The Edge - Ilona Andrews
The On The Edge book was one of my favorites of all time. Better than Kate Daniels? I don't know, it's completely different. Unlike the Kate Daniels it stands well by itself. It's really a perfect story for me--has so many awesome elements: Great characters, wonderful plot and awesome magic/world. I didn't care for the second in the series much, but the first was totally awesome.
This book was good. I don't know that I can compare it to the Kate Daniels series, since I like series like Kate better in general, but I love their writing style. If you like Ilona Andrews, read it. I need to continue this series at some point.
This book was good. I've read the second one in the series and I didn't like it as much as the first, but it was good as well. The world created is very interesting. I'd like to read the following books in the series.
I've had this series sitting in my TBR pile. I pulled it out this morning thinking that I wanted to start this series. So this may make me more motivated to get reading.
I've also had the first book sitting on a shelf for ages. This is just the incentive I need to get to it.
I think I'll try and start it this weekend. It is a shame it ends at book four, I kept hearing wonderful things about it from readers.
It's got to be very hard to write two series at once. That's a LOT of writing to get done and out the door. Ilona Andrews does various short stories too and I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be family life in there somewhere...right???
It is amazing how they do it, but it's also their full time jobs isn't it?Wow, just started it! Amazing opener!

I don't know if they both have given up other jobs. I think it does say on the blog/website. But still. Writing one or two books a year with all the editing, re-edits, promotion and blogging--that's definitely a full time job.
Very true! They're amazing!I was in awe following Richelle Mead's blog and following her while she did three series at the same time.
Shera (Book Whispers) wrote: "Very true! They're amazing!I was in awe following Richelle Mead's blog and following her while she did three series at the same time." There is no way I could do that. It's mildly possible I could do two, although I don't know that I could put out two books in a single year. Probably close to that, but I'm not that fast when it comes to creating and writing. I know some authors can easily handle 3 books a year (Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb anyone). But to keep that pace going year after year...I think I'd bury myself under the bed and never come out!
I could see it if you were a full time author. What I couldn't see is keeping track of the people and the worlds. On that note I was under the impression that The Edge series was a spinoff of the Kate Daniel's universe. Either way I'm still enjoying this UF world, very clever!

No, it's a unique world. The book they did last--that just came out is a spin off. It's one of the side characters in the Kate Daniels world.
I have been a full time author for the last five years and I can safely say there is no way I could do it. Granted, there are two of them, but I am not sure how much that would help me. Some of it is a concentration thing.
In talking to other authors it's apparent that we all write at a different pace. And, definitely, some of us are better at keeping different stories going. For some authors it's a great break and almost a relief to have two going. For others...it's probably mass confusion!!! :>)
Ah, yes Gunmetal. I believe they had to have that one to continue the Kate Daniel's series. Yeah, it is amazing seeing how different authors work.

That's the one! I kept thinking there was magic in the title and couldn't find it! I haven't read it yet so that didn't help either!
It is interesting. There's no one way to wash a dish and there's no one way to write a book! (Just ask my husband when he's loading the dishwasher. I always do it wrong...) :>)
I just love that the Andrews team and the fact that they don't want to drag out the series unless it actually has a plot. It's so amazing! (I feel ashamed cause I only finished up to book 4!)It's nice to have authors like that.

You mean the Kate Daniel's series? I think the first 4 are the strongest (so far anyway). I admire them too. But I do hoard books, even my favorite author's books. Sometimes I hoard them for a year looking forward to them before I read them.
Yeah, the Kate Daneil books. I do the book hoarding thing big time before I read them. There's only a few series that I actaully read as they come out.
I read the first book in the series, but haven't made it beyond that. I thought On the Edge was creative and interesting. I liked the characters, plot, the unique world...some points a little predictable, but very enjoyable!

It is a bit predictable, but I am really enjoying it.In fact, I like it more then I did the first Kate Daniels book. It's beckoning me to stay up all night.
At first I was ready to not like this book. in the beginning it was a little boring. I am pleased that I stuck with it! it really turned out to be a very good book.

I remember it feeling not UF and then it feeling kind of fantasy...and then it all started to work really well for me!
Hmmmmm . . . interesting. I love seeing how other readers got into it. I like the UF/EF mix of it. Plus, Andrew's humor was really great in this one.

I have a hold on On the Edge at my local library, but I don't think I'll be lucky enough to get it before the month is over. :( I'll come back to comment on it once I do get to it, though. :)

I just started this one! Seems like a good start! Hoping it gets better and better and that I will love it! So far this month majority of the new authors and series I have tried out have been disappointing.

Thankfully Benedict Jacka came through for me because the rest this month were DNF.
But I predict you will LOVE On The Edge!! It's a great book.
I thought it was a good book. It was true to the Andrews team's writing, however the more noticeable romantic overtones make it not my favorite series for them. I think I like their more urban fantasy writings.
Funny thing was I really thought I'd have a problem with a more romantic take on Andrews' writing, but I enjoyed it. It was kind of nice.
Im about 70% into the book. I am liking this one. It moves pretty quick and I find myself getting into it and really liking the characters. The romantic aspect is kind of fun. I like the banter!
I loved the banter. I probably do view it more as a romance than UF, but it's well done in this first book. I didn't like the subsequent book nearly as much as I think it did go with too many romantic underpinnings. This first one was just right for me!
Finished it and I really did like it. I would put this more PNR then UF. It was an interesting world build. For me the romance aspect was nice. It was nice to finally read something where the girl was just enough independent and just enough wanting a knight in shining armor to come to her rescue. I also found it nice to have some romance without the love triangle can't decide which man i want and every man falls over backwards cause Im so good looking and awesome.

I'm sure it's just that I am an ugly duck and all that, but I simply never had to deal with every man falling over backwards and falling instantly in love with me. I guess I just don't have any empathy for such a situation.
Some of the books make it sound more like a police lineup--0kay ladies, which guy do you want now???
