the Tourney at Harrenhal.

• He stayed in King's Landing, participating in a boar hunt with the king, a boar hunt which killed Robert I.

64. What is going to happen when “Alayne” runs out of hair dye?

FYI – Pertinent facts on Ser Lyn Corbray from Wiki Ice:

• He was one of Lady Lysa Tully’s suitors; he also stayed with her at the Eyrie for half a year after Jon's death.

• Ser Lyn offered himself as a champion for Lady Lysa on Tyrion Lannister's trial by battle, stating that he was the surest sword there.

• He is notoriously not interested in women.

65. "Gold and boys and promises…" Just what are Littlefinger's “promises”? Does this mean Littlefinger might swing both ways – if it benefits his plans? Or, since House Corbray of Heart’s Home is a noble – if poor – house did he conspire with Littlefinger mainly for gold? (hide spoiler)]

66) Margaery is definitely having fun with Cersei. Do you think Cersei is going do lose it soon?

67) If Cerei's daughter ends up scarred from her injury to the face, do you think she'll treat her differently?

68) I think the Iron Bank will retaliate in some way, but I don't know how. Anyone else thing so?

69) I also think Cersei is going down. Soon. Do you think Martin's done almost all he could with her?

70) Cersei practically confessed that Robert isn't her sons father when she said jousting was in Tommen's father's blood.

74) Interesting how when we looked at Jaime's thoughts we ended up liking him. This is not the case with Cersei. What do you think would be a fitting demise for Cersei? Do you think Tommen will survive till the end of the series? The end of the book?

76) Thoughts on Ser Hyle? I can't figure out if he likes Brienne or not. Could that whole contest have been a ruse to see if she liked men at all? Boost his ego because she turned him down or does he just like playing with her?

77) Do you believe the Hound survived? I don't. If it's not him who could be masquerading as him?

78) Do you think that Arya's wolf is amassing a force for her? Why have the two been separated for so long?

80. Why is Maester Aemon so adamant about knowing more about the dragons? Is this just senile curiosity? Or does he know or seek something more?

81. When she first spoke up, did you suspect (or hope) “the girl” – Cat – outside the Cattery brothel was Arya?

82. Dareon! Another singer who is less than admirable. Were you more surprised he gave up the Black or that Samwell hit him? What will be his fate now?

83. Eek! All I could think of when Samwell landed in that icky canal water was in that poison the Waif had been pouring in there. You?

84. Xhondo, from the Summer Islands, saved Samwell and knows of dragons. Do you think his information will be correct? Yea or nay, what will Maester Aemon do with it?

85. Okay, Jaime is pretty angry with Cersei and appears to become more and more disgusted with her, but he still lusts after her. Will that lust ever fade?

86. What do you think of Jaime’s practicing his sword wielding with Ser Ilyn? It doesn’t sound as if they have any leather guards on them. I keep thinking Jaime could lose his other hand. Or am I mistaken? Think Jaime will ever become as proficient?

FYI – Okay, I went back to Wiki Ice to look up Tyrek Lannister (no wonder I could only vaguely remember him; the “mob” incident was in A Clash of Kings):

a) Tyrek is a squire alongside his cousin Lancel Lannister to King Robert Baratheon (thus, he may have information – re: his activities & death – that is vital to Varys).

b) Tyrek is married to Lady Ermesande Hayford, (a baby – thus Tyrek’s nickname of “Wet Nurse” – & she’s the last of her line, House Hayford).

c) Driven by hunger, a mob attacked a royal party that had gone to the harbor to bid safe journey to Princess Myrcella. In the riot a number of men were killed. Tyrek went missing and is presumed dead.

d) As Commander of the Goldcloaks, Addam Marbrand (Jaime’s childhood friend – who is with him now) was charged with locating Tyrek or his body, with no luck.

87. Was Varys the mastermind of the riot? Is Tyrek now his captor or co-conspirator? Or was he languishing somewhere forgotten?

