This book is SO good! It took a little for me to get used to the way it was written (from Morrow's perspective but not first person), but now I'm completely into the story.

I feel so terrible for Morrow and her father! That prologue was so sad!! I wonder what happened to the brother... for some reason I think he is still alive and will be reunited with them.

I can't stand Jemima! The things she says are just SO mean.

I really like Red Shirt. He seems like such a great guy. I think he has feelings for Morrow, but doesn't know how she feels.

I understand why Morrow agreed to marry Robbie, but I wish she'd tell her father her true feelings - I think he really wants her to marry Red Shirt instead.

Abbi It is really good!

That was horrible! For a five-year-old to half to see her mother and sister like that must have been so awful! I'm also curious as to what happened to the brother and I think he's still alive too!

She is so horrible! I can't stand people like that!

Yeah he's pretty cool and I agree about his feelings!

I feel the same! And even though I understand I still can't fathom marrying someone who you didn't love!

I thought it was cool how the dad of the girl from The Frontiersman's Daughter was in the beginning of this book and mentioned the girl even though I still haven't read that one. And I liked how he watched out for her.

I really don't like Major McKie, he gives me the creeps and I don't like how he acts like Morrow is his. Though it was nice that he got Robbie out of the way for a bit.

I thought it was kind of funny that Red Shirt took the Major's horse when he made his escape during the party-though he shouldn't have stolen it amused me that he took that one!

I was so happy Red Shirt was there when Morrow fell in the water and was able to save her!

That was the dad from The Frontiersman's Daughter? I had a feeling it might be, but I haven't read it yet either so I wasn't sure. Love how it connects the books. :) It was great the way he protected Morrow during her journey.

I completely agree! He gives me the creeps too and it's pathetic the way he acts towards Morrow - I have a bad feeling something terrible is going to happen. I almost wonder if Major Mckie has something nefarious planned for Robbie... I wouldn't put it past him.

That was funny and then McKie saying those horses getting stolen at Bryan's Station wouldn't have happened under his watch when his horse was stolen with him right there!! LOL!

I'm so glad Red Shirt was there when Morrow was drowning - he arrived at just the right time!

The scene where Red Shirt took Morrow to that cliff was great! I liked the way she trusted him to keep her safe and when her dad said he knew she was in good hands.

I was really nervous when Red Shirt arrived with that wound. Glad he's healed and better now.

Abbi Yeah I have also have a feeling that something bad's gone happen though I didn't think of him doing something to Robbie but I agree that I wouldn't put it past him!

:)

That was cool! I would not have had the guts to be that close even if I trusted the person showing me!

I was nervous too and I'm glad he's better now!

It was nice of Morrow to give her friends gifts even though it was her birthday and it was cool that Lizzy was able to wear it for her wedding. And speaking of that I was kinda shocked that she got pregnant before her wedding.

I'm really worried about Morrow's dad! Consumption almost always meant death in those times!

Red Shirts gift to Morrow was so nice! I was glad she ended up deciding to open it!

It was nice. Yeah. it was cool that Lizzy got to wear her dress for her wedding and I was shocked she got pregnant before her wedding, too.

I'm worried about him too. I hope he gets better, but I have a feeling he won't. :(

Me too! I was really curious what it was and was glad when she opened it. Great gift. I also liked the fur wrap he gave her.

I can't imagine how awkward it must have been for Morrow's dad to try and have that talk with her before her almost wedding.

I loved how Red Shirt kept asking for Morrow's forgiveness for what his father's people did. I'm also glad she finally gave it to him.

Abbi Haha yeah that would have been so awkward for both of them!

Me too!

I think it's cute how Joe and Good Robe named their baby after Morrow's dad! And it was nice that the Little's went to visit Good Robe when Joe was gone.

It would be very strange to have a man stay in your room for an extended time and it amused me how she hid her dolls!

That was sweet. :) Yeah, that was nice of them. :)

Agree. It would be strange and that was humorous.

It was interesting what Morrow's dad wrote in the letter she read without his knowledge.

I can see how it'd be painful to clean up the other side of their house, but I'm surprised they haven't yet since it's been so many years.

I loved how Morrow's dad said he loved her mom so much and would have died for/with her if he could. Though if he had been there, instead of in the fields, Morrow would have been left all alone.

Abbi Yeah.

I agree. You'd think they'd have been able to do it by now.

:) yeah that was sweet!

I liked how the fact that though Morrow spent two years in the city she didn't come back all prissy and unwilling to work! Instead it seems like she found a healthy balance between the two lifestyles.

