C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) Hello Emma, I'm Carolyn. Did you do reviews? I'm interested to see if you LOVE Lyn Hamilton and Juliet Blackwell as much as I do - especially the fellow Canadian, who is no longer with us.

message 19: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) Hi. No, I haven't done any reviews :( But I really like both Lyn Hamilton and Juliet Blackwell. I love books with archaeology/history and also with magic/mysticism, so both of these series are a big hit with me ;D

message 20: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) 17. Agatha Raisin and the Fairies of Fryfam (Agatha Raisin, #10) by M.C. Beaton

message 21: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) The reason for links is the reviews for the books and there are plenty of them.

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) Are you responding to me, Shirley? Yes, of course there are plenty of Lyn and Juliet reviews. I was asking Emma for HER thoughts. I've seen poor reflections by people who didn't get those authors at all.

message 23: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) I know, I was surprised by how many negative reviews I read about The Xibalba Murders (An Archaeological Mystery, #1) by Lyn Hamilton , but I loved it. I mean, yes the plot was a bit far-fetched, but it is after all only a work of fiction - I think some reviewers forget that ;0)

message 24: by C. (friends, please call me by name) (last edited May 04, 2013 08:00AM) (new)

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) **Hugs Emma**! Not farfetched, if Lyn Hamilton's series is a tiny supernatural, mixed with anthropology. With the vampire crap out there, get serious right? Here's why I stopped relying on reviews and am excited for you to add your insight. (I should show mine).

#4 "The Celtic Riddle" has gotten called least favourite. Emma, I've been reading in order and I find it the best of all! ~Carolyn~

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) Have you read Madelyn Alt in order? How do you like this one? I did reviews. There were annoyances and things I love. http://www.amazon.ca/review/R2CSMI4MT...

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) Yes, I have read them in order. I think this one was my fave so far, though I am starting to get a little bit annoyed with Tom. Great review by the way :D

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) I'm glad you like it! :) I was enthusiastic about the first two, then there were hardly ghosts or witchcraft. 'Tom' drags through all but the last couple novels. Then 'Maggie' drags telling her Mom she prefers 'Marcus'. Madelyn hints at good stuff but dropped the ball. She's lucky fans love revisiting the characters. When she releases "In Charm's Way", she'd be wise to amp it up.

message 44: by C. (friends, please call me by name) (last edited Oct 03, 2013 01:43PM) (new)

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) There's no note on how you like the above. I own both Kari Lee Townsend and hope they're as great as they look. Nothing gets me in literature like a falsified paranormal description.

message 45: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) I really enjoyed this one. I love mysteries with a paranormal twist and this was one of the better ones that i've read.

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) Twist, or is it not an outright paranormal book?

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) No, I didnt think it was a paranormal book. There are elements of the PN, like the haunted house and Sunny being a fortune teller, but I.M.O, I wouldnt class it as a paranormal book :D

message 48: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) 34. Charmed to Death (Ophelia & Abby, #2) by Shirley Damsgaard

C. (friends, please call me by name) (riedel) Come on girl! Without a note with entries about what we think of books, even just a 5/5 digit.... entries don't tell us.

I am curious to finally hear someone else's take on Shirley. My reviews are very expressive, about how some of the writing style grates on nerves. But I find her approach on folk witch craft original and pleasant.

message 50: by Emma (new)

Emma (evie1612) I just dont have time to sit and think about writing reviews :D

But, I did really enjoy this book. I love Ophelia and enjoyed reading how her "powers" are developing. I think im going to savour these books and not read them all at once - keep them to read as a treat to myself :0)
