Sethra Lavode, dark
enchantress, you've left your bone
in my shoe again.

Wee MacDuff, Lord of
the Scottish West Highlands, your
ghost still haunts my heart.

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments I say, "Munchie, Come!"
The clever pug holds out for
"Would you like a treat?"

Loquacious Lad, or
Loki for short, god of wine
and song, now long gone.

wisest, kindest, most
wonderful, just two years old
poisoned in the yard.

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments Like a cuppa Joe
beige with swirls of white; a friend
to all who walked by

Someone called us once
thought he was lost, but he was
in front of our house

Joe went out one night
For an adventure or hunt
And never came back

Someone took him home
We tell ourselves, because he
was such a cool cat

I'm Spartacus! No,
I'm Spartacus! But my friends
all call me Sparky.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Sleeping peacefully
She stretches her legs and paws
Phew! A smelly fart

message 8: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments once a spunky pug
inflamation in his brain
crept in from nowhere

I see his seizure
he's scared, his mouth is foaming
death has brought him peace

he's now in heaven
with all the Greenies he wants
lots of stuffed toys, too

Robbie, I'm so sorry for your sudden loss. Thank you for expressing it so eloquently here. You've made me think of all the dogs in my life and the trials they faced. My dog (Loki) loved greenies and squeaky stuffed toys too btw - great touch.

----

Didn't really know
you, Munchkin. From what I hear,
you were a good pet.

(eulogy stolen from Garden State. It's one of my favorite recent movies and a very touching scene involving the burial of a beloved pet.)

----

Fritzy was around
before I was born. He too
was lost to the woods.

----

Nicky was a chow
with a big black tongue and a
taste for kids' fingers.

----

Stout-hearted Sethra
fractured her femur at two
months - just a puppy.

One flight to Fairbanks,
One grand, five steel pegs later,
and she's good as new.

----

a vet assistant's
job is never done. always
more poop to be scooped.

----

volunteering at
the animal shelter helped
soothe my heart a bit.

so many helpless
critters just looking for love
in all the wrong spots.

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments many thanks, Heather
Garden State was a cool flick
pets loved, lost, honored

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments kids' special stuffies
how can a dog resist them
when they're just his size?

message 12: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments LOL, Sarah
I just read your great Haiku
about a pet's fart

(We call them "toots" in our family--still works)

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) I say toots as well
But farts sounds much funnier
But stinks equally

message 14: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments You meant "Butt stinks equally" right?

message 15: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Bashore | 122 comments cute, tiny puppy
asleep in his warm sweater
hand-knit just for him

spunky, playful pup
the cat makes him curious
he wants a playmate

cat, soft and furry
won't play with the new puppy
but will eat his food

Jo (maelstrom) I hope you don't mind I posted one for all the pets I ever had. :o]

Sad, nameless goldfish
all met a similar fate
and tear swept farewell.

Oh! My tin-foil barbs
A short trip from A-to-D
“A-OK” to “Dead”

Zebra fish Harry
no goldfish-like end for him
The catfish dined well

Curly, white Mitzi
Constant childhood friend, at times
my one and only

Ode to Magpie, Max
Had my brother not fed you
that small ball-bearing...

Dear sweet Penny-girl
We thought we had rescued you
but your past shadowed

My Burnt Marshmallow
My highland Scottish boy-oh
Sleep sweet my Buddy

Our “Goofy Newfie”
Vinny ran when Buddy died
I dream him happy

We called him “Ikers”
He cared for Mom when all the
boys had grown and gone

I was his pack-mate
Golden Mojo knew my heart
and took parts with him

Our sunny Maya
slept with her nose in our shoes
What a ditzy girl

Han “Solo”, scoundrel
of our obscure galaxy
How you make me laugh

What is in a name
A trickster is black Loki
He only fakes dumb

Contrary (that-contrarian-librarian) Licker, clawer fierce

Soft green eyes watching

A cat's a cat,
a dog's a dog,
and man's a beast.

and so is your effing cat
if it shits here

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)
