Year end approaches and so does our hunt for our top favourite reads of the year. Let us know of your best reads and favourite authors of the year. You can list as many as you like. Were there any unexpected favourites? Or did you revisit some of your all-time favourites this year?

We'll take a stock on New Year's Eve to see which reads were the particular favourites of our readers in the year 2012.

Here is the list of books I enjoyed, rated 4 and 5 stars, in no particular order:

1. The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
2. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank (re-read)
3. A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin
4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling (re-read)
5. Solo by Rana Dasgupta
6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (an unexpected enjoyment, as I rarely read classics and even rarer that I end up liking them)
7. Killing Floor by Lee Child (that means yet another series that I'm going to find myself reading end-to-end)
8. Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell
9. The House I Loved by Tatiana de Rosnay
10. The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett
11. Rooftops of Tehran by Mahbod Seraji ( stumbled onto it through Goodreads recommendations, and absolutely loved it!)
12. Empress Orchid by Anchee Min
13. A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin
14. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (re-read)
15. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
16. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling (re-read)
17. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
18. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling (re-read)
