He lives in solitude beneath the city, an exile from a world that will destroy him if he is ever seen.

She dwells in seclusion, a fugitive from enemies who will do her harm if she is ever found.

But the bond between them runs deeper than the tragedies that have scarred their lives. Something more than chance - and nothing less than destiny - has brought them together in a world whose hour of reckoning is fast approaching.

In Innocence, #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz blends mystery, suspense, and acute insight into the human soul in a masterfully told tale that will resonate with readers forever.

Jen (reader44ever) | 283 comments The first two lines seem like romantic suspense is an element but I notice that RS is not mentioned in the "In Innocence..." line. Either way, with or without the romantic suspense element, it sounds interesting to me, though. I'll have to remember to ask my library to buy it once October rolls around. (I think the rule is that purchase suggestions can be made no earlier than three-months prior to publication.)

Doesn't every book written by Dean Koontz? :-) Unfortunately, a few of them turn out not to be as Awesome as they sounded...Your Heart, Breathless etc. come to mind see the following thread of disappointments: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Breathless wasn't terrible, just not well thought through. A real ending would have been nice. As to YHBTM- I know some people who absolutely adore it, while I'm wishing I could un-read it. To each his own, I guess. An author as prolific as Koontz is entitled to a few missteps.

:-) I agree. However, after reading Your Heart Belongs to Me, I was upset with Dean for six full months :-)

.... but I already promised myself that I would give Your Heart another chance when it gets chosen as a group read. Maybe my perception of this novel has changed since I first read it :-) Maybe I will not be angry at Dean this time. Maybe I will actually find some meaning in the words. Maybe it will make me laugh or maybe I can have a fun time making fun of Your Heart. Maybe if I don't read the edition with the creepy girl with her nose in a flower and instead read the creepy edition that is all red and has a weird slash across the front, that will make all the difference.

At any rate, I plan to re-read Your Heart Belongs to Me at some point, giving it a second chance, and hoping for the best possible experience.

Holly | 71 comments Good luck with that Dustin. I hope that you're able to look at it differently whenever you read it again. :-)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments Well I am planning to reread it at some time in the future also. Dustin, maybe you need not to look for it to mean something. If you are looking for the meaning you may not find it.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments I loved Breathless, I know one of few... but I did. But when I reviewed it on Amazon, I got a really negative reaction for liking it.

I don't want to read a meaningless book :-(

We are nicer on Goodreads :-) I don't review on Amazon anymore because of the negativity. However Amazon now owns Goodreads so I'm hoping it will remain friendly and retain a fun atmosphere.

A Note From Dean on July 25, 2013:

Dear Readers,

I want to thank all of my readers for their loyalty, superb taste, high intelligence, profound wisdom, kind-hearted nature, fabulous sense of humor, and cutting-edge style. I need to thank you as well for your offers to dog-sit Anna, to assault writers perceived to be my competition (I'm working on a list), to do a David Copperfield on certain film producers and make them "disappear."

Thank you for offering to let me ghostwrite the true story of your grandfather's [grandmother's, father's, mother's, weird uncle's] experiences (1) being abducted multiple times by space aliens with proctological intentions and cold six-finger hands, (2) being trapped in an elevator for nine hours with a bag full of delicious deli food but also with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his megaphone, (3) being the diligent and proud collector of hundreds of strange vegetables that highly resemble famous musicians (or parts of their anatomy) in the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame.

Many thanks to one generous reader for his offer to share half of a 60-million-dollar Nigerian fortune in return for just all my personal financial information, $63,212 that he needed for legal fees to collect his inheritance, and a box of Three Musketeers to eat while counting the money that he soon will be sending to me.

And most of all, thank you for making DEEPLY ODD a bestseller.

I hope your summer is going well, with a lot of laughter and romance and leisure and good food and good reading. I've had a wonderful time with hayfever, two outbreaks of hives, and the human equivalent of dry rot in wood. I'm happy to say that I was able to survive an attack of killer bees by throwing my sweet and fragrant Slurpee all over a 90-year-old woman in a walker, thus redirecting their furious attention to her. (With my usual and often remarked-upon generosity, I plan to share with her ten percent of that 30 million when it arrives from Nigeria.)

Meanwhile, I have finished work on a novel titled INNOCENCE, which arrives in stores on December 10, 2013, and it is one of my personal favorites of my books, scary and mysterious, with some twists I doubt that you'll expect. May the rest of the summer bring you good times, much joy, and a Nigerian heir even richer than the one it's been my good fortune to assist.

Dean

You're Welcome :-) This came to people who are signed up at www.deankoontz.com for updates. Some Koontzlanders might have gotten it but wanted to share for those who didn't.

The release date for Innocence was previously scheduled for January so this is nice that the new book will be available in time for Christmas.

Jim C (avsfaninboston) | 161 comments I am glad the release date is before Christmas. I know someone will give it to me as a present and usu. the DC book is my favorite present of that Christmas.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments Yes, I was thinking it the date had been moved up. Smart move for Christmas presents. Can I guess that a lot of Koontzlanders will be adding this to their wishlists?

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6121 comments Mod
I don't celebrate Christmas because I think it's silly. I will likely buy the damn book for myself though.

Well, you're just gonna have to wait...until December.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments And then the final Odd book comes out ... does anyone know when? I thought I heard around February.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6121 comments Mod
I haven't heard word of a Saint Odd Release Date yet.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments And then ... maybe hopefully the next Christopher Snow book.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments Well if DK can write fiction ... I can think fictitious thoughts about his books. Seriously he did say he was writing book 3 but that was supposed to have been out ages ago.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of us could get our hands on some advance copies of Innocence so we didn't have to wait? I mean, we are such devoted Koontz addicts, I don't think we should have to wait until December like normal people.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments Yes, I agree. Dean should treat this group with lots of TLC because we love his books so much.
