Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
A Goodreads Choice 2012 Winner

Marriage can be a real killer.

One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Courtney (cwest1011) I read this a few months ago...I think I'll re-read/skim through to get ready for discussions. It won't be difficult, as I couldn't put it down the first time.

I'm glad the group is up and running again!

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) I'm halfway through my current read and this one will be up next for me.

For those of you who have read the book already, feel free to discuss here. Reactions to the characters, the writing, the plot....anything and everything (please do conceal spoilers though--looks like this book probably has a lot of them)! Happy reading!

Angie (eigna008) I'm ready to talk about the first almost half of the book. I haven't been this into a book in a really long time! I'm surprised since I'm not usually into most bestsellers...

What do you think of Nick? Did you like him in the beginning? Are you sympathetic to him? Do you like his attitude?

Dana (danadew18nj) | 21 comments I was curious when the discussionwould begin! I'm about 2/3 the way through... listening to my book. I really didnt like Nick AT ALL and my feelings towards him keep getting confirmed. I can't believe how well written this book is- it's very exciting!

I liked both Nick and Amy at first but I just keep getting surprised by both of them! I don't know who to believe! I always think I have it figured out, but then another twist is thrown in! I just started Part 2 and I just can't believe that I'd been so tricked!

I don't want post in the spoiler thread, because I don't want to know the ending yet. But DH and I stayed in last night so I picked the book back up while he watched football.

I really like the writing of the book. It's really descriptive while toeing the line of being too flowery.

I like both characters so far, but I'm skeptical about nick. The way he admits he's lying to the cops has me wondering how much of what he's saying is true.
