I started about a day and a half ago. I'm on page 156 (according to Amazon) and I am totally loving this book. The 20's are my favorite time period in history. My grandma was just about the same age as Evie. Grandma has told me so many wonderful stories from that decade. It is so much fun to compare what she has told me to what the author has written. I really miss her. I would have had her listen to the book too so, she could tell me what's accurate and what's not. I'll to dig my albums and see if I can find a picture of her from then :)Just let me know when you are ready to start discussing...I can't wait :)
Just wanted to let you know I finished the book...I don't want to spoil anything for you so I will wait until you are ready :)
No problem....So, you are around the part when Sam starts living at the museum...What are your thoughts so far? That little nursery rhyme "Naughty John, Naughty John does his work with his apron on. Cuts your throat and steals your bones, sells em off for a coupla stones" gives me the creeps. It is right up there with "One, two Freddy's comin' for you"
Between Mable and Theta, I like Theta more. I've always been partial to the tough girl rather than the innocent girl.
Do you have a preference between Sam and Jericho? I like Sam's "devil may care" additude (weird, Google doesn't know how to spell 'additude' it keeps highlighting it as misspelled). Jericho seems too much of a stuffed shirt.
I guess that's it for now :)
Sorry, didn't see your post til now. I'm now on p300. So happy!Anyway, I totally agree with the nursery rhyme giving the creeps. Sends tingles up my spine.
Between, Theta and Mabel; definetly prefer Theta, though now that Mabel is sticking up for herself, she's growing on me.
Really like Sam AND Jericho for different reasons. Though I think I'd prefer Jericho myself.
No problem...you are probably like me and still not getting your email notifications :( I finally contacted GR, 4 or 5 days ago, about it and guess what? I've not heard a thing. They have probably sent me an email and I'm not receiving it...lolYou are almost done so I'll wait to discuss more until you are. I'll keep checking back often to see when you are ready :)
I kept yelling at the book, "Don't go under the bridge! Isaiah warned you to not go under the bridge!". They never listen do they :)
Okie Dokie! The question that comes to mind first is:What is your opinion on the Jericho twist? I mean really a cyborg (I'm not sure if cyborg is the right term but it's all I've got). This was way to far fetched for me and it was the only part of the book that disappointed me. It was just way out of place IMO :)
I totally agree. It just seemed a little forced by Libba Bray. Sorf of like she was saying "Oh, I know! I'll just throw that twist in to make it even more scary," but it didn't work. It just seemed like it was an attempt to get on the bandwagon of books like Cinder etc.
I really liked Cinder looking forward to Scarlet.I do believe I've have the same "diviner" power as Sam. The only difference is I don't have to actually think don't see me, it just happens...LOL
I'm interested in finding out what happens with Sam's search for his mom...if I had to guess that will be the main plot of the next book. Bray did shock me when she tied Sam to "Unc" Will. I wasn't expecting that at all. What I'm not quite sure about is if Will knew who Sam was and that's why he gave him the job and let stay stay in the museum.
I can't wait to see where Evie's power takes her next. Also, I've been wondering about Will's lady friend (in the photograph) and if she has any links to the Diviners.
Isn't she suppose to be part of that group (I can't remember the name) that Will and Sam's mom were in or am I creating my own story...lol
I'm sorry, you are right. Margaret "Sister" Walker was the one I was thinking of who they revealed toward the end of the book is in the group with Will and Sam's mom...I've got a crappy cold and my brain is fuzzy :)
I never even thought of that but that would explain a lot.You know who I really like? Henry. He's funny and kind. He's still at that mysterious stage and I'm pretty sure there is more behind his story. What made him decide to take Theta in. He's gay isn't his he? (Or did I get that wrong too?) So, I doubt he did it for romantic reasons. And what is divine power? He has to have one.
Now, I need more information. I didn't realize there was my loose ends to tie up. I'm going to my library website right now and request the next one :)
It is requested! But it doesn't look like I'll get it until the middle of Feb. two people are already on the request list :(I was just thinking I'm surprised that it appeared "Unc" Will and Theta were the only two that smoked. I remember when I went through my smoking phase (thank goodness it didn't last long) my Grandma told me that she smoked for a while back in her late teens to early 20's. She said that everybody and their pet dog smoked. It was just something you did. :) And with Evie and her love for gin, you would think that smoking would just be a natural thing for her.
Oh goodness! Henry, yes. And yep, he is gay. His relationship with Theta is so sweet. And the smoking thing is weird. Strange. Perhaps they have twenties ethics.
Which is even strnager.
More later....
I do believe I'm going to go back to bed, cover my head and not wake until spring...I just realized I didn't request the next Diviners because it's not out yet. I requested Unholy Magic which is another second book in a series I just started...ugh
