Meg MacDonald | 1 comments Hullo (again, if this posts twice...had me a little hiccup there the first time I tried to post), I'm Meg and I'm new here, too. I'm not as active on Goodreads as I would like to be due to Real Life demands (and the vast and confusing nature of this place), but I've already found some neat books by other Indie authors that I might not have found otherwise. I'm eager to connect with authors and readers alike.

I've been a writer for years, sold a handful of short stories, and edited a semi-pro SFF zine "back in the day." My debut fantasy novel, Oath Sworn, came out in December and is doing nicely. It is the first book in a planned trilogy which itself is part of a larger body of work that should keep me busy for years to come. So many places left to explore and so many characters with stories to tell. What more could an author hope for?

"A character-driven, coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of a second-world gaslamp fantasy, OATH SWORN takes the reader deep into a lavishly crafted world where cultures and ideologies clash, jewelers 'Tune' crystal swords, skyships sail above tidal extremes, and the soul-touched--like young Lian Kynsei--inspire both awe and fear."

You can find it here (I think): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

I have an author page as well and there's a neato book trailer over on Amazon that I don't think is here yet. I should do something about that. :)

Your cover artwork is gorgeous and it looks like you write well from the first few paragraphs I read. Hopefully you'll find a way to connect with more readers and get those reviews you need.

Ross Eberle | 10 comments Greetings, fellow authors and readers!

My name is Ross, and I am a 5-time self-published indie author of 5 novels, going on 6. It is known as the Sky Fighters Novella Series! It is a coming-of-age epic saga, which follows the travels of two teenage boys, who help re-introduce the Sky Fighters. They do this with the help of a friendly, intelligent male alien leader, who enlists the help of the Earthlings after the nemesis of these aliens, the Python Demons attacks Earth to try and take it over or destroy it outright.

Along the way, the two young men make new friends, train in battle, and encounter said Python Demons a number of times. I'm an established indie author of another genre, but got caught up by a different kind story in my head a few months ago which expanded to a trilogy of stories. The first released on Monday, and the second and third are only weeks away. These novellas are fantasy with a sub-trope of time travel.

message 314: by Jack (last edited Jul 23, 2019 05:36AM) (new)

Jack Knapp | 1 comments I'm Jack, author of (mostly) hard sci-fi that occasionally drifts into space opera. I've got 16 novels on Amazon (published as Jack L Knapp) in three series and some are available as audiobooks and paperbacks. I'm working on a couple of new novels and from time to time, I add a paperback edition and the narrator I'm currently working with is adding to the audio editions.
I'd love any help you can give to get more reviews and advertising my books would be great too.
Series: the Wizards Series isn't about wizards. Imagine that! The characters are espers who attempt to lead normal lives but keep getting dragged into situations where only they can help ordinary people.
Darwin's World is a series that begins as survivalism, morphs into something far more, and ends as space opera. One warning; each novel ends with a twist. Don't imagine that you understand the series until you've read them all!
The New Frontiers Series blends hard-SF and space opera. It has elements of coming-of-age, economics, politics, first contact, military, dastardly pirates, hints of s-e-x (it's part of the story; I don't write porn, mommy or other, or even erotica), and more actual futuristic engineering than you can shake a caliper at!

message 315: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimwedlock) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Kim, author of fantasy series, The Devoted Trilogy (The Zi'veyn, The Sah'niir [out August 1st] and the third TBA).
I'm pretty new to Goodreads groups and forums, but I'm tired of feeling like I'm on my own out here so I'm looking to be brave and connect with other writers, and find readers (because I haven't the foggiest how to market D:)

I'm also looking for more fantasy books to read, so I'll be lurking!

message 316: by L.E. (new)

L.E. Parr (leparr) | 10 comments Hi Kim,
Trust me, you are not alone! I've been self-publishing for a few years now and I still trip my way through marketing. I try everything but mostly I promote through Amazon and Bookbubs. The bad news, it's tricky. The good new is that my books have never crashed in four years of being out there. I sell enough to keep pushing forward because there are people out there who like what I do. I do have a Facebook page and a website and I connect with readers on both. Marketing is very time consuming but I think it needs to be a regular part of an indy author's work week!

message 317: by Case (new)

Case Lane | 2 comments I'm Case Lane, the author of the Life Online series of speculative sci-fi future tech thrillers set sometime in the next century.

