Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1412 comments Hi everyone! I'm Sara Boyd. I was born in Argentina and some years ago I left sunny Buenos Aires and moved to Newcastle, where I did a translation MA at Newcastle University.
I started writing stories out of boredom at school but published my first novel, 'Nothing Else Matters' only recently. My first fully finished story was a screenplay that got lost, so I became backup-obsessed. The lost screenplay is now being re-developed into a novel.
I live with my family under the blistering Northumberland sun and we adopted a cat that bites.
Coming soon: Deceptive Comfort, a historical thriller short story exploring the devastating impact of superstition.

Busy day/days ahead! My brother's family came over for a few days so we have a 'full house'.  Children are enjoying, though.  Merry Christmas to everyone!

This from YOU, Peppermint P.?!?!?!?

Sara, Peppermint P. has incinerated EVERY single curtain in all the author threads. Be kind to yourself an relieve her of all matches, candles and lighters on the way in.

Also it might be best to make sure she has access no more than one bit of wood at a time!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Ahem.

I'm holding my zippo, you know.

Oh, damn these euphemisms!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 36808 comments Patti needs a minder. preferable a hunky one that can take her mind off setting fire to things!

message 19: by Sara (last edited Jan 18, 2013 09:19AM) (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1412 comments Everything here is fire resistant. Plus I kind of just moved in so no curtains yet!
Would a minion do instead of a hunky minder?

Only if we give her a LOT of vodka first.

message 21: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1412 comments Vodka first it is then...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 36808 comments Polish honey vodka always goes down well.

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1412 comments Here are two possible covers for a short story, historical thriller.

Here's the blurb (that can be modified as well if needed, still testing it :-()

In an ancient village ruled by the tyrannical Murtagh family, the pregnant Wynter is blessed - or cursed - with a rational mind.
In this place, a terrible fate awaits any child born on the 29th of February. And, as the leap year approaches, Wynter’s time draws near.
A tale of one woman’s battle against superstition.

Cover B:

I welcome any feedback or advice.
Thanks!

I like the plain text on B but not the flames at the bottom of the picture. I know what you're trying to get across but to me it doesn't look quite right. Just my opinion though, I might be completely wrong! (Wouldn't be the first time!!!)

message 44: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1412 comments This is going to be difficult :-( Some people have said that the one without the flames is powerful enough, others that they like the fire... Maybe I'll try a third one without the fire and simpler font...

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1412 comments Sorry, here are other options, blending feedback

Kath Middleton | 25063 comments D. It looks legible in the thumbnail size.

message 47: by Adam (last edited Apr 24, 2013 03:51PM) (new)

Adam (adammannan) | 133 comments I prefer image B with text D. The flames add a further degree of interest by reinforcing the threat in the blurb. Whilst the title text in D is more easily legible in a small icon.

Congratulations on your book, Sara. I hope it does really well.

Amongst all the ebooks. I find my attention lingers on those that have a bit of text on them. Such as an enticer line from a reviewer, or a hook line about the plot or type of writing.

message 48: by Adam (new)

Adam (adammannan) | 133 comments Sorry, I'm tired and no authority on these matters, but I hope that helps a bit.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments I like D as well. Nice clear text. I find the flames too disturbing an image. Perhaps it's a woman thing.
Your author name is disappearing into the image, though. Perhaps a slightly larger font for that?
