should we start with an alphabet or make up some new words... spell things backwards

How about spelling one syllable words backwards (woh is how), mixing up two syllable words up (bouta is about), and for three syllable words, a mix of both maybe?

Ideas for that: quietest
Can be estquite, last syllable first, then the first, and spell the middle syllable backwards
Etquitse, 2nd syllable first, 1st syllable next, last syllable spelled backward

Or maybe words with two syllables should be 2nd syllable first and then first one spelled backwards. Like backward would be wards cab or something.

Which would maybe make three syllable words be 2nd syllable first, then 3rd, and spell the 1st syllable backwards. Quietest being ettestiuq. Then four syllable words and so on would follow the rule of the second syllable being first.
