President Obama Jokes About Being a Bad Bowler: 'It's Like the Special Olympics'
March 19, 2009 8:56 PM

The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."

Facing tough questions about the performance of his Treasury Secretary, $165 million in bonuses for AIG officials and anticipating a fight over his $3.55 trillion budget, the president has not had a particularly good week, and it's unlikely this will help matters.

really don't particularly care.i have better things to do with my life than watch leno. one of you all will have to tell me if they edit the remark out. but will be interesting to watch the professional grievance mongers give him a pass.

I still don't understand why people think he is good for the country. He is doing a terrible job across the board. Blaming P.Bush doesn't cut it, Bush took office in a recession too if you recall. And I hate to bring this up but I think President Bush's' "historic expansion" of government was forced, we had no mechanism in place to coordinate efforts against terrorist organizations in 01'.

Also to blame the repubs for our current economic woe's is just as off target as the first paragraph. Looking back over the record proves in fact that the Dems have repeatedly deregulated the financial system... what they are referring to when they claim the repubs deregulated the financial markets is that they repubs were fighting against pro ACORN type shit forcing the industry to do business they knew wasn't viable.

But your right America lets look the other way and listen to the Obama Socialist complex. Maybe I'll move to Antarctica I hear penguins are nice...

Varmint | 208 comments yep, it's on youtube.

leno hesitates for a split second, but then goes on like nothing happened.

i don't care about the remark. just a trivial mistake.

what interests me is the way it exposes the tools who will rationalize and excuse anything the messiah does. if bush had said the same thing they would be giving birth to ugly shrieking kittens right now.

and apparently all is right with the free world when it's leader has the spare time to practice bowling.

Not Bill | 467 comments Also on record was Obama - away from the almighty teleprompter - compared the AIG fiasco to a suicide bombing. Moral equivalence bullshit. It's not Barry, so STFU.

Now - we all remember the orchistrated bruhaha over W's debate performance and the mysterious "lump" in the back of his shirt? The nutroots claimed he was being spoon fed information. Now, Obama et all are doing this in broad daylight and are even attempting to develope an even more sophisticated system by which to do this. And the response from those very same people and their MSM lackeys?

Varmint | 208 comments then there was his remark, something to the effect of ...

"who would have thought a year ago that iraq would be the least of my problems?"

obviously you and every other democrat who thought the war was lost, and opposed the surge couldn't have anticipated that we'd be winning now.
