Beth I watched this yesterday. Not bad, as far as your mainstream rom-coms go. Hugh Grant has a few laugh-out-loud lines, the best being his description of a concert he did at a fat farm, which turned into a "dietetic Altamont" after he threw candy from the stage. Drew Barrymore is as cute as a bug, with a great bohemian-chic wardrobe. Fans of the band Fountains of Wayne will have a special interest in this movie, as the music was done by the band's Adam Schlesinger (who also wrote the song for That Thing You Do!.

Arctic This was surprisingly better than I thought it would be - not great but not too bad either. Hugh Grant makes a great 80's has-been pop star. Didn't know about Fountains of Wayne's involvement - nice.

I loved this movie!! I watched it while my hubby was deployed, so I cried a little bit, lol. The songs were pretty good too. I bought the soundtrack.

Beth A Ahh, the 80's. I saw a few of my old boyfriends in this film, but it was a nice, very funny way to spend a few hours. And yeah, Drew Barrymore's wardrobe makes me want to go out and buy a bunch of cool scarves...

Nick Jones (nickjones) | 7 comments I just saw it too. It's been playing a lot on HBO lately. I have to agree with Artic: Not great but not too bad either. Hugh Grant is a great actor and very hilarious. Although, I coulnd't help but think his character from Music&Lyrics was the same as in American Dreamz. I can't say that I've ever been a big fan of Drew Barrymore... the acting is so so. I enjoyed the film, but I'm glad I waited till it was on HBO to see it.

Sarah (songgirl7) I loved it. I even downloaded the soundtrack. I think Haley Bennett (the girl who played Cora) has a big career in front of her, especially as her music career is not going to be of the pop-princess variety.

Den.n38 | 4 comments This movie makes my heart warm everytime I watch it. Cause I've always loved music and I watched all videos about musical like school of rock. I've also bought the soundtrack which have all the songs from the movie. I like "pop goes my heart" espicially. That song makes me active and the action of Hugh grunt in that movie is totally like a musician. I also like drew berrymore cause she fits every chracter.

Paul Duncan (jpaulduncan) | 68 comments I'm a sucker for romatic-comedies and after watching this and "about a boy", I'm even more impressed with Hugh Grant as an actor; even impressed with his singing voice. And I've been in love with Drew Barrymore for as long as I can remember.

Highly recommend it!

Nicole | 13 comments This was a fun, light hearted movie. A type of movie that everyone needs to sit and watch every now and again.

Milani Sonqishe | 2 comments i have been in love with Hugh Grant since as far back as i can remember, so i had to watch this. I enjoyed it(i love romcoms - it's that "happy ending" factor that does it for me). I'm not such a big fan of Drew Barrymore's but, like Beth, i loved her wardrobe.

Malina (allyall) I was pleasantly surprised at how fun & feel good this movie is. A fun remember the 80's juxtapositioned against today. Makes me think of the Wedding Singer, though they aren't really plot related. The pop-up video spoof at the end was fun. All of the actors seemed to be having a good time, and I did too. :) Loved the music.

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel i love this movie. i wasn't sure hugh grant and drew barrymore would have any chemistry, but they were fantastic together. and cora makes me laugh until i start to cry. love it!

Ashley Ladd (ashleyladd) | 13 comments This was cute and I enjoyed it. It was refreshing to see Hugh Grant be sweet again, and not a total arse.

Ashley Ladd (ashleyladd) | 13 comments Really? I thought Grant's character in this movie was a lot nicer than he was in American Dreamz.
