Malaysian author Tan Twan Eng won this year’s Man Asian Literary Prize for his novel “The Garden of Evening Mists.”

Mr. Tan, the first Malaysian national to win the $30,000 prize, beat contenders from Pakistan (Musharraf Ali Farooqi, “Between Clay and Dust”); Japan (Hiromi Kawakami, “The Briefcase”); India (Jeet Thayil, “Narcopolis”); and Turkey (Nobel winner Orhan Pamuk, “The Silent House”).
The Man Asian prize, launched in 2007, is awarded annually to an Asian writer for a novel, either in English or translated into English, published in the previous calendar year. Mr. Tan is only the second person to have won the prize for a novel originally composed in English.

I read this book last year and enjoyed it (in fact I also enjoyed the author's debut book - The Gift of Rain)
