For a lot of people, this is a hard decision, but I was just curious as to what the majority of people would choose.

ya know i just cant say, i mean i wud say the infernal devices, cuz im hooked on the series currently, but i was also hooked to mortal instruments when i read it... but ya i think i like Will more than did Jace.
That is such a difficult question. I like Tessa better than Clary. I love Simon. I love Will AND Jace. The Clave is stupid in all of the books! The fight scenes are much more intense in TMI. I do like the Victorian Era tho. The problems in TMI have much more of an effect on the world than just London. I love Isabelle too. Cecily is just like her, but she wasn't in the books enough for me to like her as much as I like Isabelle.
I don't really know... There are a lot of good things about both of them! The bonds between the characters in TID are so much stronger. I really love the parabatai bond between Will and Jem, is so much stronger than between Jace and Alec. So I love the characters more in TID I think, but it wasn't until Clockwork Princess i realized how good TID is, and I loved TMI from the very beginning. And TID is so much more well-written than TMI too. In TMI I like all the little twists and turns in the plot and also how Jace and Clary struggle with their relationship and Jace trying to understand himself and so on. But it's impossible for me to pick a favorite right now, I just love both series so much!
Though I love both series, there are just certain aspects of TID that I love more. I love the relationship that Will, Tessa, and Jem have. Granted, I got frustrated with them in this series, I would definitely pick TID over TMI. Also, I like the setting more.
I LOVED TMI and I was really hesitant about getting into TID because I didn't want to be disappointed, but it ended up being so much better than I expected. So I gotta say TID for sure.
TID for me. Sometimes TMI bore me but TID never did. But I guess it's only a matter of opinion and I maybe bias because I love the characters of TID more.
TID anyday, not even any hesitation. as long as she doesnt ruin it like she did TMI by dragging it out...
I liked TID better than TMI (and its awesome because I've read the five books of TMI first).. I feel like i'm in a rollercoaster of emotions while reading TMI. It's easy to love the characters. And the love triangle, (though i'd rather call it a love circle) it's interesting..
I can't say maybe because it targets a different point and TMI is more action, and I love action and crazy twists so I say TMI. TID is also great though it had been a short and painful trip to the end. :)
I say TID before reading The Clockwork Princess I might have said TMI, but after that I book I just have to go with TID
I love the TMI series and when I started to read Clockwork Angel I was't sure if I liked it as much as TMI but now that I've finished reading Clockwork Angel as well as the other two books, I must say that I prefer TID to TMI. I love how unconditional love was the main theme of the books. The characters are amazing, the relationships between ALL of the characters are intense and amazing and the story, well, damn, I loved it.
Regarding overall plot and character development, definitely TID. But I would never have loved the TID characters as much as I would have if I hadn't read TMI so we basically come back to square one.
TID for Tim-Burton-y-ness and no incest plots (even fake-out ones.) Although I'm hoping TDA or the mysterious TLH get even better.
Well for me I like TID better. Because of Will. Becuase of the love triangle. Because of the love the two parabatai's(will-jem) had for each other, which is a better portrayal of parabatai than Jace and Alec. And I like Tessa better than Clary. Really
Infernal Devices. Tessa. Will. Jem. I was able to connect and care about all three characters. Plus, their toys were way cooler. I love Steampunk.
TMI I just like the character Isabelle and who cannot like Jace. Will and Jem are both pretty awesome. But let's not forget about Simon and Alec. I read TMI first and then I read TID. So for me it was TMI..
I prefer TID over TMI because of the intricate plot, and the amazing characters and relationships between them.
Before I started reading TID, I was absolutely sure that TMI would be my all time favorite book series, and that I could never love a series more than I did with this one. But then I read CA and CP...It's impossible for me to choose, TMI has a great balance between action and love, but TID makes me cry all the time! I'm waiting until CP2 releases in my country and see if I can make up my mind, which I doubt.

