Aru (kuolla) Anything set in the late 1800s or early 1900s in Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos? Especially if it explores the relationship with the area in some way. Stories set in later years would be fine too, if it explores the relationship with the French empire and South East Asia.

Jennifer (jennepstein) Kim Fay's The Map of Lost Memories is a great read for 1920's Indochina and Cambodia. Layered, beautifully-written, with a very surprising plotline (the main character is a kind of female Indiana Jones, but much more nuanced). I loved it!
