Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments Same bland cover, every country. If I hadn't read the blurb I would have no idea what this book is about.

I think the elephant in the room is that I wouldn't even give this book a second glance if it hadn't been for Potter. But, Potter exists. I read every book, some aloud with my wife Michelle, and enjoyed every one of them.

It wasn't until years later that I became bothered by the lack of message in the books. What I mean is this: 7 massive books, aimed at and popular with children, and the end result is: good wins, evil loses, and sometimes the ends justify the means. Are the books popular because of this lack of a moral? I don't think so. The classics (Narnia, Lord of the Rings) skew slightly older, but both contain hidden depths.

Going into Vacancy my two thoughts are: how will Rowling's writing change when it is targeted towards an adult audience and what moral questions will drive this story (specifically as compared to H.P.)? Clearly I'm a bit snarky... I hope Rowling recaptures my attention and re-captivates me as she moves in this very different direction.

Suzie | 28 comments Who's Neil, and what did he do to rate the epigram of the first PP (Post Potter) Rowling book? We shall see.....

Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments @Suzie: Mr JK Rowling. Or Mr. Dr. JK Rowling. How he earned the dedication I cannot answer.

Michelle Finazzo | 281 comments The cover is fine in a 50's housewife kind of way (if it were a 60's kind of housewife, I would be very into it!). The color choice and cursive writing seem quite feminine to me.

GO NEIL!!! I bet you are an uber-rich dude.
