Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 2369 comments Good. We're enjoying "Humans", too. "Dark Matter" is going well & I'm still watching "Kill Joys".

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) no one else remembered "Space: 1999"?

W.T. Fallon (wtfallon) | 3 comments I agree with Firefly. I do like Dark Matter but think the writing could be better. Is anyone watching Incorporated? I'm really enjoying that one. Very well-written, well-rounded characters with believable motivations. Also a scary look at the future if we don't do anything about climate change.

Susan Kite | 57 comments I remember 1999, but didn't care for it that much. I loved Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, first two seasons; Lost in Space, first season, The Time Tunnel and Man from Atlantis, first season.

Lynne Stringer | 115 comments I loved Man from Atlantis!

I did too, but it was more as potential. The pilot movie was great, fairly serious SF for TV, especially for its time. But once they regular series started, it got very cheesy. I remember one episode where the Big Monster was a giant jellyfish, and it was pretty obviously a blow-up beach ball with wavy plastic streamers glued to the bottom. And most of the episodes seemed to have the same villain -- was it Victor Buono? But it was just him and Mark back and forth over and over. I was a kid when it was on, but I think even then I was watching it more for the hope that it'd get back to the pilot's quality than for itself. Loved the characters and the set-up, but they didn't (have the budget to?) do a very good job with it.

Lynne Stringer | 115 comments Yes, the storylines in the series weren't that great. I think they used Mr Schubert (the villian) so much because the two characters had worked so well in the pilot. I sometimes wish they'd try and redo it but it is a difficult scenario for a great deal of diverse writing.

Susan Kite | 57 comments That's why I said first season. Second season had little to redeem it, (except Patrick Duffey) and yes, they got rather cheesy. Even Star Trek had it's share of cheesy episodes....

Phil J | 329 comments Red Dwarf
Prisoner
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

Why all the hate for Buck Rogers? I thought it was fun. I even liked Twiki.

Susan Kite | 57 comments No hate from me. I liked the show, too. Each season had redeeming qualities, although the way they got rid of Huer and Xenopholis stunk. Wilma's dairy queen outfit was a joke. Hawk was a great character, too.

Buduh Buduh Buduh Buduh - Thanks Phil!

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) Has anyone watched "The 100"? Someone at my gym told me to watch it, and I thought it was kind of a joke with all these good looking teens who looked like they escaped from the set of Twilight. The acting is terrible - most of the male actors just stand around with their shirts off and flex their cheek muscles while the female leads gravitate to the far ends of the "Madonna-whore" spectrum - and don't even get me started on the corny dialogue. The special effects look like first generation CGI and the cheap sets appear to have been recycled from Battlestar Galactica. Anyway, I've watched 3 episodes on Netflix and I'm torn between "train wreck" and "popcorn-grade guilty-pleasure."

Season 1 starts pretty rubbish, but ends up surprisingly good. Season 2 is surprisingly good, gets better, and there are parts of the end of the season that are just brilliant. You'd really be surprised how well-crafted and morally complex it becomes.
Season 3 has good elements, but goes quite considerably wrong in several different ways (trying to simultaneously live up to the brilliance of the end of S2, while also trying too hard to keep to their original plans for the characters, I think).
I'll probably watch Season 4, or at least start it, but my hopes are not all that high. I suspect it struck gold by chance and won't do so again. But it's definitely worth sticking through the first couple of seasons, despite the ropy acting (some of which improves... some of which doesn't) and cliché dialogue.

Update: Season 2 of iZombie was arguably even better than Season 1. The finale of Season 2 is a genuinely great zombie film in its own right (one thing iZombie does very well is be able to switch rapidly from parody of zombie horror (most of the time) to, occasionally, actual zombie horror). And things look to be set up for an interesting Season 3.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 2369 comments I'm another iZombie fan.

I agree with Wastrel about The 100. I expected it to be another awful teenybopper drama from the CW, and it has a few typical breakup scenes, but overall, the writing on that show is pretty tight. The teen romance stuff is kept to a minimum, and the plot moves at a good pace. It also has a lot of violence and very serious subject matter that you don't normally see on a teen show. As far as dystopian shows go, I think it's pretty good.

nmm (nihilisticmadman) I consider Farscape to be one of the best scifi TV Show ever made, was terribly upset to see it stop so totally agree with OP.

The end was spectacular. Would love to see a come back of Farscape. In the future, when their kid is older, old enough to tackle the new challenges the galaxy is now facing.

Earth Final Conflict and Earth 2.0 defo great shows too.

Lexx is one that is often forgotten as well and could defo do with more love as I think it was brilliant. Loved the costumes, stories and the designs of the ships were just awesome.

A year or two ago, they were developing a sequel to Farscape, about the kid. Don't know if you knew that or if it was just coincidence.
Since I've heard nothing since, I assume it's not happening...

No didn't realised they were talking about maybe bringing it back like that, that would be pretty awesome. Well if it's done as good as the original. Sequels are not always as good unfortunately.
