Our first theme is fantasy. Each member can suggest up to 4 series of fantasy shounen. Remember not to suggest anything excessively violent or with sexual content. Keep it 16+ or under. I will put the poll for April up toward the end of this month.

Suggestions:

InuYasha Turning Back Time, Vol. 1 (InuYasha, #1) by Rumiko Takahashi , Pandora Hearts パンドラハーツ 1 by Jun Mochizuki , Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Volume 1 (Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, #1) by CLAMP , Death Note, Vol. 1 Boredom (Death Note, #1) by Tsugumi Ohba , Dragon Ball, Vol. 1 The Monkey King (Dragon Ball, #1) by Akira Toriyama , Rave Master, Vol. 1 by Hiro Mashima , Elemental Gelade, Volume 1 by Mayumi Azuma , D.Gray-man Opening, Vol. 1 by Katsura Hoshino , Suikoden III The Successor of Fate, Volume 1 (Suikoden III The Successor of Fate, #1) by Aki Shimizu , One Piece, Volume 01 Romance Dawn (One Piece, #1) by Eiichiro Oda , Bleach, Volume 1 Strawberry and the Soul Reapers by Tite Kubo , Shaman King, Vol. 1 A Shaman in Tokyo (Shaman King, #1) by Hiroyuki Takei , Arata The Legend, Vol. 1 (Arata The Legend, #1) by Yuu Watase

Hannah (faize) I nominate Death Note, Vol. 1 Boredom (Death Note, #1) by Tsugumi Ohba . There is definitely a reason it's so popular; it's incredibly intelligent and well-done and awwwwwweesommmmee....:D

Actually, it's more seinen than shounen--does it still count, Wednesday?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, the line between seinen and shounen is very fuzzy. Mainly, I don't want anything that is excessively violent and gory or has explicit sexual content. As long as it's 16+ or under it's fine.

Kristen | 224 comments Dragon Ball, Vol. 1 The Monkey King (Dragon Ball, #1) by Akira Toriyama , because it is essential.

That it is.

message 7: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (faize) Ok, great. Then Death Note is totally cool then. I view it more as a seinen because it's not big on the action and violence and whatnot, but it's more of an intelligent crime investigation thriller (very mind-boggling and plot-twisty, that's for sure) that would appeal to older readers.

Kristen | 224 comments I'd say Death Note counts as shounen. It has an older demographic than most shounen, but I'm fairly certain that it's published by Shonen Jump.

Yep, it's a Shonen Jump title.

I'm going to suggest Arata: The Legend, Vol. 1. It's pure shonen, but it was written by a mangaka that made a name for herself with shoujo, so it keeps its female readers in mind more than many other shonens do. It's a great title to test the water with since it sounds like most of you read a lot more shoujo.
