[General] Introduce Yourself!
(From a 300 member strong egroup, we're also down to just the core group. :S But we're rebuilding. :D )
@KD sure, i'll try to find a copy of the Screwtape Letters. I'll let you know.@RE that's too bad... at least you know who are really into it. numbers are overrated anyway
Hehe. Well, my fear is that we've lost those who are indeed "into it", but AREN'T "into" the idea of actively participating. :S There are those kasi who mostly just read the discussions but will send maybe one insightful e-mail every six months. Hay nako. But wow, I'm glad to find so many Lewis readers on GR-Filipinos! :D
K.D. wrote: "KEN: I have SCREWTAPE LETTERS in my tbr for many years already. We can read it together and share our views. If yes, tell me when you think you will have the time to read it. We can be reading budd..."...nyek...
that line was meant for comedic purpose only and nothing else. :D
i was trying to be lively. (my new year's reso) LELS
yeniway, happy nyu nyir folks! :D
Happy New Year sa lahat!!..@KD looking forward po ako sa next meet up na sinabi nyo..
@Kryss uu nga pareho tayong newbies dito.. :)
Hi, you can call me Ronnie (yup, I'm female). I've been reading since I was knee-high and am 51 now. Judging from the discussions, I'm probably "the ancient one" in this group. :-)My reading tends to be phaseal running a crazy gamut from Kellerman to Kafka. Right now, I'm in my nonfiction phase reading autobiographies and historical novels. I'm also a sucker for anything written in the Queen's English.
One question, do audiobooks count here? I've been doing audio for the past 2 years since my eyesight has gone downhill. Quite challenging though but just as satisfying. I got a reader for Christmas so I can go back to reading but I still do audio sometimes. Just nice to have choices.
Lastly, I want to share 3 New Year's resolutions. One, I resolve to read at least 52 books this year. Probably quite puny compared with the rest of you but hey, I'm not a lady of leisure yet. Two, I resolve to read 5 books written by Filipinos from here. Three in English and two in Filipino. Any suggestions? Pwedeng YA. :-)
Lastly, I'd like to write an honest-to-goodness book review. You know, structured and all. I've never done it before but I'd like to try.
That's it. Looking forward to some fun discussions. Happy New Year!
Hi Veronica, welcome to The Filipino Group. Uou are definitely not ancient. I hope you will become active in this group. I am 46 going 47 next year and we have members in their 50s but they are afraid they would feel OP during meetups. So, if you will be joining they might change their minds ha ha.I read primarily the books included in 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die and 501 Must Read Books. The latter has books in History, Memoirs, Biographies, Travel, Classic, etc. So, I probably read or will be reading those books that you like. We can be reading buddies!
Audiobooks count. When you add your book, select the audiobook version. I occasionally go for audiobooks too especially if they are not too hard to follow or understand.
52 books? What is the reason for the number? Filipino books? Go to the poll we had last year. The nominated 10 books were suggested by our members who are the acknowledged experts on Filipino literature.
Welcome again, Veronika and hope to see your books, reviews and comments in 2011 and beyond!
Whoa. Someone just told me the link is broken. In case anyone's interested, the CS Lewis Society of the Philippines mailing list is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cslewis... :D You don't need to be a BIG fan to be there. :D (Hehe. Okay, enough of me plugging now. :D)
Hi Ronnie! :D I'm a recent join-er too, so joining the welcome wagon feels a bit strange... but WELCOME TO GR-FILIPINOS! :D
Thanks Kwesi, K.D. and RE for the warm welcome. K.D., you were asking why 52 books. Well, I figured one for every week of 2011 but I'm off to a bad start because I've chosen to read Ken Follett's 3 new books which are really, really long.I've seen the lists too. I'm a little wary of lists because I've always felt that for every book put in, there's another good book left out. Anyway, I'm game to be a reading buddy. I don't think I've read even 1% of the list but it's good reference material. I know I'm going to get some flak for this, but during one of my ventures to the dark side, I downloaded the ebooks for these 1001. Don't know if it's complete and I haven't had a chance to look at them. I'm afraid to get sidetracked from Follett if I see something interesting. A major flaw of mine. :-)
I'm going to look at the polls next. I hope I don't need to buy an Tagalog-English dictionary. Hahaha. Thanks for the tip!
One last thing, I'm not sure this has been done before but I hope you will include Fahrenheit 451 in your book discussions. It's a book anthem of mine, kung baga sa music, theme song ko. :-)
And a second Wow! Thanks to Kryss, Joyzi, Rollie, Po and jzhunagev (I figured out a way to remember the spelling of your name). Thanks too to RE for the thumbs up and hey Kryss, please call me Ronnie, just that. All my friends do. :-)Thanks for making me feel welcome, I promise to pay it forward!
Veronica wrote: "And a second Wow! Thanks to Kryss, Joyzi, Rollie, Po and jzhunagev (I figured out a way to remember the spelling of your name)."Thanks for such a careful consideration. You pretty well know that I hate it when someone spells my name incorrectly.
Ahhh! The ole's copy and paste do surely work wonders! :)
Hi! Im clai! Im new here and i happen to come across goodreads because I was looking for great new books to read! :) It's great to know that Filipinos are collaborating, talking and showing interest in reading books and other written literatures kasi nowadays its hard to meet fellow booklovers even in my school! Im really glad we have this group.. :)
Well..about me..Im a college student who loves Paulo Coelho's works and Gabriel Garcia Marquez's! They are simply magnificent! Although during the holidays I read Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games trilogy along with The Maze Runner by James Dashner and The Mortal Instruments series (City of Ashes, City of Bones, City of Glass) by Cassandra Clare. I found them really really exciting! :) I love the classics and I dream of having my own library! ♥ although as of now, I'd have to settle for my ebooks which are a great relief for me..I still get to read without spending too much on books..and ooh! ooh! ooh! I also read Jostein Gaardner! Lois Lowry! Nicholas Sparks..Mitch Albom..Dan Brown and the like..
Im also interested in Photography? and the Arts! Im a frustrated singer, violinist and painter..haha..I hope to learn a LOT from you guys and to make friends as well! :)
P.S. I still don't know how GR works..haha..and i find you all amazing for getting to read a LOT! :)

Hehe. Also a big CS Lewis fan here. Founded the Philippine Order of Narnians in July 2003, but because our site got hacked this year, we're starting anew as the CS Lewis Society of the Philippines. :D http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cslewisphi...
(hehe. Instant plugging. :D)
