But I do agree that some are really junkie.
Dare I mention Children of the Corn is one of 'em.

Hi everyone! I'm Leia. I'm quite new here at Goodreads thus, I'm getting used to the site. Glad to know that there is a Pinoy group here.Anyway, that's it. Hope everyone's doing well. Cheers! :D

Children of the Corn was a COMEDY! LOL ^_^
But I like IT and MISERY ---sick ass Katie Bates! woooh! I also like THINNER...
I guess only a few books work in movies... LOTR was awesome... HP 1 and 2 were great...
Hahaha.
I went through a Stephen King phase, his old books were the best - Different Seasons and The Stand. After reading The Stand, na paranoid ako. Di ako humihinga pag may bumahing! I read his new book, Full Dark, No Stars - walang dating. I miss the old Stephen King.
Don't know where to put this but, did you hear? John Irving was in Ilocos Norte since Christmas. He left yesterday. Inquirer has the article.

liked it.
Veronica, yes my brother told me about the article. Matagal ko nang mini-mean na basahin ang "The World According to Garp" which according to many is his masterpiece.HAZEL: basta sulat ka lang ng sulat sa threads.
ALL: I love Stephen King movies: Christine, Children of the Corn, Shawshank Redemption, The Shining (Oscar nominated for Best Picture), etc. Wala syang kapantay.
The other stars were Brooke Shields and Josh Groban. So, love ko na si Paolo Coelho. I will read na his Piedra book.
K.D., You might want to read A Prayer for Owen Meany instead. Kasama yun sa 1001 Books to Read Before You Die. Para 2 birds with one stone... I've read some of his books and listened to Owen Meany on audio. He's an acquired taste but still I probably would've been starstruck in his presence. :-)Jzhunagev, you're welcome to my copy but it's an ebook. Since lumabo yun mata ko I've been using a reader kasi may enlarged fonts siya. Hahaha.
Rollie, I'm glad you liked the book, you're part of the majority. I just found it too dark and depressing for my taste (kaya nga full dark...) I still believe he's one of the best writers alive and has kept me on the edge of my seat for many a night. But not with this one.
This one is from Zahir naman:‘Marie, let’s suppose that two firemen go into a forest to put out a small fire. Afterwards, when they emerge and go over to a stream, the face of one is all smeared with black, while the other man’s face is completely clean. My question is this: which of the two will wash his face?
‘That’s a silly question. The one with the dirty face of course.’
‘No, the one with the dirty face will look at the other man and assume that he looks like him. And, vice versa, the man with the clean face will see his colleague covered in grime and say to himself: I must be dirty too. I’d better have a wash.’
‘What are you trying to say?’
‘I’m saying that, during the time I spent in the hospital, I came to realize that I was always looking for myself in the women I loved. I looked at their lovely, clean faces and saw myself reflected in them. They, on the other hand, looked at me and saw the dirt on my face and, however intelligent or self-confident they were, they ended up seeing themselves reflected in me thinking that they were worse than they were. Please, don’t let that happen to you.’
Kailangan ba talagang ipropromote natin si Coelho?

He's the total embodiment of what he teach in his books.
He's willing donate millions just to help those that have been affected by Ondoy. What's shameful was that the donation/banking process of the Red Cross was a bit cranky at that time (since all us had been in a state of shock and panic) hence it took a while for his donation to come but eventually his money came through and hopefully had helped others in need that time.
And here stops my Coelho rant.

I don't get him (and his books) kasi. :)
Most of the Coelho books that I read are okay naman. But since I have 3-4 other books in my tbr, go ulit ako sa Paulo Coelho month.

Hey that is so cool. I read the Inq article and they said that he was writing nine hours a day and didn't do the sight seeing tours. I wonder what Filipino-inspired mentions will come out of his next book!
Went through a John Irving phase, too (largely influenced by my hubby who is John Irving crazy). Medyo mabigat lang siyang basahin.
I've been away for a while, so let me try to catch up... welcome Maureen, Elise, Kass, Christine, Hazel & Leia!

I think Clare writes better in CA because of the time setting. It's more elegant and more sophisticated than the setting in MI...and of course, the ERA :) I like her prose better in CA :)
But the thing with CA is that WILL's love story is kindda patterned with MI..in a way..(oops, did i just spoil things for you?) if i did, don't worry, it's totally different also.. but i guess, you get to compare WILL with JACE's character.. (if you ask me, WILL is hotter coz of the british accent--)
FINAL ANSWER: I Can't say that the other one is better-- coz i love both books too much..LOL I guess I get to be more specific when I read the sequel to CA...coz after all, i've read 3 MI's and only one ID. :D
Hi,I am Haresh Daswani, an Indian born and raised in the Philippines.
Essentially, I too can speak Filipino.
I do wish to meet fellow book readers and writers and share comments and reviews on other books.
I have also recently published a book, except it was done through Lulu.com. I am asking Powerbooks if they can take care of making it available locally. It would be possible if we can get 50 interested buyers to confirm intent to purchase.
Hope to hear from you guys soon :)
Thanks,
Hash
Btw, I do hope this will not be taken as an advertisement, but I would like to invite everyone to Powerbooks' poetry night at Powerbooks Greenbelt on February 12. They have more details on that.
that's nice :) hope there's another one I can join! If you like quiz nights I usually attend the one by 121 on tuesday.
Hi Haresh, welcome to GR-Filipinos! Usually we have meet-ups but they are not book discussion, in some point yes but more on talking something we want to. Haha! Wish I can read your books soon!