In the Life Online series, the near future is about the clash between our dependency on technology and our own humanity (can we preserve it?). The world runs on The Network - the global cybersecurity infrastructure that connects all digital devices, especially surveillance cameras and sensors.

We have traded privacy for security and convenience (sound familiar?) Some people love it because the technology has meant order and peace, others hate it because of the intrusion into our daily lives.

But as each book reveals - the real issue may be that we no longer understand it. Has the technology moved beyond us? Each book can be read independently. I have been e-book self-publishing up until now and will soon put together the materials for print release also. If you check out my pages, you'll see I also write other books.

Here's my Goodreads author page: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Amazon author page: https://www.amazon.com/Case-Lane/e/B0...

You can get the series prequel 'The Origin Point' for free at all the ebookstores. Looking forward to communicating with this group.

Terri Kraemer | 2 comments Heya all.

I've been writing on and off since I was little in the 90s, and only a couple weeks ago published for the first time on Amazon. It is a Sci-Fi novel entitled "Elysium Shining." I don't normally write this genre, or in its outer space setting, because I typically write in Fantasy.

I have an Amazon promotion going from August 1st to the 4th, but any additional help I can get would be most gracious and appreciated.

Good to meet you all, thank you, and happy reading and writing. =D

Omayra (omyvelez) Hello,

I am Omayra Velez. I write High fantasy, and I am adding horror in my fantasy stories. Thus far, I have published three books in my series The Assembly of Thirteen series. The series is outlined with six books and book four is almost halfway written. Currently, book one of my new series The Vanquishers of Alhambra, Calixta, is in the Copyediting stage with a publication date in late this year. And the outline for the second book in this series is complete, and the first draft is done. I am populating a minimum of two blog entries per week on my website and slowly building a following. I took the themes of Power And Corruption vs. courage and heroism and merged them to form a story where I show a story of an event through the eyes of several characters that must find each other for the event to happen. The theme of my Calixta series is “nature” versus “nurture,” and I explore the age-old adage of evil as a person being born evil, taught or predisposed. However, it has a twist in that the evil person gets a chance to keep going back and continue to work on getting things better. I write for adults, and I pull no punches.

Trevor Williams (trevorwrites) | 1 comments Hi Everyone!

I am Trevor B. Williams, writer of science fiction. I've had a fascination with both sci-fi and fantasy since I was able to read, with shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation fueling the fire that now is too large to be snuffed out.

That fire finally produced my first novel: Eternal Shadow . A preorder campaign for it began today (Kindle ebook; Paperback Limited Preorder Edition). The novel officially releases November 4th!

ETERNAL SHADOW is the first in a series which explores the lives of three individuals after, in 2014, Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus are destroyed by an alien ship of unimaginable size. However, focusing less on the threat to Earth, ETERNAL SHADOW examines humanity and how they cope with first contact and the existential crisis which is forced upon them.

I sincerely hope to learn more about all of you in the days and weeks to come. As you know, marketing is endless and carving out time to connect with others in the same boat can be easily deprioritized. Hopefully I'll be able to connect with others around here so we can exchange self-publishing tips and, of course, exchange books!

Dylan Frendo (goodreadscomdylan_frendo_rw) | 1 comments I am Dylan Frendo, writer of fantasy fiction and author of a series attempting to deeply explain the concept and role of magic spells as is used in the series.

I too am new to the open waters of marketing and advertising decisions needed to launch the first novel. Still an absolute self-publisher, I hope to reach an audience interested in the special ideas I have to offer (currently through amazon).

