This A-Z consists of the names of the members of our group and you have to read a book off each one's bookshelf.

Example for "C" read one book off Claudia's etc. For U - Read from a member that has a U in their name. You may not use your own shelf!

You can put the date you saw it on the specific person's shelf, just for the record if they delete it for some reason :)

This will run from January 01, 2013 - December 31, 2013.

PS: This was Carolien's idea!

LMFO! Did you guys know we have a group member named Epic Sex?

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
I have also had a little giggle at Q it seems our choices are between the books of a "Queer" publishing house and a man named Quentin who sells insurance and appears from his profile pic (which may be an optical illusion) to have a blade runner leg! That is some serious diversity!

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) wrote: "LMFO! Did you guys know we have a group member named Epic Sex?"

Haha any books on his/her shelves worth reading?

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Hey loophole alert, can I use my own name? Doesn't say I can't :)

message 15: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12655 comments Mod
No idea, this is new and I just posted it for Carolien. Anyone have any ideas?

message 16: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I would say no. Especially since the L has so many other options. Every letter has more options I believe so it should be able for everyone to find someone else whose bookshelf they can use.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Using your own name is a) Too easy (and this is already an easy challenge, you don't even need the loophole) and b) seems to defeat the idea behind the challenge, which is checking out other members and their books.

message 18: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I wouldn't call it an easy challenge. I am trying to buy books I want and not because I need them for challenges. So I already spend I don't know how much time searching for members with books I already own. That is why there is a list in my post. that is my planning. I never plan for these A-Z Challenges.

message 19: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Well, I'd say it's easier than the Title and Author version of these challenges, at least when I look at it terms of how I do these. I don't really plan either, because I have to read review books, so I just try to fit those in where I can. With the title challenge, each book can only fit in one place, and if that's taken, you can't use it. The Author challenge is slightly easier, because you have the option of 2-4 names/initials and you can move your books around. The Character challenge is very easy, because almost all books will give you multiple characters to use.

So this one seems easy because of how much shuffling you can do, especially if you read a book that's on multiple shelves. And if you read many books during the year, it should be easy to find 26 that are on other users' lists. The unusual letters will pose a problem, but they almost always do anyway.

message 20: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12655 comments Mod
Agreed. Updating the first post :)

message 21: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 2256 comments Mod
I've learned two things so far in the planning for this one. It is easier if you make sure most books that you plan to read for the year is on your TBR shelf so that you can compare books with other members quickly. Secondly, everybody seem to have Pratchett, Tolkien and Harry Potter on their shelves!

message 22: by Lauren (last edited Jan 02, 2013 01:17AM) (new)

Lauren Smith Lol, when stuck, read Pratchett!

I think we're very lucky that the only X member has almost 30 000 books listed!

Indeed. Fortunately one of the Z ones also has a big list. We need to recruit some members starting with O and Q or encourage the current ones to expand their shelves!