88. Ser Bonifer Hasty (who once sided with King Renly & then King Stannis, but was forgiven by King Joffery) is now Castellan of Harrenhal. What do you think of him? The pendulum has swung the other way it seems, as he is pretty pious; are the people there any better off? What will Petyr Baelish do about it, or will he even care?

FYI – Ser Ronnet Connington, also known as Red Ronnet, is the Knight of Griffin's Roost (he once sided with King Renly & King Stannis – and was captured in Blackwater, after which he bent his knee to King Joffrey). He has the duel honor of once being betrothed to Brienne and unhorsed by her.

89. Were you surprised that Jaime took offence at his comments and punched Red Ronnet? For a man who wouldn’t call Brienne by her name, he sure changed his tune. Are his feelings running deeper for her than he will admit, or is it just admiration? (hide spoiler)]

Interesting information about Septons. From wiki ice:
The High Septon is the head of the Faith of the Seven. While historically, the High Septon ruled from the Starry Sept in Oldtown, with the coming of Aegon Targaryen, the High Septon at the time threw his support behind Aegon and eventually relocated to the new capital of King's Landing.

The selection of a new High Septon is traditionally in the hands of the Most Devout but the will of past Targaryen Kings has often influenced their choice. Baelor the Blessed had a stoneworker and an eight-year old boy chosen for the office. A new High Septon extends the practice of septons giving up their family names by renouncing any kind of individual name. This leads to trouble distinguishing between various past holders of the office, as one can only refer to them by descriptions such as "the fat one" or the "one before the fat one."

90) Thoughts on the high Septon? Does he strike you as not quite right in the head or crazy like a fox?

91) Someone's sister jailed for being to beautiful? Did anyone wonder if Cersei would be next?

92) When will Martin stop punishing us with more Cersei? These are my least favorite chapters. We get she doesn't like Tyrion. Geesh!

93) What did you think of the High Septon saying he'd bless Tommen?

94) Cersei's uncovered some of the pieces of Jeoffry's death, but has parts wrong. What do you think she'll do?

95)"Your Grace laughs so prettily." Lady Margaery gave her a quizzical smile. "Might we share the jest?"
"You will," the queen said. "I promise you , you will." - Is this a threat?

96) So Euron wants to wed Dany. Thoughts?

103) We know Cersei probably does lover her brother in the only way she could, that being after herself.
Showing she has no concept of the word.

104) We found out a bit about Robert's and Cersei's marriage, but not exactly what he did to her. It's just hinted at. I think this is a first for Martin. He's usually quite quick about giving details.

105) Lancel seems to have lost it. What do you think of his confessing his sins to the Septon?

Heck I'm reading and reading and reading thinking when is this prologue going to end. I come to find out that I just finished chapter 5 and read 123 pages. Darn guess that's enough for today. The ebook just keeps plugging along and it's hard to tell where you're at. I didn't print out the questions so I don't have chapter titles to keep me in line.

1) This book is entitled 'A Feast For Crows'. Going in to this one what do you think the significance of the title could be?
Since the Black are called "crows", I assume the Wall and Stannis Baratheon is going to be at the center of this one.

2) Any ideas as to who the alchemist was and what he'd use the key for? I was trying to rack my brain about the description and was wondering if it might be Varys or the guy who killed for Arya?
Ummm interesting idea. I myself had no clue but someone definitely wants in the Citadel. Why is a mystery.

3) So the Grejoys are undecided who should rule. Anyone else think this could get interesting?
It's definitely going to involve some fighting. the sister (can't think of her name) and Theon (if he's still alive) are going to fight as are the two uncles (can't remember their names either). Oh and let's not forget the Drowned God either. That nutjob is going to play a role too. As will the Sand sisters. Yup definitely going to be interesting.

4) What did you think of the way Greyjoy died? Death by fall? Could Melisandre have had a hand in this one?
Definitely not a natural death. Someone had a hand in it. But who or why? no idea.

5) Anyone notice the change in houses for the Starks listed in the back of the book? Now they're listed with the other houses and aren't listed as one of the dominant ones anymore.
I have the ebook version and didn't notice this but it's not surprising since everyone thinks they are all dead.

