My school is doing a Pennies for Patients fundraiser/donation thing. We bring in money to donate to kids with blood cancers.
It's also a contest to see which team and homeroom can collect the most money.

In the lead is my math teacher, Mrs Foster, who's homeroom has raised $90 in just 3 days.

Today, during algebra, a kid gave her a donation. (Since my advisory is at $9)
She went to her desk to pull out the money bag......and it was GONE.

Someone stole the money.
Ninety-dollars.

Here's what I know:
-The only kids that know where the money is are the ones in her homeroom and get student service.
-One kid donated $40 the day before.
-There were Starbucks and iTunes gift cards in there too, but they weren't taken.
-She left right after school got out yesterday to pick up her daughter, and may have forgotten to lock the desk safe.

-This morning, DFyit (drug free club) met in the MPR, and she is in charge, so it may have been an opportunity for the thief to break in.
-The totals are kept on all the whiteboards in all the classes, so the thief (if not from her homeroom) knew where to strike.

All of us are trying to figure it out, (even though its probably hopeless now).

Anyway, post your theories and ideas here, and I'll keep you guys updated.

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments I need the back-stories of everyone in your class, if ok.

Not sure. Someone in her advisory.
I actually went to an elementary school that's different from all the other kids, so I don't really know any back stories.

I know none of my friends would ever steal the money.....hmm. There are more immature boys than girls, and most of the girls have more money than they need, so I can cross most of them off.

There probably 15 kids in her advisory. Gosh, I don't know.
If we are narrowing it down to my team, I could name a few kids that could be suspects.

message 5: by Laszlo (new)

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments Not to be rude, but the people you crossed off are off because, mainly, opinions. Until you can find evidence, everyone, even your friends, are suspects.

SUSPECTS: (well, the ones I can think of)

Nevin- used to be on my team, got moved to another team because he got busted for drugs or something, gets in trouble a lot. Family problems, not a lot of money.

Timmy- Jerk-a-thon 3000, is in Mrs. Foster's homeroom. His family has enough money, might have stolen it as a dare or the thrill....?

*thinks*

Eh. It'll come to me.

I know, but I was with them when the alleged crime happened. We walked home from school together.

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments Nevin or Timmy...

I'll list my friends though.

Samantha- Not in Mrs. Foster's homeroom, (at least I think), neighbors with Riley, (they carpool, so they can cover for eachother.) Can be funny and immature at times, but knows right from wrong. Plus, she arrived at school the same time as me.

Riley- In DFYit and Mrs. Foster's Homeroom. Carpools with Samantha. Her family has a lot of money (it feels uncomfortable saying that. But anyways) and Mrs. Foster is her favorite teacher. Was in the MPR this morning, a bunch of others can cover for her.

Sophie- she's always listening to music on her phone, and is with Daniella all the time. She's on a different team, and not in Explorers, so she wouldn't have known how much there was or where it was.

Daniella- same as Sophie.

Lauren and Phoebe- always arrive around the same time as me, leave with me. I highly doubt they would do it.

Nevin and Timmy are just two possible suspects.
Nevin wouldn't have known how much Mrs Foster had and where it was though.
Not sure why Timmy would do it either.....

Mrs Durham (English) has around the same amount as Mrs Foster.
My homeroom has $9 or $10. Carey has $75ish. Mrs Durham is always there, so it explains why no one stole from her.
A guess on WHY the money was stolen:
-Drug money

My homeroom got stolen from too. I don't understand why the Thief bothered, because we had $8. ANYWAY, putting that aside...,

NEW INFO:
-My homeroom along with two other 8th grade homerooms were stolen from too.
-The teachers and staff got together and determined that the robbery happened in evening/night.
-That day, the custodian called in sick, so a custodian from the district was sent over.
Custodians have keys for all the classrooms, and can access campus at any time. Custodians are the only ones that are at campus after hours.

MOTIVES:
-Custodians don't make much money, especially substitute custodians. $1000+ lying around at school, completely accessible, is tempting for anyone.

Julia (juliavdc) | 1713 comments Mod
-there hasn't been any robberies since.

And, some sources of the info:
-Anna, who donated $150 today.
-Samantha, whose teachers explained the situation.

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments Has anyone check video cameras?

message 20: by Julia , ~Head Mod~ (new)

Julia (juliavdc) | 1713 comments Mod
No......Im going to bring that up to my homeroom teacher.

There are these things in the classrooms. Not sure if they're cameras or not.....

There are these things in the corners of the room. They look like cameras. They are focused on the doors, not the desk where the money is, but should have picked up something, if they are cameras.

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments Ok.

Julia (juliavdc) | 1713 comments Mod
I'm honestly not surprised that they hired a thief.

I mean, my PE teacher is an ex baseball player, and they didn't know. Or bother to figure out WHY HE WAS KICKED OUT.

message 26: by Laszlo (new)

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments Wait, you figured it out?

message 27: by Julia , ~Head Mod~ (new)

Julia (juliavdc) | 1713 comments Mod
No. I was just jumping conclusions.

All the teachers think it was him, and it makes sense, but, if I've learned anything, nothing is that easy to solve.

message 28: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alexbaddour) It could be a combination of people taking from different rooms...Or not, but every lead should at least be considered. Perhaps a group of guys? Are there any other fundraising competitions in your area going on?

message 29: by Laszlo (new)

Laszlo (steampunk) | 697 comments Maybe a copycat criminal... if the original crook gets caught, they might not be careful enough to check for any other crooks.

message 30: by Julia , ~Head Mod~ (new)

Julia (juliavdc) | 1713 comments Mod
True...
That's why i originally thought it was a kid stealing, since the totals were on every room's whiteboard.

@Alexandra- Nope, not really.

The school is pressing charges against someone right now.

message 33: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alexbaddour) Woah...evidently my school once had a "Phantom Pooper". They never figured out who it was, even though they had sign out sheets in every room.

message 34: by Julia , ~Head Mod~ (new)

Julia (juliavdc) | 1713 comments Mod
What on earth is a phantom pooper??

message 35: by Julia , ~Head Mod~ (new)

Just googled phantom popper.

OHMYGAWSH.

Please tell me you're joking.

message 36: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alexbaddour) I'm afraid not. Luckily they restrained themselves to leaving their little surprises in the bathrooms.

#facepalm

There was a pair of pants and underwear in the lost and found at my elementary school.
And we didn't have any reason to change there.

(To Alexandra, not the underwear and pants.)
