Angel | 23 comments This is a book a customer of ours is looking for. It was written about 1948. It involves Peleliu Island, Leyte Gulf, Chi Chi Jima, and ship called CVL San Jacinto. George Bush (Jr) was discussed in this book; he was attacked and parachuted out. Author may have been a naval historian. The book may discuss Admiral Kurita (Japanese admiral)

Already confirmed NOT: "The Battle for Leyte Gulf: The incredible story of WWII's Largest Naval Battle"
or "The Japanese at Leyte Gulf: The Sho Operation"

Dave | 15 comments I might be able to help . . . indirectly.I don't know the name of this book, but William Manchester wrote a memoir called "Goodbye, Darkness" about his experiences on Peleliu, and the bibliography might reference the book you're looking for. And if not in there, perhaps the bibliography to "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" (winner of a Samuel Eliot Morison Award in 2004) might contain a reference (that book is all about a group of light aircraft carriers - CVLs - that turned the tide at Leyte).
