[General] Introduce Yourself!
hey...a new member here.. it's fun knowing that there are friendly people in here.. without so much ado, i would like to introduce myself ( though i really have a hard time defining myself, because I'm inconsistently inconsistent- prang bagyo )
but one thing is damn sure about me- i love books because i love stories!! super!! it's kindda a way of freeing myself from the world of chaos..
it's good to be here..
well, i love sheldon's and grisham's.. but i first fell in love with Alex Garland.. he's the author of The beach.. i already watched the film and ..it's really true that it's a thousand better pag sa book...i think i read the book eight times or more..
i can really get crazy at all times..i can even read a novel in seven engrossing hours ( walang tayuan..) just can't simply put the book down..
i was in elementary when i first started reading books ( pocketbooks, ung mga romances..hehe) then i stumbled garland, it was a subversive book, really.. nilumaan tlga..and that was the beginning...
i love twilight ( parehas kme ni charles- by the way he's a dear friend of mine, we exchange books, he's the one who convinced me to update my account here..am thankful)
i don't like shopping..i'd rather devour my books, sleep, watch films and play with my dog.. yeah, my dog..he's nicolo... i love the story of Marley.. really sweet...
books for me are the best instruments to put oneself in another world, which the reality denies... i appreciate authors who really are genius that create stories for everyone...
it really is my pleasure to be here...
nice meeting you guys..
dear moderator..keep on rockin'.. you're cool...

Great intro Rhys! So, welcome to the FILIPINO GROUP!!
Though I hadn't read my Garland book, The Coma. BTW, did you know that he's also the one who penned 28 Days Later? Yeah I love the movie. Those zombies rocks! And another trivia from yours truly gathered that his novelThe Tesseract was set here in Manila? But the movie version was shot in Thailand.
Anyway nice knowing you Rhys... By the way, where do you and Charles study? And another fact I want to mention here so just others would know:
I'M NOT a Twilight fan... I just don't like it that is... and hadn't read that one also...
Well... I think that's all... And by the way... i don't just "love" you.... I "adore" you!!! hahahaha!!!
Welcome to the group and have fun!!! ^_^
My warm regards and happy reading!!
(Too mouthful for welcome message don't you think? Nahhh!!!)

Welcome Rhys!!!

Welcome Rhys!!!
@jzhunagev,how can you say you don't like something when you haven't even tried reading?
Baka naman you find it "cheesy" lang.. hhehehe.. or too well, "commercialized"?
Hey Jzhun, do you have a copy of THE TESSERACT? I've been looking for it for ages. All I know is that it's available at Barnes & Noble. Wala namang B&B dito sa Pinas. Waaaaahhh!!!Welcome Rhys! I, too, am a fan of Alex Garland's The Beach (Haven't seen the movie, though). This is the reason why I've been looking for The Tesseract. I've read good reviews about it plus the fact that the setting is in the Philippines. It sure seems very interesting.

yeah i now that garland wrote The Tesseract and was set in Manila, it is why i wanna read that novel.. cmon, give your Garland a try.. he's a genius, really.. he's good in describing settings and all...
and i'm hoping that i could convince you to read twilight..hahaha!
why not give Twilight a try? :)
charles and i study in the same school,University of Nueva Caceres...
you adore me?? oh why, thank you... :)

really, oh dear that's so sweet...and oh, i've been trying to look for garland's books, but hell, di ko alam kung bket wala nyan khit sa SM NBS dito!! Biruin mu, first novel p lng ni garland ung The Beach, then boom,! motion picture na! sana nsa Las Piñas ako ngaun..astig SM SOUTHMALL dun eh..
i read few reviews bout The Tesseract and now, i'm dying to have a copy...
and the movie The beach, dissapointing... malayong malayo sa book..
Ohhh you will really love me....Uhhhmmm I mean this group... hehehehe!!!
University of Nueva Caceres? Is that somewhere in Metro Manila? I saw a copy of THE TESSERACT back then at NBS... during the time that I wasn't that truly acquainted with his work... I just knew him when I bought my copy of Coma that I've begun researching about his works... The Beach movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio right?
Anyway, I read the 3 chaps of Twilight in ebook... and talk about the most lame technique to start a young-adult novel, yeah! All that complaining about this, about that... Bella complaining about this or that. Well I don't want to waste my limited precious reading time hearing complaints from a whiny gurl...
So kiss that one goodbye or the whole series... Maybe I'll read Twilight when it became passe... Like now I'm planning to read some of Stephen King's novels since no one's reading him right now... I sometimes go with the old timers...
oh no, dear...somewhere in never neverland yan..haha... here in Naga City..Nsa Luzon p yan... sayang, sana binili mu na ung THe Tesseract.. :)
somehow, i got your point bout this Twilight thing..
it's another story of love, pinagkaiba nga lng, vampires ang mga characters...
well, di ko pa rin ipagpapalit sina sheldon, grisham, butler and garland...( for now) ..
Rhys wrote: "oh no, dear...somewhere in never neverland yan..haha... here in Naga City..Nsa Luzon p yan... sayang, sana binili mu na ung THe Tesseract.. :)

