Ed Morawski | 54 comments The topic about love/hate books gave me this idea. What authors have you once loved and now hate (maybe because you discovered more about them)?

In my case the most glaring example is Stephen King. The more I know about him the less I like, to the point I refuse to read any of his work (which I think has gone way down hill).

Have you ever read his 'year's best lists'? Most of his picks are pure dreck. And yes I really can't get past his politics...

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Funny, Stephen King is the opposite for me. When I first heard of him I thought, overblown hype. But when I started reading his books I thought, hey, this is pretty good. It's just entertaining. The Dark Tower series is one of my favorites.

Anyway, I don't ever love/hate. Either I like or I don't. But to answer the quesstion, I would say, Lovecraft.

I second Lovecraft. I never liked him because I didn't know who he was until last year but I think he's so overrated and beyond overjoyed.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 343 comments I don't want this to turn into Lovecraft bashing, but I agree to a point. I love his Mythos and some of his plots, but his writing itself is just ugh.

I actually like stories written by other writers using Lovecraft's Mythos much better than I like Lovecraft's writing itself.

Lovecraft was also quite racist.

message 6: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Well, yes, he was a raging racist, so there is that.

I think he came up with some very interesting ideas. It's the dialogue that made me turn away. Oh god, the dialogue.

Where everyone... talks... like... this... all... the... time...

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments I have the Lovecraft, Complete Fiction collection, but haven't read it yet.

For me it'd have to be Anne Rice. I loved her work when I was in school, it was different and didn't treat me like I was stupid. but somewhere along the line she lost me. It was like she created too grand an idea and just couldn't keep things straight anymore.

message 8: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Agreed on Anne Rice. Wonerful fiction. Then after a while...

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments yeah kind of a shame too cuz she brought back Lestat and i'm curious, but I don't feel like reading all the books in the series to catch up with something that may not be all that great

message 10: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor Danielle Steel

Not worth it. Trust me.

message 12: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments yeah wasn't planning on it lol I saw how many i'd have to read to catch up and doesn't really strike me as something worth the entire series

Did you ever love Danielle Sreel...?

message 14: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor *confused face at Lily* Yeah I did love her. I'm not sure if you were asking to tease me or being serious

We come from different worlds, and I come in peace.

message 16: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments and thus I have had my second laugh of the day thanks to Shari. and Lily too, of course.
seriously though, Danielle Steel books are one of the most often found books here. be it at yard sales or goodwill, but NEVER in book stores. I shit you not, I've actually tried looking out of pure curiosity and couldn't find any lol

message 17: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor Ah I guess. *shrugs* I love romance and horror with equal love. Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts and Judy Bloom were my intro into the romance genre. I tried getting into Steel's books again after years of having read one but all the books just seemed to be recycled copies of her older work. There are are still books that I enjoy by Steel though. I just no longer care for her work

Michael Benavidez | 1605 comments cant judge a person based off their taste. :)

message 19: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor >.> Yeah cause this person will cut you

message 20: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Sherilyn Kenyon. I absolutely loved all her Dark Hunter Books until I read Styxx. After that I couldn't pick up another book by her and haven't since.

If you read the first few Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice you genuinely like her. However seeing that there's a ton in the series I'm sure they can get tiresome and after a while you slowly start to hate her writing.

message 22: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor Yeah a lot of readers were turned off by Styxx.

message 23: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor I think with Rice, you want to keep your love pure for her, you gotta stop reading her books at a certain point. I can tell you when exactly I should have stopped reading her books so I didn't read her books and go blah. I still love her but I know I won't be picking up any more of her books.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 467 comments There was a Half price book store that had lots of Danielle Steel books in the liquidation bin (the bin for books that don't sell).

I never read any Danielle Steel book so I bought a hard cover one for a buck just to see what it was like. Don't ask me the title, I don't remember. I never read the book either. A neighbor borrowed it and moved a thousand miles away. No need to say I never saw the book again.

I guess I didn't miss anything then?

message 25: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor No you ain't missing anything G.G. lol

Dhfan4life | 5 comments Laurell K. Hamilton. Once she introduced the sex harem in her books it was all over from there for me.
