There's one guy in particular with shaggy blond hair and glasses at the back desk. When you ask him to help you find something, he pretends you punched him in the balls.

It's worth it to stop in the store and ask him where things are just to annoy him, if you're in the neighborhood.

I went in the Strand the first week I lived in New York... and after an continually frustrated hour of looking around, I fled.

I kept going back, kept trying to either find the book I wanted myself(they never had copies of anything I was looking for, but had 8 copies of everything else) or asking about the book I wanted (I have experienced the blond guy) and not getting any help, so I finally decided to never go back.