6) I now get the expression Damphair - Damp hair. I kept thinking of dhampir. Why? I have no idea.
I thought the same thing and with the whole zombie Catelyn thing it was even possible. Damp hair makes more sense in this context.

7) What do you think of the drowning? At first I thought it was like baptism. I'm not thinking that anymore.
Nope I'm thinking this is how zombies are made. What was the name of that guy who couldn't be killed. He must have gone through something like this.

8) Did I miss something? What is a Kingsmoot? Where is a glossary when you need one?
No idea what that means other than the people get to choose instead of primogeniture (the oldest).

9) First thoughts of Prince Oberyn's daughters, Obara, Nymeria, Tyene?
A couple of scary women who are really pissed at the Lannisters.

10) Any predictions about what will happen to Prince Doran?
Once he locks the ladies up, someone will get to him. After all he can't defend himself at all.

11) Anyone think the Lannisters will start dwindling in numbers in this book?
Yup. Everyone seems to have it in for them. Someone will succeed. Maybe more than one group.

12) Thoughts on Cersei and the way she treated Jaime?
Shameful but not surprising as she is totally disgusted with him being crippled. He'll turn on her too. I think he's sweet on Brienne.

13) Do you think Tyrion is long gone?

14) We now know Brienne is looking for Sansa and she isn't the only one. Why do you think she left her "friends"? To get away from her competition so to speak or for another reason?
Maybe the reaction of the people at the inn gave her the heebeejeebees.

15) Do you think the rumors of Brienne killing Renly will ultimately lead to her demise?
It's possible because not everyone is going to believe her story. Especially since something supernatural had to have happened and no one believes in that.

16) Interesting only Jaime's teasing bothered Brienne. Could she perhaps have feelings for him? Could you imagine Cersei's reaction if Jaime were to pick Brienne over her. :)
It wouldn't surprise me if Jamie picks Brienne over Cersei. After all, Cersei is treating him like a leper and is a false person. Brienne is very honest and that is rather appealing after being lied to for years.

17) What did you think of the mouse transition between chapters 4 & 5? Wonder why Martin did that? Is there a hidden meaning? Could it represent spies or something?
It must mean something and eyes on them makes sense.

18) Samwell is hunting for information about the Others. Not much new information to be had. Just a reaffirming of what is there. Do you think that Jon should have sent Samwell away? Do you think he resents being voted to his current position? Interesting how many Stark relatives seemed to have taken the position as Wall commander.
Well Winterfell is very close to the Wall so having someone you could trust there was extra protection. Jon definitely didn't want to be commander but the alternatives sucked so I think this is better for him and the Black as he doesn't have any nefarious plans. Sending Samwell away makes sense but to be a Maester takes years and years. How is Samwell going to be able to help Jon?

19) Had to chuckle at the nick name "Sam the Seducer". Why do you think Gilly fled the way she did from Samwell? Why did she not like him calling her Lady?
I think Jon had just told her that he was sending her away. Now she has to pretend to be a lady at Samwell's family home. She's a wild child so that is probably very scary.

20) Dragonsteel = Valyrian steel? Could this be a lost reason as to why a weapon forged of valyrian steel is so cherished and prized?
Makes sense.

21) What is so awful about becoming a maester?
They are servants and looked down upon by everyone.


22) What the heck?????? Why is everything associated with R'hllor so Creepy???? What were your thoughts on the city Arya is in? Why do they not like her being a Stark?
I have no idea about the Stark thing. And yes but creepy isn't even the word for it. I wonder how Arya knew? As far as I remember she's had no interaction with anyone from the R'hllor sect.

23) Funeral was pretty uneventful. Thoughts on poor Lancel? Do you think her uncle knows about the affair?
I must have forgotten something. Why is Lancel so drawn and old? Not sure but Kevan certainly knows about Tommen's parentage.

24) Shocker!!! Ser Kevan was a surprise. Did you see his ultimatum coming?
No. He always seems so mild mannered.

25) I don't think it's right to marry Margaret to Tommen.
I can see a betrothal but not a marriage at his age. Who would want to marry a woman who's buried two potential husbands. Shouldn't she be seen as cursed?

