Melissa (mahart) This is a great challenge... I actually have so many books out from the library at one time that the books I actually own are pretty much window-dressing. Count me in!

Here's my tentative list of my first six books:

1. Love in the Time of Cholera
2. Mimus
3. The Patron Saint of Liars
4. Into Thin Air
5. Perdido Street Station
6. The Years of Rice and Salt

Melissa (mahart) Wow, I sucked at this challenge! Out of the 65ish books I've read so far this year, only four of them were books that I owned, and none of them were on this list. (Heavy library use in action, I guess, and the fact that I moved in June and spent a few months reading down my massive stash of borrowed books.) I plan to apply myself to this list with renewed vigor this summer, though.

In a side note, I no longer own Into Thin Air as I donated it to my school library. So I'm replacing that book with White Teeth, which I just finished.

Melissa (mahart) OK, this was just embarrassing. I honestly didn't read a single book on my original list, and cheated to squeeze in an alternate title only because it was a book club pick. NOT COOL! I'm restarting this challenge for 2009 with pretty much the same list of books, because, really, they all are books that I know I'll like, if not love, and I ALREADY OWN THEM. For Pete's sake, how hard can this be?

So, between January and June 2009, I will read:

1. Love in the Time of Cholera
2. Mimus
3. The Patron Saint of Liars
4. Graceling
5. Perdido Street Station
6. The Years of Rice and Salt

Huma | 9 comments Good Luck! Hope you are more successful this time.

Talking of school libraries, I miss mine so much! Thousands of books to read and we could borrow only 2 each week. I'll always dream about the books that were present in the library and about which I'll never even know about.

Melissa (mahart) Thanks for the encouragement! I'm a school librarian, so I live daily with the great temptation of my growing collection. There are always a million books that I want to borrow.
