[General] Introduce Yourself!
thanks for the welcome guys! @sapphire: I remember the Leon story clearly because we discussed it again in college - in even more detail! :p it appears it goes unsaid that Maria is pregnant and Baldo is in love with her - or something like that.. Read the story and let me know if you figured that out at your first reading. I never did.
of course, i like it. sulat ka pa ha. im promoting your writings. may bago na akong advocacy. popularization of bisaya writings.

Hey everyone!Super new here in Goodreads. Anyway, I am Danielle, a first year B.S. Psy student at the Ateneo de Manila University, yet unlike many Ateneo students, I am simple person who likes simple stuff (see my profile if you want to know those stuff). I joined this site because one day, I was searching for Haruki Murakami quotes, and then google led to this fantastic site. So you can say that I uber uber love Haruki Murakami's books. I am a Haruki Murakami book hoarder. I love how he can write fiction based from seemingly simple things, such as a cat disappearing. Super unreal nang ibang works niya yet real at the same time. I also love and uber uber love Neil Gaiman. I especially like his Neverwhere novel. It inspired me to think beyond the surface of our world. Sobrang galing talaga. Murakami and Neil Gaiman, for me, are the ultimate literary gods! I also grew up with Harry Potter, LOTR, classics and stuff. Right now, I'm interested in reading Japanese crime fiction and Chinese fiction. Or anything that floats my boat. Btw, just a fun fact, I loved the movie Sweeney Todd and I've watched for like 9 times already.Haha.
Another fun fact, I took up psych to understand myself.
I hope to get to know more of you guys! And goodreads seems like a promising site. :)
oh and how can I forget?!I love anime and Japanese dramas. These two help keep me sane from the pressures of college life.
Marco wrote: "Welcome Danielle :) Hope you enjoy GoodReads and this community!"thanks marco for the welcome!
Hi Danielle! Welcome! You know what, I also found out about goodreads.com through google (google rules!) and I was also searching for Haruki Murakami quotes at that time. Seems like Murakami leads people to goodreads.. hehe...Have a good time here in goodreads!
To Vince: wow it's so weird that we found out about goodreads in the exact same way!hehe:)To Charles: I googled "The Temple of the Golden Pavilion" and it sounds interesting. Will try to read it when i have the time. Thanks for the recommendation.
Btw, what can i recommend? So far, I've just read Murakami books, this book by Akimitsu Takagi called "The Tattoo Murder Case", "Tales of the Otori" trilogy by Lian Hearn, and "The Concubines Tattoo" by Laura Joh Rowland. If you haven't read Murakami, start with Murakami(he's the best!) and start with "After Dark".:)

Haven't read Murakami myself but I've always had "The Wind Up Bird chronicle" (?) in my to-buy list. I'll probably switch it to "After Dark" nalang. Thanks for the tip :)
Thanks Maryse!Try "Kafka on the Shore" na rin for a start since yun yung first na binasa ko at super nahook ako.hehe.
I'm just wondering how you people can post replies right away. Does this conversation happen real time? Sorry, I'm not a techie. Hehe.
Try "Kafka on the Shore" na rin for a start since yun yung first na binasa ko at super nahook ako.hehe. welcome to goodreads danielle! i have kafka on the shore and the wind-up bird chronicle but i haven't read them yet. it's been sitting on my bedside table for a few weeks now; haven't had the time to tear out the plastic, let alone read it. but i will, very soon, start with kafka on the shore. thanks for the tip.=)
I'm a newbie here. ^^My (Internet) name is Darth. My real (Earth) name is Jeff. ^^
I'm a frustrated (failed?) artist/writer.

Memory Lapse. I'll update later. '
Anyway, it's nice to be part of this site! ^^
Welcome to you Darth. I too have memory lapses, which seems to happen all the time, the reason why I did not introduce myself in this thread. :)But anyway, I hope you will have great fun here.

Hi sa lahat!I've been reading some of your posts and I think I'm in good company here. :)
My name is Genesis, 20-something, psychology graduate from the Philippines. My family and I are currently living in Singapore but I'm a true-blue Pinoy at heart (as I will always be). Anyway, I'm an insane bibliophile, and it's good to know some Filipino booklovers as well!
For mystery I worship Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes, of course!), Dorothy Sayers, M.C. Beaton. Mostly British cozy mysteries. Sa romance naman, Judith McNaught, Sandra Brown (yung romance novels lang), Julie Garwood, Mary Balogh, Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, Jayne Ann Krentz.. still discovering new ones. Historical romance novels.
Some fiction books that I love are Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote, Tell Me Your Dreams by Sidney Sheldon, Murakami's The Elephant Vanishes, Odyssey by Homer and Watchmen by Alan Moore and David Gibbons.
The Merchant of Venice ang favorite kong Shakespeare play. Naadik rin ako minsan sa Harry Potter. For non-fiction I mostly read psychology books, like Oliver Sacks. At syempre, Philippine literature. Noli & El Fili, Bob Ong books, short stories by Jose Garcia Villa, Nick Joaquin.
Looking forward to discuss books with you guys!
Kudos to the moderators. Keep it up!
Welcome to the group Genesis!!! If you love mystery and romance I would like to recommend to you The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón; it have a good mix of both genres you love...You should also read the Seven Habits by Stephen Covey... one of the greates self-help/psychology I had ever read...
Anyway have fun in this group and please join our book club discussion...

jzhunagev, I've actually started reading "The Shadow of the Wind" a long time ago(for some reason, the book is popular with college students. I borrowed it from my brother's shelf who borrowed it from his college friend). I like how it starts, but it's just too thick I doubt I'll finish it anytime soon.
@Marys: sigurado ko magkakasundo kami ng pinsan mo. hehehe. gano kahaba yung shadow of the wind/ilang pages?kung maganda yung story ok lang naman siguro yung length ng book.
I guarantee all of you the book's length is worth it when you read it--but a story's usually subjective, so I'm speaking for myself... The Shadow for just a week, and i have a 8 hour work, to boot... Compare that to the experience to slogging through the 800+ pages of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell which I read for about 2 months... but I managed to finish reading it... it's a crime for me to leave a book half-read no matter how boring it maybe... it all boils down discipline... the lesson here: it takes a good story to keep a reader reading through...
Yup, I agree with you jzhunagev. What's more, you don't even mind the length of the book if the story is really (I mean REALLY) good. Hindi rin ako makamove-on sa next book if I don't finish the book I'm currently reading. Kaya nga minsan I really choose what I read, because I can't help but think a bad book is time wasted - the sad part is you already stuck it out until the very end. haha :D
(^_^)
kudos to the group!