26) What did you think of Lady Merryweather, the only person who supposedly impressed Cersei?
She didn't make any impression on me at all. I can't even remember who she is.

27) What did you think of Cersei's reaction to Lolly naming her child after Tywin?
Appropriate. Why would anyone think it honorable to name a bastard (from rape no less) after Tywin?

Jamie isn't stupid and he was gone for a long time. He has to know that Cersei likes sex and it's unlikely that she's abstained.

32) What do you think of Cersei comparing herself to her father? Didn't she used to do this with Jaime?
Cersei has a rather high opinion of herself. Someone needs to knock her down a peg or two.

I think it was a family that died. Treason maybe?

I don't think Petyr's going to do anything to Sansa but she's certainly in a tight spot with no apparent way out.

Definitely Littlefinger - he's a lying, scheming creep.

36) Is there still hope for little Robert? What do you think of Sansa taking care of him? I'm wondering if he has epilepsy?
No. I'm sure he is going to have a fatal accident though I'm not sure who is going to be behind it. I think Sansa is being unbelievably sweet. She's finally showing some humanity. It definitely sounds like epilepsy.

37) What do you think of Asha's wish to rule? Not a big surprise, but can she pull it off? Do you think she and Cersei may be spun from the same cloth?
I think she'd be the best of the lot. In Martin's world she might be able to pull it off. And no I don't think she's anything like Cersei. Cersei is ruthless and brutal and I haven't seen that from Asha...yet.

38) Do you think Theon's truly dead? Sounded like he was a goner, but he's not the first person we've thought that of.
No. there was nothing that indicated Theon died at Winterfell. As a matter of fact, didn't he flee after events. If so, he could be anywhere. (hide spoiler)]

39. I think Cersei is truly losing it. She’s going to be Nut Bunny 2. She has lost her son and father, and essentially she has lost the twin brother she was in love with. She is completely paranoid and (rightfully) trusts no one. She keeps flashing back to Maggy the Frog who told Cersei a more beautiful and younger queen would take her place and take all she holds dear. Cersei thinks this could be Margaery, but it could also be Myrcella. I hope it is Daenerys! Do you think Lady Merryweather is telling the truth about Senelle spying for the Tyrells? We know that Tyrion didn’t poison Joff, yet Lady Merryweather testified she saw Tyrion do it. Is someone paying her or is she just out to gain Cersei’s favor? (apologies if this is a rambling post.)
I don't see any reason for Lady Merryweather to lie. Though she did lie about Tyrion so who really knows her end game.

40. Do you think that the Tyrells were justified in wanting Tommen and Margaery to sleep together? I think it’s odd, given there’s no way they’re going to consummate the marriage. What purpose does this serve? Merely symbolic?
No clue. But if not for consummation, what's the point unless they are planning some kind of trickery.

41. Oh, looks like we may have a Hound sighting. It’s definitely possible that he still lives. I think Cersei is right to fear his return.
Absolutely. The Lannister's did him wrong and he's not one to let it slide.

42. The end of the chapter finds Cersei linking arms with Kettleblack and gleefully watching the tower burn. Do you think she intended this as a direct insult to Jaime? Also, does she seem crazy to you or is it just me?
Oh she's definitely lost it. She doesn't really need to slight Jamie as she's pretty much told him she's done with him.

43. In The Soiled Knight’s Chapter there appears to be the beginning of a war between those who want Myrcella as Queen and those who want Tommen. Which child do you believe has the greater claim to the throne? I was surprised Arys let his manhood rule his brain when he agreed to stand for Myrcella. His love for Arianne appears to be genuine, but I fear she is playing him like a Stradivarius. I don’t even want to try to speculate who in Westeros will stand for Tommen and who will stand for Myrcella.
If Myrcella is older then by rights she should be the heir. But if only men can rule, then Tommen should be king. I agree that Arianne is playing Ayrs though I can't figure out what she's up to.

