Josh's brown eyes stared up at the ceiling above him, the beeping of the hospital monitors keeping him awake. His leg was sore as hell, and he felt sick. So sick, he was pale as a sheet, brown hair clinging to his forehead with a cold sweat. He was running a fever, but it was declining slowly but surely.
Lena strides in not even checking with the nurse if it is ok to go inside. Lena opens the door slowly to Josh's room.
At the sound, Josh lolled his head to the side to see who it was. He attempted a smile when he saw her, and blinked lazily. "Hey."
"Hey." Lena says quietly so that she wont hurt him if he has a headache or somethin'. Lena walks over to a chair next to his bed and sits down. "Your dad does not know." Lena says hoping that he will not be mad.
Josh breathed a scoff and turned to look out the window instead. "His son was mauled by a wolf and had been in the hospital for twenty-four hours, yet he doesn't care enough to check up. Some dad." He coughed weakly.
"Hey, be thankful some one cares." Lena smiles at him warmly. Lena lifts her hand to grab Josh's but stops and puts her hand back down. She sighs quietly so Josh won't hear her.
Josh nodded, and a shadow of smile crossed his face. "Yeah, thanks." He swallowed and looked over at her. "All I need is one person, really."
"Yes that all you need. Your dad is a dick and I'm epicly nice. Who do you pick?" Lena asks nicely. Lena smiles at his shadowy smile.
"You." He answered without hesitation. He was quiet for a moment. "Look, about... About last night... I'm sorry. I kind of freaked out on you."
"It is Ok." Lena sighs. That night is plastered in her head. Lena twiddles her thumbs bored not knowing what to do. Lena turns on the TV.
The TV shows Josh, and says "This child might be a werewolf cause we took some of his blood and it shows part wolf." the news person says
Lena gasps
Lena gasps
Josh blinked at her. "No." He said flatly, although his blank expression made it seem otherwise.
Josh frowned, reading her smile. "I'm not..." He trailed off and finished in a sigh, looking back out the window, just wanting to go outside. "I'm just sick."
Lena puts her hands up in the air. "Ok geez! I will let you rest now." Lena growls slightly and leaves, a little angry.
((should we skip to when he is healed?))
((should we skip to when he is healed?))
((Sure.))
Josh walked out of the hospital, nothing but a light bandage taped onto his leg. He began to walk home, even though it was across town.

He limped home, and, not noticing Lena, started up the walk - certain his dad would murder him once he was inside.
Lena hops out not noticing Josh, and opens the hood. Lena walks into her shed to grabs a few wrenches, and walks back out. She starts to crank on a few nuts.
His ears, now much more sensitive, heard her tinkering away and Josh turned to look at her. "Hey," He half-waved, a hesitant smile on his face.
Josh peered over at the engine, comprehending nothing. "I uh, I have to go deal with my dad..." He murmered, swallowing nervously just at the thought. "If I start... You know, screaming, promise you'll come help me out?" He gave her a half hearted (and half joking) smile.
"Yes i will." Lena says sternly and hands him a microphone so that she can hear what is going on. Lena puts her earpiecein.
Josh frowned, but only slightly. "I was kinda..." Bt then he shrugged it off and nodded, putting the microphone into his jean pocket. "Kay. Wish me l-luck." He cleared his throat again. That stutter seemed to be plaguing him after the hospital, and it was only getting worse. He started back to his house.
Josh paused before walking into his house, giving Lena one last look before walking inside. "Dad?"
The warm afternoon light spilled in through the bay windows that had yet to be curtained. Josh liked them open, it made everything brighter, everything seem used and welcoming. Knowing his father, however, the room would darken as soon as possible - as if it meant life or death.
Silence answered Joshua's call for a long moment, giving him enough bravery to step further into the room, stepping over boxes and leaving small prints in the light dust of age left to wear the floors of past integrity. The wood creaked slightly, but Josh's eyes were up, scanning past the glowing specks caught in the yellow light, searching for something much less welcoming. His father. Josh silently vowed, he wouldn't call Lena in on this one. He felt weak enough as it was, his confidence being at rock bottom. He didn't want her to end up coming to rescue him from his own dad. That just seemed a little ridiculous. I mean, his father wouldn't hurt him.
"Joshua."
Josh froze on the spot, the merciless voice sending chills of apprehension crawling up his skin. Well, his father wouldn't kill him, anyway.

