Hello everyone,

January is coming, so as for our next book club. Nominate your books here, just make sure that the book is available on kindle and paperbook . If you're nominating a book which is a part of a series then it would be better if the book can be read also as a standalone, or at least it doesn't end in a cliffhanger. Try looking for books with good potential to get here lots of 5 stars, and hopefully we'll have alive and kicking thread.

My nominations:

The Gone-Away World - written by the same author of Angelmaker, which was nominated here before.

Heroes Die - A blend of fantasy and sci-fi. It's a part of a trilogy, but it considered as a standalone.

Nexus - very new sci-fi thriller , and it looks like a very promising book.I'm nominating a book which was released only a week ago just because I heard highly on it (and it doesn't end in a cliffhanger :) ).

I had some more books in mind, but I wasn't sure if they don't end in a cliffhanger (Daemon, Hard Magic), or standalones which I was wondering if they had a good enough potential for this "5 stars" book-club (The Troupe,Sharps).

More books ?

message 5: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin | 42 comments We could go with some classics:

Asimov's The Gods Themselves or The End of Eternity.

Or perhaps two books from my reading list: More Than Human by Sturgeon or The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein. Eventually, I would also like to read some more Kim Stanley Robinson, like, Galileo's Dream.

I think I'd be interested in trying Heroes Die. I've heard good things about it and I even have a copy on my shelf already but I've just never gotten around to it.

Here are my suggestions:

- The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks (it's the first in a trilogy but all the books are available)
- Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
- The Dragon's Path by Daniel Abraham ( I think I might have suggested this one before)

message 7: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin | 42 comments I'd read the Ishiguro.

The way of shadows sounds good to me, anyways, I'm planning to read it soon.

I had started it a while ago but it was a little darker than what I was in the mood for so I never got too far in. But after reading The Black Prism I've been meaning to go back and give The Way of Shadows another try.

Have you read the Blinding Knife yet?

message 11: by Simcha (new)

Simcha Lazarus (sclazarus) | 258 comments Mod
No, not yet. I'm waiting for the price on TBD to go down before I order it. But I'm definitely looking forward to it because The Black Prism was awesome.

It looks like we have enough books :)
Esther, which books exactly are you nominating?

Simcha Lazarus (sclazarus) | 258 comments Mod
If we read Never Let Me Go we can follow up with a discussion of the movie, which I've been wanting to see.

I'm not sure whether it's a sci-fi/fantasy book or not. Anyways, by skimming some reviews it looks like a controversial book.

I think we should better start the poll. (Esther, you're nominating the two Asimov books?)

Mods - don't forger to set the poll.

So which books should go on the poll?

The six books which we nominated, and what Esther choose to nominate (I think it's the two Asimov books, but she hasn't replied back yet).

Esther (eshchory) | 218 comments Mod
It was Genia who recommended the Asimovs.
Sorry I took so long to get back on this.

The poll is now up so if you haven't yet done so, please vote on the book you would like to read for January's book discussion.

You're right, my mistake.

At the moment,it looks like we're going to do The End of Eternity or Never Let Me Go.

Which book are we reading? I'll put it on the book shelf.

message 24: by Nimrod (new)

Nimrod Daniel (nimroddaniel) | 314 comments Mod
Never Let Me Go and The End of eternity are even with 3 votes and the results are stagnant, so we'll have to go for a second round. No need for a new poll, those who gave their vote to other book than the two mentioned will have to change their vote.

Simcha Lazarus (sclazarus) | 258 comments Mod
So it looks like The End of Eternity is the winner. I better see about getting myself a copy then.

message 26: by Nimrod (new)

Nimrod Daniel (nimroddaniel) | 314 comments Mod
Indeed.

I already have the book, but I'll join the reading towards mid Feb.

The results are stagnant, so we have a winner - The End of Eternity.