44. OK, so it took a long time to sink in that Randyll Tarly is Sam’s father. I am a little slow. After witnessing how brutal he is when dispensing his justice, I have to say it must have been very difficult for Sam growing up, and also, how could Sam be related to this guy? Perhaps his mom had a honey on the side? Hey, it could happen!
I caught on that this was Samwell's family. I agree that justice is brutal here.

45. Brienne has proven herself capable of taking on the role of knight. Why is Tarly so against it? Do you suppose he is threatened by her?
Not sure but why would he be threatened?

46. I was really getting tired of Sam’s puking and Gilly’s sobbing. Finally we are told the babies were switched (way to go, Lisa Kay!!). I can completely sympathize with her now and I felt bad for being annoyed at her. So, Jon switched them so that Melisandre would not kill sacrifice Mance Raydar’s baby, but how can he condone any baby being killed sacrificed? Not sure I follow the logic in this one.
The switch makes sense but really what's the difference which babe is sacrificed?

47. Any speculation on how Randyll Tarly will receive Sam, Gilly and the baby? I hope Brienne befriends them somehow.

I certainly don't see anything even remotely romantic between Kevan and Cersei. Kevan wants to rule and Cersei is in his way. I see them trying to kill each other not getting it on.

49. Jaime doubts Tyrion’s words about Lancel and Cersei but not about his killing King Joffrey. Is that frustrating or what?
I would think that Jamie knows Cersei better than that. And Tyrion too come to think of it.

50. Why would Bronn, now Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, have Lollys’s child named Tyrion? Was this his smartest move, considering? Does he still have some loyalty toward Tyrion, or is he just thumbing his nose at Cersei?
Loyalty to Tyrion would be my guess. And no it's not real smart to name your kid Tyrion right now.

What is with having the large skull of Ser Gregor cleaned by beetles before it is presented to Prince Doran in recompense for the murders of his sister, Elia (wife of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen), her child Prince Aegon, and Prince Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper? To obscure any dissimilarity? If the leeches that were put to Ser Gregor died, why were the beetles able to eat his flesh?
To remove the flesh so it doesn't stink? But I agree how will they prove it's Gregor?

52. Which Queen will Taena Merryweather ultimately side with: Cersei or Margaery? Why would Cersei let her know about her scheming with Ser Osney Kettleblack after Jamie warned her she is Margaery’s spy?
I don't think Cersei wants them to actually sleep together just get caught in a compromising position so Osney can be sent to the wall to spy.

Wouldn’t he have expected their wrath? Or did Dick really believe Shagwell was that much of a fool – and inept to boot? He couldn’t have expected them to actually have found smugglers in a cove that hasn’t been active for over 30 years. I don’t get it.
Me neither. It just doesn't make sense. Also he said the fool had two girls with him. It's kinda hard to mistake two sellswords for two girls so what was the point? To get Brienne out of Tarly's sight?

58. Were you proud of Podrick or what? Throwing stones at Shagwell – ha! I’m glad he is with Brienne. Oh, well. Might as well not get too attached. If I like him, he won’t last too much longer.
Podrick was great. He's a nothing character so he should be safe enough. What would be the advantage of killing him off to leave Brienne alone? Like it matters to her.

FYI – I had to get the characters for “The Queenmaker” chapter straight and admit I consulted Wiki Ice (I inserted some clarifying info):

• Arianne Martell (eldest daughter) expected a marriage match that befit her rank as a high lord's heiress.

• Instead, her father, Prince Doran, publicly entertained suits from various elderly lords such as Lord Walder Frey and forbade more attractive matches to high-ranking heirs such as Ser Edmure Tully and Willas Tyrell (crippled eldest son and heir of Lord Mace Tyrell).

• Prince Doran's apparently humble marriage plans for her, coupled with the vague misinformation put out by him regarding her brother's location, brought Arianne to the conclusion that her father intended for her dutiful younger brother, Quentyn, to succeed him, passing over Arianne entirely.

My guess is that she will be imprisoned with the Sand Snakes.

