Arctic I was wondering if any of you could recommend a book on social change and activism specifically in New Zealand. I'm traveling there and want to read up.

Didn't want to make this entire thread NZ specific though, so if you know of other good reads that fit within the topic, please post as well!

Arctic I traveled to South Africa awhile back and found it very helpful to read up on apartheid and other related social/historical issues before heading over. Definitely made me a more mindful traveler I think, as well as making my trip that much more interesting.

Some of the books I read included:

A Dry White Season
The Power of One
Kaffir Boy
Cry the Beloved Country

Vivek (vivek_k) Nelson Mandela's autobiography Long Walk to Freedom is excellent for South Africa

Maleka | 4 comments Books by Albert Wendt might be a good introduction to understanding some of the cultural climate of New Zealand and the Pacific islands.