The books currently availible on e-books are Leray World, Dawn of a Sage Part 1, and Dawn of a Sage Part 2 (in that chronolgical order). There will be plenty more of the same series to come in development.

Bonus content for character descriptions, special terminology, and general map data for the concept will be linked in my Face Book account (search Dylan Frendo), (with email link = Exscr_R787Link@Safe-mail.net).

suprihmbe suprihmbe (thotscholar) | 1 comments I'm suprihmbe (sooh-preem-bay), and I am about to publish a fantasy serial that centers Hoodoo and Black American culture. I'm looking for ways to promote that don't involve me personally being on social media (I've been dealing with cyberbullying for 3 years) so I decided to branch out and join more groups. It's hard but I'm trying to figure out the best ways to promote without a presence. Here's a rough draft of my serial description:

"Babylon, the most powerful child of the Omni-Luckey clan in generations, is coming home to Cairo, an all-black Hoodoo town unlike many others. Danjah, one of her guardians, and Zion, her biological parent, must figure out why her birth parent left Cairo, and the role a mysterious synthetic drug called "black dog" played in her untimely death. The conjureman who gave her the drug disappeared the day after she died, leaving them nothing to go on-- except what's in Minnie's leopard print coat.

Samson, Babylon's play brother, is also returning home to Cairo, seemingly to follow Babylon. But for him, it's more than that: he has to find a young woman he saw in his dreams when he was a little boy. Samson and this woman are connected by a tenuous string of dreams-- Samson is a dreamwalker, and the woman is a clair. By different methods, both have insight into several different worlds, and one of them might have some of the answers to Babylon, Zion, and Danjah's questions.

Founded by Aunt Memory Sweetwater, the Greatest to Ever Tell It, Cairo is hidden from most of the rest of the USian population by a trick. Laid by a group of hoodoos, with Memory as their leader, the people of Cairo created the luckiest hand of all lucky hands by speaking to the land and leveraging the Law of Majority--one that Doctah White intends to break with a few tricks of his own. Babylon has to figure out what's what in Cairo--and what isn't--before it's too late."

Joel Reeves (httpsangrybenbookswordpresscom) | 2 comments I'm Joel Reeves. My collection of horror short stories, Odd Birds, was just released by Scantic Books and is now available on Amazon Kindle, with the paperback edition soon to follow. These tales are in the Twilight Zone tradition, so if you enjoyed either Rod Serling's original series or one of its more recent incarnations, this just might be a fun collection to check out.

"Get ready to be transported beyond your wildest dreams … and worst nightmares. Discover strangers and their strange pastimes, things that lurk in shadow and darkness, screams cut short, and madness and melancholy, in these twisted tales—and tales with twists."

Jesse Page | 2 comments The Darkest Night
I am Jesse R. Page. The Darkest Night has been a dream given wrriten form. It is a novel that touches military sci-fi, mystery, suspense and thriller genres. It is about an interstellar war that has resulted in a stalemate between the technically superior Gillians (the heroes if you will) and the significantly inferior Shie (the baddies) who are led by a brilliant warlord named Sali-Mandu.

The only chance at breaking the stalemate is by an alliance with a third civilization, a forgotten human colony of a collapsed empire of myth and legend. The protagonist, Zackery Chaplain, a lieutenant and a historian is tasked to assist in the mission... but Sali-Mandu has had time to prepare.

I am self-published, but in the market for an editor/lit. agent if they're interested in an already published novel (which is also my first).

Grady Brown | 13 comments My name is Grady P. Brown. I am an author who is diagnosed with high functioning autism. I am a connoisseur of the science fiction, fantasy, and superhero genres. In addition, I am an autism ambassador, hoping to demonstrate the potential benefits one can gain from being autistic. As a writer, I utilize my autism to visualize the story taking place inside my head like a movie. Also, I have a very strong memory, allowing me to store information about my characters and stories in my brain as though it were a computer hard-drive. I am also a passionate pit bull lover and own a pair of sweet and loving pit bull named Wally and Fitch, who I affectionately call "The Boo Bears".