Josh turned slowly, limping on his bad leg to meet the cold grey eyes of his father's harsh form in the doorway. "Where have you been?" He took a deep breath.
Then winter's spring will come, and wipe away the cold. Clearing the slate and freshening the mind, just to burden it with a new determination. Give me freedom, or I will take it.
Josh put his hands into the pockets of his sweater, still filthy from his attack. There was blood on his jeans, and his black runners were untied. "I w-was out. Sorry I d-didn't c-call." He hid a frown at the sudden stutter. He had never stuttered before.
And suddenly you've changed, different than before. You said you wanted to leave, hide away where no one could see you. Now you have it, and there's no going back. You're different than before.
His father stepped closer, the sunlight finally lighting his face so he wasn't a thing of shadows. He seemed perfectly reasonable, although his jaw was set firmly, eyes cold as ever. Josh didn't know how to take it. Then his father's fist clenched and he realized this was just the calm before the storm.

Lena senses that Josh is nerves. Lena slowly inches toward Josh's house. Lena's wolf ears grow and they start to twitch picking up little noises like a mouse's heart beat a mile away.
"Why are you bleeding?"
Josh glanced down at his blood stained jeans. "Oh, uh, I was uhm... Dog attacked me." He answered, half truthful. "It's not bleeding anymore. I went to the hospital." There was a sudden quiet between the two, somehow heavier than before. This was a turning point. "You were in the hospital and you didn't phone?" His father sounded like he asked for a reason other than care. Josh hardened slightly, not feeling like takinging any crap today. "I was semi conscious, dad. I tried ph-phoning you on my way home, but it was busy."
"So you walked like that all the way home?" His father's voice reduced to a growl. Josh blinked. "Damn it, Joshua! We have a reputation to keep up! What do you think people would have thought, seeing the new neighbor's child limping around covered in blood?! All across town!" Josh burned. He could have said anything like a concerned father, but no. It had to be this. It wasn't the first time this had happened.
You're breaking, falling, wasting away. No one cares. Silently screaming, no one hears.
"Dad, listen. I'm half drugged, I'm home now, and it was not my fault I got attacked, so stop being m-mad at me. Maybe you're just neglective." The words slipped out like acid, and Josh half turned to leave, but was suddenly held in place by a stony grip. His father yanked him closer, much closer. So close, Josh could finally smell the alcohol on his breath. "You're not leaving."
Fighting shadow with shadow, struggling to see the light. You're both drowning, dragging eachother down. It wasn't always this way.

Lena bursts with anger as she opens their door and slams it shut. "IM HOME!" Lena yells on the top of her lungs.
The slamming door seemed to send physical shudders through the old house, but his father's grip didn't loosen. In fact, he didn't even look away. Josh twisted in his grip, jerking his arm away from him. "Don't - " But then his father grabbed his son by the throat with both hands, lifting so his feet were barely touching the ground. Josh gasped and glupped, struggling to pry the rock hard fingers from around his throat.
"Hey dick head!" Lena smiles evilly holding to pistols. "Put the retard down." Lena has a fake sheriffs badge on. "Or I will be forced to." Lena glances at her guns.
Retard? Josh looked past his dad, then squeezed his eyes shut hard as he tried one last time to loosen himself. However, he was still under the influence of the hospital drugs, even if only slightly. He was weaker from the wounds than anyone could have guessed, and the sudden lack of oxygen made him feel about to pass out. How did she have guns? WHY did she have guns?!
His father swooned and dropped Josh harshly onto the floor, where the boy rolled over, reeling. "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" He roared, fists clenching into sledge hammers. Joshua's father was a big man...

Lena swings the two guns around her fingers and puts in the holsters. "I was just doing my job sir." Lena says in a manly voice, and turns, and sashays out the door then opens it again. "IM HOME AGAIN!" Lena yells just for shits and giggles.
A fleeting moment of finality, the unsung hero of the day, disappearing into the veil of the future leaves you alone, and lets the door swing wide...
Josh writhed on the floor, a sudden and very new pain burning inside him. He felt suffocated all of a sudden, stiff and caught in his own skin. It was an awful feeling, and he shivered in the sudden shadows of the room as the sun began to set. He couldn't move.
His father began to advance on Lena, although his footsteps were slow and deliberate, kin to a drunken soul. "Get out." His voice was lowered to a menacing tone.

All light left the room and the sudden darkness left a festering fear that was very, very, new. Josh went to say something, anything, but nothing came out anymore. He hunched up in the corner of the room, twisting and jerking every which way in a fit of traumatized health. His throat changed, and when he spoke, all that escaped him was an animal-like whimper.
That was when his dad promptly passed out, smashing into the uncovered sofa and flopping down onto the wooden floor completely comatose.

Josh was past his shakes and just slumped against the wall, breathing with difficulty. As Lena came closer, he looked up at her and just stared, his hands cramping into paw-like shapes. Help.
"Take deep breathes if you can." Lena says as she crouches next to him and looks outside. He is a night werewolf!
