This year I plan to waste less time on Netflix and Facebook and more time on random fun reading :) I'm an ecclectic reader so plan to include non-fiction as well as fiction. I work at a library, so this will give me an excuse to actually read some of the really interesting items that I order or catalog :)

Book #1: The HobbitI started the year by re-reading The Hobbit while recovering from the flu. It's great comforting cuddle reading....
Book #2 Bloodchild and Other StoriesThis is a great set of short stories from classic sci-fi writer Octavia Butler. Her writing is a unique was she was. I could have lived without the about the author stuff at the back. I thought it took up too much space that could have been devoted to more stories. But the stories were great.
Book #3 World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie WarMy kids recommended this one. I loved the style. Edgy but not gross. And the use of so many characters to tell the story was a nice switch. I do have my doubts about how Brad Pitt will be able to pull this off in film. Also the money-building technique of dragging a single book out into 3 films is getting old...
Book #4 Which Big Giver Stole the Chopped Liver?Bubble-gum level reading, but a nice relaxing way to spend a lazy Friday evening....
Good luck on your goal, Denise.
Wow, working in a library -- how dangerous! I can't even imagine how much bigger my to-read list would be if I worked with books every day!

Thanks Tiffany. It certainly provides me a with a steady stream of potential reads for when I find the time!
Good luck on your goal. I am reading World War Z now and I like the book but I find it is taking me awhile to read. It takes several pages for me to get into it each time. Was it like that for you?
It wasn't. I found this one really engaging -- I started and finished it the same day. Maybe you're just not in a zombie mood? :)
Book #6 American PsychoI really HATED this book. I can't believe I actually finished it. It was gross, disgusting, graphic and boring at the same time. I found I needed to read something else right away to get the thought of it out of my mind....
Book #8 That's a Fact Jack!I'm a fan of useless trivia. This was OK. I've always wondered what to call the inifinity sign [lemniscate, if you're curious]...
Book #9 Darkly Dreaming DexterI had no idea this was a novel before it was a series. I enjoyed the first novel, but probably won't read the sequels. It was very close to the TV series (a few changes in who survives, but not as many as I'd expected).
Book #10 On Rumors: How Falsehoods Spread, Why We Believe Them, What Can Be DoneI'm trying to branch out this year into other styles and genres. This is one of the branches that dead ended. It had such great potential. Hard to believe that a book about rumors could be this boring.

Book #11 Hand Wash Cold: Care Instructions for an Ordinary LifeNothing like Zen in the car to pass the time....
Denise wrote: "Book #5 FledglingThis was a fantastic read. I'm fairly certain there's a sequel -- I can't wait!"
Bummer -- there isn't a sequel. Don't you hate it when the author dies at the start of a promising series?!
Hmmm... I see I'm a bit behind on my annual goal. I'm hoping for some nice quiet reaading time this summer!
Book #16:
Very fascinating. And VERY scary. I can't believe they incluide Caffiene Addiction in a manual of mental disorders....
Book #17:
: Interesting way to use up all those collard and chard left in the garden. A few too many ingredients on many of the recipes though...
Book #19:
This was a wonderful gift from friends who visited Holland recently. And a great opportunity to practice my Dutch.
Book 20#:
: This os a pretty scathing review of the effects of organized religion. Sadly, he makes some really valid points. I think God is alwyAs great, but human interpretations leave much to be desire.
Book 21:
: My son thinks this should be called How to ruin a great fruit smoothie but putting Kale where it doesn't belong...
Book 22#:
: If you love soup and enjoy local produce, this is really the only soup book that you need. The recipes are delicious, easy, and easily modified to whatever is blooming in your area.