Hmmm interesting thought. No idea though. Arys was totally whipped and wasn't thinking bad things about Arianne so maybe he actually brought Myrcella. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

60. What do you think of the “kindly man”? Does he have Arya’s best interests at heart? He keeps asking who she is; when is she going to ask who he is?
Don't they train assassins there? Why does Arya stay? I get she has no place else to go but why would she join the evil cult - R'hllor?

No. She prizes it too much. I thought it would be the one thing to change her mind from this destructive path. I really don't like where Arya is headed.

FYI – Something that stumped me – and I had a heck of a time finding it on Wiki Ice – is who is Bronze Yohn (the one who asked Alayne/Sansa “Do I know you, girl?”)? Besides being one of the signatories of the Lords Declarant he is:

• Lord Yohn Royce, better known as Bronze Yohn.

• Lord of Runestone and head of House Royce. He is sworn to House Arryn.

• He has a set of bronze armor, thousands of years old, that is inscribed with runes that ward him from harm.

• He has three sons, Andar, Robar and Waymar, all knights.

• He came north with his son, Waymar, when his son joined the Night's Watch.

• He was defeated by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen at the Tourney at Harrenhal.

• He stayed in King's Landing, participating in a boar hunt with the king, a boar hunt which killed Robert I.

64. What is going to happen when “Alayne” runs out of hair dye?
She'll find another way to maintain the fiction unless of course she is already caught by that time.

Absolutely. Those guys aren't milksops and they want their money. It sounds like Robert was jerking them around for a while. I doubt they are going to allow a "woman" to do it as well.

I think GRRM has tortured his readers long enough. With Tommen being so forceful and wanting to rule and Margaery's influence (must have been the plan all along), seems like maybe the Tyrell's want to rule. But then again, at this point, who doesn't fancy the title of King!

Maybe he saw the writing on the wall or just didn't want Tywin to have greater influence or power than he already had.

I think someone will kill him but not the Tyrell's because they need him alive. Martin is making noise of taking out all the Lannister's so Tommen will be collateral damage at some point.

Cersei has been nuts for a while - more paranoid than ever. If Tyrion meant to drive her crazy, he couldn't have done a better job. She sees his evil genius in everything.

Well we know he's not with Arya but that doesn't mean he died. Arya left him because she hated him. He could have survived but I don't think the crimes attributed to him are his. He was brutal but not serial killer crazy. I just don't see him doing this.

I couldn't believe it when Samwell attacked him. Good for him! I was also surprised that Dareon gave up the Black and for a whore no less.

FYI – Okay, I went back to Wiki Ice to look up Tyrek Lannister (no wonder I could only vaguely remember him; the “mob” incident was in A Clash of Kings):

a) Tyrek is a squire alongside his cousin Lancel Lannister to King Robert Baratheon (thus, he may have information – re: his activities & death – that is vital to Varys).

b) Tyrek is married to Lady Ermesande Hayford, (a baby – thus Tyrek’s nickname of “Wet Nurse” – & she’s the last of her line, House Hayford).

c) Driven by hunger, a mob attacked a royal party that had gone to the harbor to bid safe journey to Princess Myrcella. In the riot a number of men were killed. Tyrek went missing and is presumed dead.

d) As Commander of the Goldcloaks, Addam Marbrand (Jaime’s childhood friend – who is with him now) was charged with locating Tyrek or his body, with no luck.

87. Was Varys the mastermind of the riot? Is Tyrek now his captor or co-conspirator? Or was he languishing somewhere forgotten?
Given your facts, it would seem to reason. I would think captor not co-conspirator though as Varys would need something from Tyrek not the other way around. Besides could Varys really trust Tyrek?

88. Ser Bonifer Hasty (who once sided with King Renly & then King Stannis, but was forgiven by King Joffery) is now Castellan of Harrenhal. What do you think of him? The pendulum has swung the other way it seems, as he is pretty pious; are the people there any better off? What will Petyr Baelish do about it, or will he even care?
His name is appropriate. He changes allegiance more than his small clothes. I don't trust him at all. I doubt the people will be better off because 100 people isn't exactly well defended in this time of war and outlaws. I don't think Petyr will do anything about Harrenhal until he is evicted from the Eyrie.

