I think violent crimes would occur with or without violent games, because the decision to commit the crime is independent.

But, I think a violent movie/game CAN influence the method a violent criminal chooses. This doesn't increase its occurrence, but can make people associate a crime with a particular novel, game or movie. For example, if someone booby trapped a victim a'la SAW, then everyone would know that influenced how that criminal decided to commit the violent crime.

But hey, I'm no mental health expert.
