Adornable I just wanted to put out there that this was a terrific, if brief, book. I really like his style of writing.

Joan I found this book hilarious!

Deborah I love every book I've read by McCall Smith. Try his other series as well.

Marianne I've spoken to people who didn't like this series at all. I loved it. I think you have to "get" the humour here. And once you do, you just can't stop laughing. I see there's a 4th book out this year, "unusual Uses for Olive Oil", it's on my wishlist

Toni McCall Smith is a good writer and often a funny one, but this series and the Portuguese Irregular Verbs series are his least delightful in my estimation—and I wanted to like them. The 44 Scotland Street and Isabel Dalhousie series are far superior in my humble imagination.

Pam I liked the book. It reminded my of John Irving's style. First, I was a bit bored. Once the humor clicked, it was a great read.
