Harold | 1 comments A then out-of-print book, read by the teacher, fascinated a 6th grade class in St. Louis in 1971. It featured children friendships, rivalries, and activities at a small school: making of their own ball for games, throwing water from the dipper on a girls leather boots as she wore them - as a prank to shrink them on her feet, and a race between the protagonist and another to the steamboat river landing as the climax.