I liked that too! It does seem like she's found a good balance and tries to help her dad with as many chores as she can.

Maybe it's because I'm reading a Kindle copy, but I can't think of anything else to discuss. What about you?

message 11: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Nope I can't think of anything else either!

Ready for part two?

Yep! I'll try to have it done soon, but I need to finish a couple books before continuing this one... so it might not be until late next week until I finish. Hope that's okay.

message 13: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi That's fine! I will hopefully finish it today but I don't mind waiting! Whenever you can get to it is fine!

Thanks! :) How close are you to your goal of 31 books in March?

message 15: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi I'm about to finish one and then I have the two halves of the books I'm buddying with you and Megan and I'll need one more after that to make my goal. I think if I make that last one a novella I just might make it. Though it depends on how long my relatives are here. In total I probably only need about four hours and since I can read to an from church which is a half hour drive I should be able to fit it in!

Cool!! I'm really hoping you make your goal. :) I think I've only read 12 books this month, but I'm hoping to finish one more tomorrow. :)

Finished this book way sooner than I had thought - it was just so good I didn't want to read anything else. :)

So my feeling that something bad was going to happen to Robbie was right. I feel really bad for him. It was surprising how McKie ended up being killed... and by Red Shirt. He kind of had it coming, though, with all of the evil things he did.

I'm glad Morrow's father was able to officiate her wedding to Red Shirt. It was really sad how he died shortly there after, but we kind of knew it was coming. :(

I was sort of shocked that Surrounded was the one to blame for the death of Morrow's mother and sister.

It was so cute how Morrow had twins!! What a delightful surprise it must have been for them. :)

message 21: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Yeah I felt bad for poor Robbie too! Kinda reminded me of the David, Bathsheba, and Uriah situation. I was surprised by that too but I agree that he did have it coming.

Yeah.

That completely surprised me! I would not have guessed that at all!

It was adorable! I loved how Rosebud looked like Red Shirt and Jess looked like, well Jess! As soon as someone (don't remember who)made a comment about how big she was I knew it was gonna be twins!

Was it just me or was it a little weird thinking of the Indians and Redcoats as the good guys? Pretty much everything else you read is the complete opposite so it messed with my brain a bit!

It was so horrible when the Indians came to destroyed the fort and took Morrow and Rosebud but she lost Jess. I was so happy when we found out he was alright!

So I totally guessed right off the bat that the guy who was helping Morrow was Jess, but it was still cool! So happy that they found each other again and that he's gonna stick around. Sad about his family though!

I was impressed by Morrow's ability to adapt to life on the road, on horseback no less! And pregnant! I loved how whenever she started to think she was a burden Red Shirt would reassure her that she wasn't!

It wasn't just you. I thought it was a little weird to think of them as the good guys, too.

That was terrible! I was so glad when we found out Jess was alright! How horrible for her to not only be taken, but also get separated from one of her babies.

I guessed it was Jess too! Agree, it was so cool! I'm glad he's going to stick around, too. That last scene when he confessed that he was her brother was very sweet. :)

That was impressive and I loved how Red Shirt did that too. :)

I was really nervous when Red Shirt got hurt. I'm glad that Morrow went to him and was able to give birth to their twins with him near.

I understand why Red Shirt left Morrow for those periods of time (to scout, get their place in Missouri, etc.), but I would have hated that.

I thought it was interesting how Louis (Jess) said the same thing to Morrow when he left her with the gun as he did when he left her by the water years ago.

message 23: by Abbi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbi Oh my goodness I am so sorry! I posted a comment in reply but for some reason it never actually posted and I didn't notice it until just now!

I felt the same! I was afraid she would have to have them without him!

I would have too! It's not so bad now days since there are some many forms of communication but back then with no way of knowing-yikes!

Yeah that was interesting. I also thought it was cool how he knew who they were by their wedding rings and that they were able to get Red Shirt's back because of that!

I loved the scene where Morrow takes the walk to find Red Shirt and he ends up following her. Their talk was so sweet!

It was really cool how Loramie and his family were so welcoming and helpful to Morrow each time they came to them. Both giving them a place to stay and helping with the babies!

I was so happy when Joe came to the fort! It must have been so nice for Morrow to see an old friend. An I'm glad he decided to stay around so he was there when Morrow needed him to take her to Red Shirt.

It was really cool that he recognized the wedding ring and that Red Shirt got his back...I had been hoping he would. :)

I loved that scene too! :)

I agree! It was great how friendly and helpful they were.

Me too! I loved how he showed up at the fort and stayed a while. It was also great how the Little's gave him their cabin/land.
