I'm going to give her a "yeah"... she definitely wouldn't have been the first person to come to mind, but I think she's an amazing actress and will be able to pull it off. Also, I just saw on Charlaine Harris' web site that Anna is going blond for the role :)True Blood is the only reason that I'm keeping HBO right now, so I hope it's good!
Wow... I didn't know about this. I think I'm going to have to get HBO now.
Even with the Blonde hair i have to say neh. I'll just wait until True Blood premieres b/f i change my mind.
I say yea. I like Anna and her roles are difference so I think she will be able to do Sookie justice
I can only picture her as Rogue right now so I can't give an opinion until I see the first episode.
I saw the first episode of True Blood and she actually does good as Sookie! She looked totally the part.
I like her, so I hope she does Sookie justice. I'm so looking forward to this show! I'm a huge Alan Ball fan as is. Add these books to the mix, I really don't see how it could go wrong.
I'm a little iffy on the subject. I think Anna can definitely pull off the Southern charm and I like her work so far so I'm willing to give it a shot. Gotta get HBO first though!
I know there are some pics out of Anna with the guy who plays Bill. She has blond hair. I have to say at first I wan't crazy over her being pic b/c I thought there is now way she'll look the part. I'm of the camp that is on the fence. I can't fully picture her as Sookie, but I'll wait 'till I see her in action to decide.
I am on the same fence, Katie. We have to wait and see. I am frankly more worried about who will play Bill and Eric.
I love Anna Paquin and I’m sure she’ll do a good job, but I just don’t see her as a Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie is more of the girl next door and I just don’t see that in Anna.
I didn't see her as Sookie either but the scenes I've seen so far are making her look pretty cute.
Where are you guys seeing the scenes. I can't wait to have a preview.
I haven't seen any scenes/previews with the characters. Just the ones promoting true blood like it's a beer commercial or something lol.

Thanks Angie. I liked what I saw I guess. I think this might work. Bill looks good but he is not as "dark" as I imagined and I guess I am not sure about Sookie. She is perky enough I hope the accents are not Louisiana FAKE like so many productions. This is supposed to be further up into North Louisiana however so there is more leadway for the traditonal "southern accent" Thanks you guys for keeping the old lady up with the chicks!

Now that I have watched it a few times, I think Anna is sparky enough to go the distance if they go more than one season and get into her fairy heritage that she could pull that off too. She did win an Oscar so her skills should be up to it. :)Can't wait to see the other characters, now I guess I have to read the series over. I have NEVER done that! I have already read Definately Dead twice, never did that either. I am a librarian and there is so much to read but this series is great. I feel like I did when Dark Shadows came on at 3:30 every day and I would run home from the bus stop in time to hear the theme music!

I don't think she looks very good blonde ... but that could be because I'm just used to seeing her with brown hair.
Do the vampire teeth look weird to anyone else?

Jess,The chain was spectacular! He isn't exactly what I pictured. In Dead until Dark he was 30ish when he "died." That actor didn't really look in his 30's, more like mid 20's. Still, they got the sideburns right, and Sookie's ponytail.
Angie, I agree, I’ve always imagined Bill’s character to be a lot “darker” as well. Sookie always seemed like the girl next door, and I really like Ana but she just doesn’t give off that vibe; she’s more exotic looking than hometown southern girl looking. I thought the fangs looked a little too cheesy as well. I can’t wait to see Eric’s character! Hopefully he’ll look more like the character should.
Agreed Jess. I guess that's the way it would look if it was burning into their skin. Really graphic but realistic to me!
That is so not the way I imagined Bill to look. That guy is HOT. He doesn't look old fashioned at all. I totally imagined Bill looking like the Count from Seasame Street. LOL

Brown hair or Reddish. The reddish is when she's playing Rogue in X-Men is the only way I can imagine her.
Angie, the teeth look stupid. They just flip up and flip down. That's kinda lame!
I read that Alan Ball didn't want to have the regular teeth that vampires have he wanted to do something different. Geeze! I don't know how well I will like the teeth!
Funny one. I did think older but he is as you say "hot" I could get used to him.

Lmao! The Count from Sesame Street? That’s hilarious; I can just imagine Bill counting things for Sookie lol. The guy is hot but his hair should be black and not brown and the cheesy fangs need to go.
Alan Ball's idea was pretty lame. He should have had them come out like they are suppose to. It just looks like you can flip them up or down like a visor to me.and Phoebebb, just for you "One, One kiss for Sookie, Two,Two kisses for Sookie! hahaha!"
I think she'll take on Sookie just fine. She looks great in that red flowered dress!

Hmm I'm still not sure about Paquin, I always thought Sookie to be a little curvier. I still have to see the episode. I haven't been looking at any of the clips. I want to take it all in when it premieres besides I still have to read the first book :)
My Sookie is hotter as well and basically looks like a Barbie but in REAL proportions but Anna works well to me.
