Has Wild inspired you in any way?

Before reading this treasure of a book, I would never have thought to go hiking. Now, I have planned to spend two weeks on the Appalachin Trail this summer. I was inspired by Cheryl's story and hope to enjoy the great outdoors more when I return.

Wild inspired me to dig out my old pictures of my ex-husband and me during our weekend hikes along portions of the Pacific Crest Trail during the 1970s. Such sweet memories. :)

This book inspired me to take time to myself and find myself after my recent breakup. I have also really thought about spending a week on the PCT to see some the beauty she saw and enjoy nature in its rawest form.

In a small way I've been inspired by Wild. My husband and I visited several national parks in May and I was a lot more enthusiastic about hiking than ever before. In fact, just plain walking has been incorporated into my weekly activities and I'm loving it. Often I reflect back on a scene or something Cheryl said in the book that would help push me just a little bit harder.

My husband and I like to hike. We live in California, and this book has inspired us to hike some of the Pacific Crest Trail this summer.

Absolutely! In fact, the AT and the PCT are receiving record attention due to the recent successes of books like Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, Into the Wild, and A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail. My wife & I have been planning an AT thru-hike for 2017.

I have only watched the movie so far. But I was really moved by it and what inspired me was her guts to take on the challange of doing something comp+letely new to her, not knowing where it was going to lead her. I mean, she knew physically but emotionally and spiritually, she didn't know where she would end up. It inspired me that she didn't shy away from the silience, that is a huge challenge for me, and for many people I think today, do dare to be alone with just ourselves and see where it takes us. Absolutely beautiful film.

I don't know that it inspired me per say, but I did enjoy it. It made me nervous. I love to hike and have hiked my fair share of dangerous trails so to picture someone with no hiking experience going out on such a dangerous adventure scares the crap out of me. BUT I do admire her determination. It reminds me that I too can do anything!

As a city girl I have always been timid about hiking alone. After seeing the movie and reading the book I am inspired to try it (I will be taking my dog though). Short hikes to start and we will see where we go from there!
