With all the debate these days about legalizing gay marriage, is any type of marriage even relevant to today's world?

William Harlan (Raunwynn) of course marriage is still relevant.
when you are incapacitated, who do you want making decisions, your spouse or your parents?
a spouse is a partner, contractually obligated to assist you with life.
