Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Tomorrow (Mar 23rd) starts the second readathon of 2013! The official start time is 10 AM Pacific time, but you can start earlier or later based on your preference or your geographical location. (Posting this earlier than usual because I may not be around tomorrow morning.)

Use this thread to post your reading updates, the food you are eating, pictures of where you are reading, or to get a break from the reading you are doing. :)

Most importantly, have fun!

If you are more the 24 hour reading type, or you would like to do it as well, you can choose any day within the next 7 days to do the readathon. Fire away!

Katie Gianelli (katie094) | 58 comments I may get a slow start because I will be packing and moving this weekend but I'm hoping I will get this done:

In Progress
Fifty Shades of Grey
The Picture of Dorian Gray

Start and Finish
City of Ashes
Old Yeller
The Da Vinci Code

Day 1
Fifty Shades of Grey
Made Progress: 55 pages

Thoughts for the of day: I spent the majority of the day moving furniture and doing homework so I only had about an hour of "me" time. I'm hoping I will have more tomorrow

Books Read: 0
Pages Read: 55

Day 2
Fifty Shades of Grey
Made Progress: 53 pages

Thoughts for the day I'm hoping that I will be able to find time to read this week. It seems read-a-thons are always scheduled on my busiest weeks. Maybe Friday I will catch up a lot.

Books Read: 0
Pages Read: 108

Nadine | 252 comments My goal is to finish as many of my "currently reading books" as possible.
They are: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward Dubliners by James Joyce Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Day 1:
Lover Reborn 202 pages (book finished)
Water for Elephants 218 pages (book finished)
Dubliners 25 pages
445 pages

My first day was pretty successful as I was able to finish two books. Next up is
Onyx but I stopped at 14 % so there is a big chunk left to read. Another problem: My edition of "The Night Circus" is hiding!! It must have felt neglected and decided to make it a bit harder for me to continue...

Anne | 274 comments I had the attention span of a gnat yesterday and didn't get much reading done. That is very disappointing since that is the one day during the readathon I don't have to work. Oh well. I'll try to squeeze in as much reading as I can this week.

Nancy H | 561 comments I finished Death, Taxes, and Peach Sangria (Death and Taxes, #4) by Diane Kelly yesterday on Day 3, and it was a great read. Unfortunately my overall total, and especially day 2, is just sad, sad, sad for me during a Read-a-thon! Must be all the company I have and all the fun I'm having hanging out with them because not much else can keep me away from books - lol!

Here's my progress (or lack of, I should say!):
Day 1 - 104p.
Day 2 - 50 pages
Day 3 - 153p.- finished Death, Taxes, and Peach Sangria

Total pages: 307

Not stellar results so far, but I knew I wouldn't be breaking any records this time. My daughter is home for spring break AND I'm a huge college basketball fan (March Madness!)

I really must try to do better today. It looks like some great books are being read this week! I loved "The Inheritance of Loss" and "Water for Elephants". I also remember liking "The God of Small Things", although I read it several years ago.

Nadine, how did you like "Dubliners"? I own it, but haven't read it yet.

Nadine | 252 comments @ Ann A: Oh I loved it. It was my remedy to cure my Ulysses hangover (it was a love/ hate thing between that one and me... tough book but great too, after I had finished it I needed a lighter drug to come off the addiction).
A few years ago I had read a few of the stories out of "context", just as short stories, and found them ok, but not great. But Dubliners as a whole I really liked a lot. There is so much atmosphere in the stories, and you get a quite "round" image of different sorts of people in Dublin in the beginning of the 20th century.

I liked it - it wasn't as good as the early ones, but it (at least for me) was better than a lot of the more recent ones - not as many lessors - but much more on Assail and Band of Bastards

Good to know you liked Ulysses, Nadine. I plan to also get to that one eventually. The only Joyce I've read was a few pages of "Finnegan's Wake", and I felt that could be the book that defeats me if I ever seriously attempt it!
