Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments My name is Kate Baggott and I'm a Canadian writer who lives in Germany and socilizes in the UK. Really, it's not as confusing as it sounds, but life is never really simple.

My latest collection of short stories is called "Love from Planet Wine Cooler." I wrote the series over a few years and each of the pieces was published in an antholody or in a journal before I put the collection together and published it for Kindle.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-From-Pla...

Love from Planet Wine Cooler is about being young and finding out about love, work and the other things that matter in adult life. For my generation, that was all about sex, music and the Internet.

I'd have to classify this book as literary or "alternative" chick lit, but that is not all I write. I'm working on a series called "Finnegan & His Sisters" right now. It's about Finnegan who is 17 and figuring out who he is. One of the stories, Finnegan & Grandfather Cheng, recently won the America's Next Author contest and you can read it for free here http://www.ebookmall.com/ebook/Americ...

I think winning the contest just *might* open some doors for me, but I've been in this game long enough to know it doesn't get easier. I write about the issues I deal with as a writer and a person in my new Goodreads blog http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Weyhey Kate!

I'm a Canadian who is living in Baku. My guy is welsh so we do a lot of socialising in the UK, I suppose.

Especially in here. This place is infested with funny accents!

Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 36808 comments I'm half english and half german and I have an Irish accent from living in Ireland all my life! This seems to confuse everyone for siome reason...

message 6: by Kate (new)

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments That would confuse me Gingerlily! Actually, it seems normal for people born one generation later than you! My kids are half-Canadian, half-Bulgarian and living in Germany.

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments Note to self: Come Dine with Me is an awesome show, but do not go on it to promote your self-published novel. The guy who wrote "The Day Princess Diana Didn't Die" came across really badly.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments I've had to give up on watching Come Dine with Me.

I find it toe-curlingly and teeth-clenchingly embarrassing to watch.

Shame as I really enjoy learning new recipes.

I am starting to feel the same way. Lately they've had lots of really, really bad cooks on and I hate all the celebrity episodes. The kids and I are really into Jamie Oliver these days and he's really inspired them to try new things and enjoy new tastes. I know I'm late to jump on his bandwagon, but he's such a cool dad and it helps get the kids in the kitchen with mummy...because it's lonely in there without them.

Oh yeah, today all the drama with the America's Next Author prize money ended. The Managing Director came over for lunch and gave me my prize money in cash. The picture has a good view of my kitchen. http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...

How funny is your accent? Do you say "fink" instead of "think"?

What part of Germany does your family come from Cyberlily?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 36808 comments What part of Germany does your family come from Cyberlily?

My mum grew up in Westphalia - a small village called Seppenrade, but they are all scattered around the country now.

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments Thanks for finding this thread for me Patti! I couldn't find it when I used the search function on my browser.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Actually it's Kath who deserves your thanks. :)

There's a search box over on the right. You can just pop your name in there. That's why we insist on author names in the thread title.

Probably a good idea for you to book mark your thread, though. Then you can pop in and share your news whenever you like with no hassle.

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments I spent the morning re-visiting an article I wrote for a site in the UK in 2005. It's about the economics of eBooks and I wrote an update for my Goodreads blog. It is a wild, wild weekend so far. http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments Oh, I also have a new story coming out on September 1st. Those of you interested in the impact of digital culture on all of us will like this. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Oh. That does look interesting.

Social media is mostly a distraction from the creation of literature, but it does make for some pretty prose and concise poetry. of course, I'm just guessing about the poetry.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Poetry always leaves me guessing.

This is the best bit of that site, in my opinion.

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments That is great! I wish I had time to engage in exchanging emails with spammers, but I don't have the finely tuned sense of humour required. These people have so much fun.

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments Oh, I forgot, I also work as a technology journalist and Singing the Digital Blues, a collection of my columns has become pretty obsolete. Still, if any of you are internet culture junkies, I can send you a Kindle-friendly file for free. Just in-box me your email address.
