Arthur J. Gonzalez
Who are you? Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Above all, I am a lover. A person who goofs around, is constantly laughing and making others laugh.
I like to go out for runs, play with my dog, be with my friends and family, and create memories. When I’m not doing these things, you can find me writing and/or drinking coffee.

What made you want to be a writer?
I used to write poems for my mother every Mother’s Day. It’d always bring her to tears. Since then, I’ve realized the power behind words, and I hoped that one day I could inspire, motivate, and possibly change the lives of others…by the mere effort and meaning of my words.

Are the names of the characters in your novels important?
Some are and some are just names that struck me as just perfect for those particular characters.

While you were writing, did you ever feel as if you were one of the characters?
Absolutely. I think the most genuine way to write is to make sure there are pieces of you in every character. For me, it’s how I can relate to them, how their actions become authentic.

What types of things make you laugh in books?
Quirky and out-of-this-world situations that resemble those odd occurrences in my own life. I like situations that draw parallels to my own life.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
I dream. I dream of where my life will soon be. I dream of what it will be like to be able to offer my family the option to no longer worry, to no longer stress. That relaxes me, and it brings me hope.

Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor?
Yes, my editor Monica Faulkner. She’s helped me grow in so many ways. Don’t know where’d I be without her!

Will you have a new book coming out soon?
Indeed, I will. THE PHOTO TRAVELER is set to be released the end of February.

Where did you get the inspiration to write THE PHOTO TRAVELER?
One of the most important people in my life was facing a difficult time when their grandmother passed away. It affected him in such a deep way that it consequently affected me. I remember him crying, staring at an old black and white photo of his grandmother in Havana, Cuba. He held it, staring at it like she was talking back to him.
He said, “I’d give anything to travel into this picture right now and hug her.”
I jumped off the couch, my mind spinning in every direction. “What if you could?”
And from that moment…The Photo Traveler was born. It was perfect. It was as if she and my father plotted in the Heavens to gift me this story.

Where can we find your books?
THE PHOTO TRAVELER will be available on amazon, b&, apple, Kobo, etc. You can read the first 10 chapters for free at:

If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be?
Don’t ever give up. Whether it is completing your first manuscript or running a marathon…believe in yourself. Rarely will something you want just happen to fall onto your lap. You must fight for what you want with absolute, unwavering pursuit.

The Photo Traveler by Arthur J. Gonzalez
Seventeen-year-old Gavin Hillstone is resigned to being miserable for the rest of his life. Left alone in the world after his parents died in a fire when he was four, he was placed in foster care, which for him meant ending up in an abusive home with an alcoholic adoptive father.

Gavin’s only escape is in taking and creating images. His camera is his refuge from the unending torture and isolation of daily life in his “family.”

Until he learns by accident that he isn’t alone in the world after all. His father’s parents are still alive and living in Washington DC.

When he takes the plunge and travels 3,000 miles to find his grandparents, he learns that they—and he—are part of something much bigger, and more dangerous, than he could ever have imagined. Something that has always put his family at risk and that will now threaten his own life, while forever changing it.

He learns that he is one of the last descendants of a small group of Photo Travelers—people who can travel through time and space through images. But his initial excitement turns to fear, when he soon discovers that he and his grandparents are being pursued by the fierce remnants of a radical European Photo Traveler cult, the Peace Hunters. What Gavin has, they want!

His adventure will take him to past eras, like The Great Depression and the Salem Witch Trials. Gavin will have to discover who he really is and must make choices that spell the difference between life and death for himself, for the relatives he now knows and loves, and for the girl he will come to love.

For Gavin Hillstone, life will never be the same
