Stephen (havan) | 333 comments In her lifetime, Isabella MacDonald Alden was usually published under the pseudonym Pansy, and occasionally under the name Mrs. G.R. Alden.

There are books out there with covers bearing one or the other of the names and a few with both.

We have http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
and
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
and
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
and
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Each has a number of books with each having one or more that bears that variety of name first.

I'm willing to sort these out but what IS the preferred name in this case?

Stephen (havan) | 333 comments The Library of Congress has entries under both Pansy and Isabella MacDonald Alden as far as I can tell.

Cait (tigercait) | 5005 comments I've merged Isabella Alden into Isabella MacDonald Alden. Otherwise it all looks correct as it is, author-profile-wise.

but what IS the preferred name in this case?

The general rule is: Edit each edition of a book to the primary authorship of the name under which book was first published, so that all editions of a book can be combined. (Do this by editing each edition; don't change the name on the author profile.) Then any editions published under one of her other two names can have that name as a secondary author.

In this case it looks like Abigail's done a lot of that work already, so I don't think there's much left to do except the occasional check to clean up any new editions.