FYI – Ser Ronnet Connington, also known as Red Ronnet, is the Knight of Griffin's Roost (he once sided with King Renly & King Stannis – and was captured in Blackwater, after which he bent his knee to King Joffrey). He has the duel honor of once being betrothed to Brienne and unhorsed by her.

I think Jamie as Cersei has wounded him much more than Tyrion. Jamie is faced with her deeds daily and is really pissed. Who knows how Tyrion is doing.

Well I finally finished this book of horrors. It was beyond boring but at least now I can move onto A Dance With Dragons. At the end of the book GRRM says he was writing and writing and realized the story was too large for one book so he decided it was best to have a lot on a few characters instead of a little on all characters. Definitely the wrong move. I wonder how many readers he lost with this book?

Yup. I'm finding I like Jamie more and more.

138. Jaime offered Edmure in exchange for Lady Sybelle Westerling and her 3 daughters. I thought that was a pretty good deal!
It was but I wasn't surprised the Blackfish refused. He can't use his own kin as a hostage.

It must be as nothing else could frighten Edmure to that extent.

My guess is natural causes.

143. I am losing track of what is real and what is fabricated in the characters’ minds. When Pycelle tells Cersei that Margaery was asking for Moon Tea, this is proof that Margaery is doing the deed with someone other than her (too young for doing the deed) husband. Now, did Pycelle make it up to appease Cersei, or is it really true? Cersei had been pushing one of the Kettleblacks to sleep with the young Queen, did it finally happen when Loras went away? Or could she be sleeping with someone else? Or was she really sleeping with her brother? Maybe she was asking for it to intentionally cause suspicion, but that would be a very dangerous game to play, no?
I don't trust Pyrcelle at all. He probably just made it up. Or maybe that stuff reduces cramps like birth control pills. haha

144. Did I miss something? Why is the singer accused? Were his confessions true or torture-created? How about that torture scene? **shudders**
Definitely torture induced. It's what Cersei wanted to hear and she even made him change the story to fit her plans. All made up.

145. I don’t trust Lady Merryweather. I think she’s up to something, perhaps plotting with her husband? He seemed mighty uncomfortable at that dinner.
Something has been up with Lady Merryweather from the start. She's one of Margaery's relatives so I can't see her really going to the dark side.

No. Cersei is a slut who always wants it. She just doesn't want it now but she'll acquiesce in order to get her way. I wouldn't be surprised if Osney turns on her in the end. The wall indeed! What kind of inducement is that? (hide spoiler)]

147) Wow! What a revelation. Arianne was to be Dany's siter-in-law. No doubt as to whose side that group is on. I can't help wondering why they agree to marry Myrcella into the family in the first place? Is this one of those keep your enemies close things?
Hmmm interesting foresight. Marrying Myrcella wasn't THEIR aim, that was Tyrion's deal.

Poor girl. She has never hurt anyone. Lannister's keep getting maimed - who's next?

Dorne may still be hers but she still has no husband or prospects. I'm not convinced on the Ayrs thing either. She felt bad that she got him killed but I don't get the love vibe from her thoughts.

Could Quentyn be in disguise? I wonder if he's the guy who caught Dany's attention? I can't remember his name but one of the three warlords - the one that slew the other two and brought Dany their heads.

Spectacular if he succeeds. I don't understand his gain though.

I think Littlefinger is going to kill him and yes probably with poison. These are seriously treacherous people and times. Shit you can't trust anyone not even family.

I think Sansa will try to prevent Littlefinger from killing Robert. I do think she loves him---as a brother not a potential lover.

If she's as intelligent as Littlefinger says then maybe, as Sansa has never been the brightest bulb and Myranda could easily trip her up. SO far Myranda doesn't seem suspicious but you never know. GRRM is treacherous too! (hide spoiler)]

Not exactly. Sam's supposed to take her to his mother. If all is safe she'll stay otherwise he's going to see if the Islanders will protect her.

Interesting that the Citadel doesn't want the dragon's back. WTH do they want?
