Good luck with your exam, Jen. Nothing wrong with taking a little reading sabbatical now and again.

And well done Nicola!

Thanks Lisa!

What's everyone got planned for the bank holiday weekend?

message 53: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) We're off on holiday with the children. Back down to Cornwall, for the whole week.

I saw, thank you! I used a mix-up of it on the masthead :D

Well done Jen and Paul. We've had family visiting this week/weekend so have been off out doing the touristy stuff, and eating/drinking for England. Haven't had time for reading (shock!) let alone checking stuff on here, back to it now :)

message 58: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Huge sigh of relief. I lost my phone earlier today. Someone found it, handed it in and I got it back. Really happy!!

message 59: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
That restores some of your faith in humanity Elizabeth

message 60: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Absolutely :)

message 61: by Belinda (new)

Belinda (belindaj) That must have been a huge relief, Elizabeth. I lost my phone a couple of months ago (I think it dropped out of my bag when I was getting out of the car), but unfortunately whoever found it made off with it. I now have theft insurance... bolting the stable door and all that!

message 62: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) It's my son's birthday party today. Two hours of four year olds screaming. Oh the joy!

message 63: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
Good luck with that!

message 64: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Well that went well. Back home having a cup of tea in the garden.

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Eek. Not driven to drink then? Cup of tea suggests your nerves are stil in one piece!! Well done!

message 66: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) I could have done with a glass of wine but didn't have any in the house :( and too exhausted to go to the supermarket! And he's just gone to bed. Hooray!!!!

message 67: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
No wine in the house! That almost as bad as having no books!

Went to the folk festival, and managed to pick up a dozen or so books from one of the stalls for £1.50! And my eldest got the last Cathy Cassidy that had been signed as well. She is very happy

message 68: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Mcgee | 209 comments We were also at the folk festival, I forgot it was on and cycled into Wimborne and wondered why the whole place had gone mad.

I've had endless appointments and visitors since the baby was born. On Thursday my husband goes back to work and the oldest to nursery so I can finally bed in with newborn and Kindle: bliss.

To keep the visits to a minimum, make them change the nappies! Hope little one is doing ok.

Phew, Jen, big relief I suspect. Time to relax a touch??

message 78: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Congratulations Lisa.

Elizabeth I have that joy to look forward to next weekend but with 5 year olds, I have somehow managed to clash with the village carnival (we don't live in it) and so hoping we get 10.

message 79: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) We kept my son's party fairly small. Twelve children. We did a whole class party for my daughter last year. Nightmare!!! Never again.

message 80: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
Wait til they get to 6 and 7 years old. I have no idea where they get that much energy from!

message 81: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) I can vouch for that too!

message 82: by Nicola (new)

Nicola (nicola1) | 61 comments well done Jen, fingers crossed for your results

Thanks for all the good wishes. He is a very good daytime sleeper at present so I am getting on with reading and TV quite happily today.

Well done getting through your exam, Jen. Hope you get the result you want.

So is it ok to not invite the whole class to a bday party? My oldest goes to school in Sept so I need to know the etiquette, I think!

message 85: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) My son chose a handful of friends from pre-school to invite to his party, plus some of his friends from other places, totalling 10. We held that party at a soft play centre, so definitely could not afford a whole class party there.

My daughter, who is 7, invited 12 friends from school and other places she goes to, to a party at our house. Tiring for us, but it worked well. Last year we did a whole class party with two other parents whose children have birthdays close to my daughter's. It was hellish!

I think it's definitely ok to have a selection of friends. Most of the children in my daughter's class have done small parties since Reception year. There's only been one or two other whole class parties. And, as they get older the parties can get even smaller. We're thinking just a couple of friends and a trip to the cinema and pizza afterwards next year!

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
My daughter, who has turned 7, shared a bowling and pizza outing for a total of 8 children. It was absolutely great - very noisy, but all the stuff and nonsense happened somewhere other than my house and we had to do nothing other than get them there and home again!

message 90: by ch (new)

ch Hello, can anyone please tell me if my updates are included in the group feed? When I log on I don't see any of my activity, but perhaps this is because it's mine. Thank you

message 91: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) I don't think you do see your own posts. But if you want to do so then click on your profile and you should see them there.

message 92: by ch (last edited Jul 01, 2013 01:18PM) (new)

ch I see. however, how can I know that others in this group are seeing my updates? If anyone would post that they are or are not seeing my updates, I would appreciate it. I update rather frequently, recently.

message 93: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) As I understand it you only see people's updates when you are friends with them. Otherwise you could just post on the group threads and then everyone would be able to read them.

message 94: by ch (new)

ch I see the updates from others on the Homepage when I log on. I am not friends with anybody here on goodreads. However, I thought that the updates were from this group, but it seems that they are from the entire community.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not experienced with online interactive sites and sometimes can't figure it out!!

I'll send you a Friend Request and then you can see my updates! You can also read other people's reviews and updates by just following their reviews. You need to click on their profile and then just click follow review, or add as friend. We're a friendly bunch on here - ask a few of us to be your friends!

message 96: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Trying to decide what to read next Mo Hayder - Gone or World War Z any suggestions?

message 97: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) How about The War of The Worlds for our classics group read?!

message 98: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Er - that's what I'm reading Elizabeth.... Did you mean H. G. Wells' "War in the Air" maybe?

Or perhaps you just meant "How about?" as "Wow! Wow! Wow!"

message 99: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Was making a next read suggestion to Sam!

message 100: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Ooops sorry Elizabeth. Misread your tense as being future ("as a future choice for") rather than present ("which is/to contribute to")