I should warn you that even though I have been a member of GoodReads for three years, I am still trying to learn the ins and outs of the whole process. If I make mistakes that are frowned upon, I deeply apologize in advance.

I am self-published and I thoroughly enjoy writing stories, building worlds, and creating characters. So far, I have written and published three superhero books, two fantasy novels, and one giant monster novella. I also have a new space opera book on the way that is undergoing editing. Finally, I am currently working my fourth superhero book. Whoo! I have been super busy!

J.C. Gemmell (jcgemmell) | 1 comments Hello everyone!

My name is J.C. Gemmell, and I’m extremely proud to share my first novel, Tionsphere, with you all today.

I began work in 2014, and it has been through several drafts (and sat on the shelf) several times. It will be followed up by a second novel, Uprisers, in early 2021.

I have been fascinated by population growth for many years, and these books represent my thoughts as to how we might adapt to a continued exponential rise in people; but fundamentally, this is a story about people living in an overcrowded, distracted by their technology and threatened by a life without it.

I’d be delighted to answer any questions about Tionsphere and welcome your comments.

Best regards, JC.

Cady Hammer (cadyhammer) | 3 comments Nice to meet you too, Daniel. My book follows the story of a young mortal woman, Grace Richardson, whose only concerns are providing for her family, playing her violin, and spending as much time as possible with her brother, Leo. When Leo goes into service in the Fae’s world as a mercenary, she expects him to return with the honor that he deserves. When Leo suddenly dies in an unspecified accident, not a word, medal, or penny comes down from the higher-ups. Suspecting foul play, Grace disguises herself as a Fae and sneaks into the Upper Realm to get some answers. She anticipates being in way over her head, but the Fae soldier who discovers her true identity only a day in? Not so much. Now Grace is forced to drag Aiden along as she tries to work out exactly how and why her brother died. Along the way, she has no choice but to confront her prejudices against the Fae as she attempts to sort out the difference between the honest and the dishonest. Political conspiracies, demon realm escapades, and family secrets will all lead Grace to the answers she’s looking for… and some that she isn’t. It was a really fun story to write, and I hope that readers will enjoy it.

I have just published my first novel and although it is hard to be genre specific I have always thought of it as a dark fantasy/comedy with a touch of the macabre. I hope this satisfies the groupd criteria.

John Edward Handfoth | 1 comments First post. Hi, my name is John Handforth. I've taught ESL in Indonesia and Cambodia, been a musician, world traveller, and had any number of crappy jobs. I did make a living writing for 10 yrs, doing infomercials, industrial video, but mostly animation scripts until an economic downturn ended the production houses I wrote for. Currently I have 4 novels in print, a fantasy trilogy Niles Dreamer, comprising of Tripping Over Time, A Halo of Vultures, & Truesight. I've had little North American response, but am slowly gaining a following in Europe. I also co-wrote the fantasy The Janitors of Shadowland which has received good response to the few who have read it. All are on Amazon in ebook and print. Like many, my biggest issue is lack of promotion. I have faith in my work, but getting readers feels at times, like I'm recruiting people one at a time. I'm interested in getting all my work into audiobooks and while I'd love to get a pro actor and pro production I may do it myself, money being the issue. If anyone is interested, the ebook version of A Halo of Vultures can currently be downloaded free from Amazon until Friday 24 July, midnight Pacific time. Feel free to ask me anything you like. Sean Paquet | 4 comments Hi everyone! My name is Sean Michael Paquet. I am a new author on Goodreads. My novel titled A Game of Gods was published back in June of 2020. I write science fiction / fantasy. My work explores conspiracy theories, heathenism, metaphysics and spirituality. My world and backstory revolve around alien beings of cosmic power, lost colonies and civilizations, and most of all it explored second chances. I hope to collaborate with all of you in the future. Blessed be the Balance!
