I am a little concerned about the series. With the writers strike who knows when HBO will finally air it. Same thing is going on with another book series HBO picked up that I am excited about, "A song of ice and fire". HBO picked it up but it is in a stall right now. All the articles I have found on both series are old, no recent news.

I think it will be allright. I don't know if you ever visit Charlaine's website, but she posts on her discussion board now and then, and it looks like it's really a "go". They're going to more-or-less follow book 1 for the first season, and likely follow up with the rest of the books.

It sounds like HBO is very committed to this. It will air eventually, and it will be GREAT!
