It seems like the older a man is the younger he likes his women to be.

Robb Bridson I don't think this is inherently true.
The older I get the more young adult women look like girls to me. I've always tended to be attracted to women near my own age.
I guess I'm not old yet...

I would figure when this happens, it's socialization.
Men are trained to see younger-looking women as trophies, and maybe as some men get older, they desire more signs of success.
I could buy biology if perhaps the phenomenon was that at a certain age, men stop being attracted to women their own age-- but then it wouldn't make sense for them to pick even younger women as opposed to just-young-enough-to-be-fertile.

Tanjlisa Marie (tanjlisamarie) | 234 comments From my experience (I am a younger woman who dates older men), the men I've dated liked me because I wasn't bitter and I wasn't sagging. Now, this is not inclusive since there are some older women out there who keep themselves in shape. This has just been my opinion from my small viewpoint of the world.

I always assumed it was just easier for them to impress younger girls as opposed to someone who is older. I'm 27, some guys my age are still into the early 19,20,21 year old types... why? Because if they are unsuccessful at 27,28,29 it does not seem unsuccessful to the younger girls.

I would love to hear more male responses here though...

Robb Bridson I do also worry that there is a troubling cultural blur between "cute" and "sexy."
These words should not be so related, since cute is pretty much defined biologically as child-like. A lot of young women I see as "cute" but not necessarily "sexy." Granted, women maintain a certain level of cuteness up to a certain age, possibly as an evolutionary advantage-- cute attributes send a signal to mammals to show mercy and be protective; it's why we don't smother or abandon babies most of the time.

But there's way too much porn and quasi-porn these days that focuses on child-like features-- "barely legal", girls with pigtails and stuffed animals. I find it disturbing.
And we use the words interchangeably... like when women refer to a dress as both "cute" and "slutty."

Granted, I think trophyism came first, but I think this trend has potential to lead to some more confusing messes over time.

It depends on the woman, but a lot of older women are out of shape. They also are less gullible and more aggressive.

Not to be cruel, but a woman with a beer gut is the biggest turnoff there is.
You know I'm right.

Robb Bridson A beergut is far more attractive than a beard.

I hope we are still talking about women here...

If so, then there are some hispanic women who can get away with wearing a mustache - Frida Kahlo, comes to mind, for instance. I also work with a young Hispanic girl with a mustache who is unbelievaly sexy...
But yeah, a beard would be quite a different story.

Sara (principessa_sara) | 20 comments I think that's because men feel younger dating younger women. And also, because younger women (some of them anyway) may look more attractive.
Nowadays though there's also many older women dating much younger men. And I think the reasons are basically the same as for men.

Ed Wagemann (edwagemann) | 992 comments I'd add that it is easier for younger women to fall in love. Older women are more experienced, they aren't going to fall so easily. And men as they get older like things to be easy...

Carolina Morales (carriemorales) | 3 comments Younger men tend to be more shallow and prone to narcisistic issues. Older men (+45) usually treat women more carefully, respectfully and demand less ego massage. I'm all for men of a certain age.
