can anyone please suggest a good horror book to read?

Ghost Story by Peter Straub
The Terror by Dan Simmons
The Darkest Day of the Year by Dean Koontz

I would recommend The Exorcist, Legion, Dracula, Frankenstein, Interview with the Vampire, anything by Poe and H.P. Lovecraft (although some these might qualify as Sci Fi), The Woman in Black, The Haunting of Hill House.

Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin; The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson; The Portal by Christopher Allen Poe; Those Across the River to name a few.

"Good" is so subjective... Anyway, here is some suggestions (in no particular order) you can't get wrong:

I Am Legend
The Haunting of Hill House
The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
Salem's Lot

The Girl in a Swing by Richard Adams

Tell us how you define, 'good'..