It's just the hype I tell and we Filipinos do love to be "in"... laging nasa "uso" kahit kabalbalan lang naman ang usong yun...
At least the authors that you've mention are at least recognized for spinning such fine yarns of plot... unlike you-know-what where the spinning's going nowhere... hanapan lang sila ng hanapan at pag nahgkita nagkakaiwasan... vampires areeee sooo ssshhyyyyy...
Rhys wrote: "haha..precisely...but i'm open for more new authors na di ko kilala..
great guy! :)"
Though I hadn't read his books yet, but I do have them so no worries, why don't you try Markus Zusak? Everybody or every review that I read here at Goodreads are raving mad about how great his books are...
That's my current dilemma right now....
Who to read first? King or Zusak? Hhhhmmmm....
hahaha..but the fat problem is, walang ganyan dito sa NBS..hell.. i dunno if that piece of place is really Nbs..huhu..
Well, one of the perks of living in Manila is you can able to visit all the branches of Booksale and NBS... now don't you worry, you'll still be able to read it... just wait... for now just settle on the books that you have...

just soo sad, di ko sila matatapos tapos..
thank you...
fun to be here..
kayo naman, mashado pessi.. if there's a will there's a way and I'm sure our wonderful moderator will figure out a way so we can have an idea what the "good books" are...I, too prefer to try various authors and one book, sometimes, make or break my reading them.. I also have tons of sequels of Sheldon.. pati nga ung ibang young adult na vampires, balak ko na patusin.. pero that's all they are right now.. pila.. lol..
Meron din mga bargain bookstores such as books for less and ung mga nakafeature sa center ng mall - I can't remember the company. Basta Mall lang ng mall, mall hopping and see where your feet takes you. I'm sure the magnetic field of bookstores will pull you through.. :p

Hi, my name's Purplycookie (guess I'm not into giving out my real name online). I'm an English teacher to Gr. 7 students. I looove reading; I simply can't deal w/o reading a few pages of a book (please, not text books) every day. I'm a HUGE Neil Gaiman fan (got 9 books signed by him already) and growing up I read mostly horror/supernatural books by Christopher Pike and horror/mythic fiction by Anne Rice. I've loved vampires since highschool (which was a very loong time ago) and can't abide by the newest vamp craze which involves vamps being too poseur. The genres I tend to gravitate to are fantasy, children's, young adult (YA), mythic fiction, fairy tale fantasy, but I've been through a lot of phases from non fiction to detective mystery to horror.
oh hi teacher Purplycookie. have fun here. :D lovelots everyone :3 it was quite a long time :3 new comment~ yipee~ ^_^
Thanks Christine, for the warm welcome :) Christine wrote: "oh hi teacher Purplycookie. have fun here. :D lovelots everyone :3 it was quite a long time :3 new comment~ yipee~ ^_^"

Puwede ba rito sumali? Nakita ko parang pang-bagets ito eh. Kaso, 45 y/o na ako pero mahilig akong magbasa so we have something in common. Last year, I was able to finish all the Twilight books in 1 month. So, nakaka-relate ako kay Charles. Last month, ginawa kong pang-halloween ang Interview with the Vampire ni Anne Rice. Tumitingin din ako sa All-TIME 100 BEST NOVELS, PULITZER, MAN BOOKER, NATINAL AWARD at OPRAH SELECTION. Favorite kong bisitahin ang Megamall outlet nila dahil sa Mega ako nagla-lunch madalas at ang Waltermart Munoz dahil doon ako naggro-grocery (I'm married and a father of a 14 y/o who is also here in Goodreads).
Hope you accept me here.
Like Angeli, I love Jodi Picoult books, but I don't want to read them one after the other...Nakaka-umay din. I've actually read all of her books except Salem Falls (naghahanap pa ko ng bargain copY). Pinakagusto ko ang fiction, pero gusto ko din ng mga inspirational books....Favorite authors - Picoult, John Grisham, Ken Follett, Dean Koontz, Luanne Rice, Nicholas Sparks,Khaled Hosseini, Lisa See, etc. Nagustuhan ko din ang Harry Potter series at Twilight....For both HP and Twilight, it took me a while to decide to read them - reason being they were marketed as children's or teen's books. But once I started, I got hooked.
