Ed Wagemann (EdWagemann) | 985 comments POTUS Obama has set a goal for the US to have One Million Electric Cars on the road by 2015.
Is this goal attainable? Are electric cars a good idea or a bad idea?

Sarah Price | 31 comments It's a nice idea in theory. Perhaps this will allow us to wean ourselves off of the tit of the middle east. Maybe gas prices will get lower? There's also a self driven car that Google has as a prototype right now; it's solar powered. I'm all for ideas to stop the pollution and chaos that oil refineries and car usage causes!

Ed Wagemann (EdWagemann) | 985 comments I hope they come out with a solar powered mini-van sometime soon!

Not only is it attainable, it's already been done. Unfortunately, Big Oil just couldn't stand it. Check out this documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car?; if it doesn't make you furious, I'll be surprised.

Yes, that film was featured prominently in the link to the blog in the original message. Did you not read that link, Sharon?

We have not reached Obama's goal of one million electric cars on the road yet, but if he is re-elected I think there is still a good chance that it will happen.

One thing I would like to see is for a mandate that would make ALL of thousand and thousands of military and government vehicle be electric cars. Numerousinnovations have begun with the government, cell phones, the internet, computers, microwave ovens, etc and I think electric cars could catch on that way as well.

Yeah, that movie is old. Its already got a sequel.

Ed Wagemann (EdWagemann) | 985 comments Here's an idea: Besides making it mandatory that all government vehicles become electric, what if the government also gave tax breaks to Car Rental companies if they used a majority of electric cars.

Also, equip highway rest stops with easy accessable Electic car outlets.

Electric cars cost too much. The government needs to give us some kind of rebate or incentive to go out and buy them.

Ed Wagemann (EdWagemann) | 985 comments The Chevy Volt is sold for about $31,000, considering how much you will be saving in gas prices, that is pretty frickin reasonable. Here is a link to the Chevy Volt website:

The Nissan Leaf goes for about $27,000. Here is a link to its website:

Then there is my personal favorite, the Tesla Roadster:

Still that is more expensive than what I can afford.
And why is it that I never see any electric cars at Used Car dealerships? What happens to elelctric cars after the original owner is throug with them?
