Kevin | 284 comments Unsurprisingly, that 20th century list isn't very surprising. :p All the usual suspects are there, and most, for the ones I have read anyway, deservingly so. If only for their influence on the genre.

The only one I've never heard of before is number 20 Bulgakov, Mikhail : The Master and Margarita.

The 21st century is an interesting list in that it actually doesn't contain a lot of authors I thought it would. Meaning that all the current hyped, big series authors are missing, which IMO is a good thing. I'm interested to see if in a decade that still will be the case when their books have had the opportunity to stand the test of time. It would be interesting to see an updated version of this list every decade or so.

The exceptions here are of course The Name of the Wind and The Lies of Locke Lamora. I haven't read the latter, but the former I suspect will always rate high on a best of the 21 century list even a century from now. That book was a classic the moment it came out.

Scifi and Fantasy Book Club recently read and discussed The Master and Margarita. You might want to check out their discussion.

Louise | 66 comments Hmm I have The Lies of Locke Lamora in my TBR pile somewhere, should read it soon :-)

I'm always on the prowl for new, exciting books/authors - would be nice with a "Top 100 hidden gems" of fantasy :-)

Kevin, is there any reason you re-posted Carol's post with no comments?

I'll delete this as it seems to be a mistake or mis-post.