TID no question. They are top of my favourite books list of all time as its such a beautiful story. I love the characters, their relationships, Victorian England. They have everything action, suspense, a love triangle, bonds of friendship & family, scenes that make you laugh & gut wrenching moments that make you cry hysterically & the perfect ending.
Cassie Clare has you falling in love with all the characters for all sorts of reasons making it difficult to choose favourites.
I found TMI frustrating at times but mainly due to the amount of focus on Jace & Clary's relationship & was left wanting more on the other characters, although I've not been a big fan of TMI until I read book 5 but I am now - it blew me away, it had everything I've been wanting & more.
I feel Cassandra Clare's writing has flourished with every book & I love the world of shadow hunters :)

And because I was so frustrated, my best friend read the summary of the book online and told me that there's so much more to the story that I don't know and it'll me make me cry. My relief can't be described!

aw too bad you got spoiled! But I agree with your best friend, there's SO much more and the writing is amazing in this one! CP2 is the best one in the series, according to me. Hopefully, and probably, you'll love it a lot too!

But please, keep telling me there's more to the story I don't know, it makes me feel so much better!
SO HARD! That's like choosing between unicorns and zombies! but TID, 'cause you know, you can't just not choose TID! :)
This is a really hard choice because I LOVE both TMI & TID so much, but I guess TID edges out TMI by a hair.
I absolutely think the infernal devices is best, I really like the setting and the characters better , but i have only read city of bones and is currently reading clockwork princess so... who knows maybe i will change my opinion, but i don't think i will.
Personally, I love The Infernal Devices more than The Mortal Instruments. I read the first three of TMI, but I couldn't continue with the series. I started reading TID out of boredom and I fell in love with it immediately after. Maybe it has something to do with it being in a different era, a different way to dress, speak, and live. *shrugs*
TID was a lot better. I love the relationship between Tess, Will, and Jem. And I like Tessa better than Clary, although Clary redeems herself a little in City of Lost Souls. And I like Cecily better than Isabelle, and Jem better than Alec (mostly because I will always like, Jem/Tess/Will over anyone else) and Jace was just a stereotypical bad boy, because he was sweet to Clary but also annoyingly possessive when he thought she was his sister and he gets on my nerves at time. WIll, on the other hand, is inherently good and a wonderful person and has very good reasons for distancing himself to protect the people he loves. ANd he was sweet and hilarious and badass even when he thought he was cursed. And he cared about Jem enough to put him above himself. WIll is probably one of the best characters I will ever find. And Charlotte was so admirable and I felt Tessa, WIll, and Jem's affection for her. And Henry was adorably clueless. And Gideon, Gabriel, Sophie, and Cecily all had a purpose and were wonderful, not just props for the main trio. Jessamine's character was wonderful, too. And Mortmain might not have been as complex a villain as Valentine, but the other unique, amazing characters made up for it. And of course, Magnus was Magnus and I got more insight into Camille. THe closeness of the people living in the Institute was obvious and I felt it, unlike in TMI. I could gush about these characters all day...And I just love the Victorian Era.
So, The Infernal Devices all the way!
I like The Mortal Instruments better than The Infernal Devices. I haven't yet read Clockwork Princess so my decision isn't final! And just for the record, Clockwork Prince has left me shattered. :( *literally crying*
Wait, nevermind i hated that series, because it was SO predictable!!! And TID was much more captivating.
I liked TMI a lot until Cassandra Clare dragged the dang thing out so long. At this moment, I haven't read Clockwork Princess, and everyone is saying that's the book that got them hooked on TID. Eh...right now it's hard for me to decide whether or not I like TID. William bugs the heck out of me, for reasons I can't state due to spoilers.
So right now, I have to say I like TMI more than TID.
Without hestitation- TID. Maybe I like the Victorian era or I just like escaping the modern books. This series just goes to show that quality goes over quantity. If TID had more books it would drag on and become less great. Thankfully it didn't follow like TMI
Both are cool .. but TID was AMAZING AWESOME the BEST thing i've EVER read so far >> extreme but totally true for me xD
I prefer TMI, but I think that's because when I tried to read TID there was also a lot of buzz for The Host, and I was so excited to read it that I wasn't really paying that much attention to TID... I think I'd definitely love to reread the series to see which one I like better!
I thought this would be a hard question for me to answer..but no. TID. TID forever! Not that TMI isn't amazing because it is...but Something about The Infernal Devices just got to me, crawled inside and will live there forever!! It is PERFECTION!
For me, it was TID, I guess it seemed more grownup than the sometimes juvenile TMI. Tessa and Will felt older than clary and jace. I enjoyed both series, but TID was the best!

It did somehow feel older....When a comment is made about them being 16 & 17 I was shocked, I completely they were so young!
